Salutations to all the believers across the world upon the blessed and holy month of Ramadan.
The month in which the holy Quran was revealed, the month which is known as the month of Allah, the month of mercy, blessings, and forgiveness.
But according to the Messenger of Allah, the holy Prophet Muhammad (S), what are some of the things that we must remember in this holy month of Ramadan?
And what are some of the things that we should start in the holy month of Ramadan, but do them for forever?
And finally, how do we free ourselves in this holy month of Ramadan?
Sayyid Shahryar explains how you need to \'Free Yourself This Ramadan\' in this \'One Minute Wisdom\'.
And hey, remember, it\'s still not too late to \'Free Yourself This Ramadan\'.

[Clip] God, why do You take it to Yourself | Agha Ali Reza Panahian Dec.04 2019 Farsi Sub English
God, why do You take it to Yourself?
When we go to a doctor and he gives us a prescription for a very fatal disease, if we donât do what he says, we wonât constantly apologize to the doctor....
God, why do You take it to Yourself?
When we go to a doctor and he gives us a prescription for a very fatal disease, if we donât do what he says, we wonât constantly apologize to the doctor. If we apologize to him once, heâll say, âThis doesnât have anything to do with me.â Heâll certainly say this. He says, âYou donât need to apologize to me.â But, the Almighty God has brought Himself into the middle of human beingsâ lives.
I love you more than your mother does! God has created this world in an orderly manner. Look at the universe. In this world, which God has created orderly, He has given will, authority, and freedom to human beings. This human being makes mistakes and does misdeeds. Itâs strange that God has called this sinning. âGod, I have ruined myself, âI have harmed myself.â (Qurâan 28:16) I have bothered myself. Why do You take it to Yourself?â
A person has put his hand on a butcher block and cut his fingers with a cleaver. âWe have harmed ourselves. When we harm ourselves, why do You somehow take it to Yourself?â Why did the Almighty God make the schedule that He gave us with commands, in such a way that any misdeeds we do in this schedule, are against Godâs commands? God says, âIf you make these mistakes, you have disobeyed me. When you harm yourself, I get upset with you. The things that are in your favour, I order you to do.â God talks with insistence and fervour. He keeps taking people to Heaven or Hell (in the Qurâan)! His talks are totally promotional. âGod why do You do this?!â
He replies, âDonât you understand why Iâm upset? I love you more than your mother!â âGod, even if You donât command me, I still have to do these. Why do You involve Your commands in this?â Isnât this due to the severity of Godâs fondness towards His servants? What other philosophy could it have? What is Holy War (Jihad)? Defend yourself against the enemy. What is ethics? You should have a good behaviour. Itâs strange that if we donât do these, God calls them sins. âYou have sinned against My command!â âGod, why do You get upset when I beat myself?â Doesnât this show Godâs severe fondness towards us? For example, God forbid, is God a mean king that has said something in general and if you donât listen, Heâll get upset, rage and punish you severely! It is not like this at all. Why should God need this? Itâs only due to the severity of His affection. It doesnât have any other reason.

[Clip] When people hide themselves... | Ali Reza PanahianFarsi Sub English Dec.09 2019

What does âKafirâ mean? Kafir means a person who denies and hides himself. He understands something is right, but he says, âNo, no!â âWhy do you say no? Why do you act perversely with yourself? Why do you grapple with yourself?! Why do you lie to yourself?! Why donât you have mercy on yourself?â This is the meaning of Kafir (unbeliever). What are you covering? What are you concealing? Why do you hide?
Psychoanalysts have a very interesting and hard job. Do you know what one of the things they do to fix peopleâs spiritual problems is? For example, a person says, âI have such a problem. I am depressed, etc.â or any other such plight. A psychoanalyst listens to see what he thinks and says, âI have to find what his problem is.â So, he says, âFirst talk about your life.â He starts studying his past. In some cases, a psychoanalyst even says, âYou get upset from such a thing.â The person replies, âNo, I donât.â The psychoanalystâs difficulty starts from here! âHow should I prove that you get upset from such a thing? Your smile now shows that you are getting upset.â The person has a problem. The psychoanalyst must talk to this person in a way for him to say, âOk! Yes, I get upset!â He gets so upset that he might start crying! The psychoanalyst says, âDid you see? Are you better now? Donât you think you have this other problem too, and this one too that you have hidden?â Why do you hide yourself? Psychologically, an ill person is usually a person who is denying something in himself. They usually call this a psychological complex.
The Qurâan says the same thing about the unbelievers (Kafir), âThere is a sickness in their hearts.â (Qurâan 2:10) What kind of sickness does an unbeliever have? He has hidden something. He has hidden a truth. âHiding the truth is a sign of unbelief.â When a person hides the truth within himself, he is called a Kafir. A Kafir has hidden something in himself in the form of a complex and is sick. What is a sign of his illness? He is jealous. Recite the âChapter Kafirunâ from the Qurâan. âSay: \'O unbelievers! I do not worship what you worship, nor do you worship what I worship; nor will I worship what you have worshipedâŠââ (Qurâan 109:1-4) You go your own way and weâll go ours. Drop it and go! Strange! But such a person wonât drop it! âWhy donât you drop it?!â
The Qurâan also says, âDo you know why he doesnât leave you? He is jealous!â âWhy are you jealous? Donât you say weâre miserable? Donât you ridicule us? Let us go our own way!â The Qurâan is a very surprising psychology book. Itâs fantastic! It says, âThe unbelievers envy your devoutness. They like you to be Kafirs too.â You have chosen and we have chosen. Go your own way! No, he knows that you are fortunate. He knows that he is hiding a truth in himself. He knows that you are having fun. He wants to ruin your life to be like his own.
Havenât you, the mourners of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (âa), met people who envy that you go to religious meetings? Has it happened, or not? Answer loudly. When they see you, they nag. If you go to thousands of dance parties or such, they donât say anything! As soon as you go to a meeting for Imam Husayn (âa) they say, âImam Husayn doesnât need you to cry for him. Go do actions.â Eh! âWhat if I had gone to a bar?â âGo enjoy.â âTell me to go enjoy here too!â But in this case, he feels uncomfortable and somehow shows his jealousy. During the 13 day New Year holiday, as many people are killed (in car accidents) as in a war. As many are killed as in a war operation! No one says anything. But, if someone dies on the way to Karbala, they repeat many times, âEveryoneâs killed there, or you go for pilgrimage?! They kill our countrymen!â âYou are sick. You donât feel good!â Death happens anywhere. But, when it happens there, they ridicule it. Heâs sick.
Do you know why he has become sick? What is mental illness? A person has something, but he denies it. I want to say something strange. Someone has to sit this person down and tell him, âPoor person. You are in love with Husayn (âa). Donât deny yourself. Unfortunate person, come. You come too. You are in love with Husayn too. You donât feel good. Donât deny it my dear. Be calm. Ok, I donât want to try to convince you. Be calm. Maybe you will suddenly realize that you are in love with Husayn (âa) too.â When a person hides a truth within himself, he is called a Kafir (unbeliever).

Most of us do realize that our performances of âsalaatâ (prayers) and dua (supplications) are not of quality they should be. However, we do not make attempts to correct the situation. Though Shaitan does play an important role in diverting us from making serious attempts in this regard, we can hardly escape the responsibility of taking concrete steps to correct ourselves.
One of the strangest issues that confounds us and is somewhat unique to our community is the fact the most us âreciteâ our prayers and supplications rather than âprayâ or âsupplicateâ. There is probably no other community in the world, most of whose adherents do not understand what they say in their prayers, supplications or even while reading their holy book. But many in our community reach their ripe old ages diligently reciting their salaat, dua and the Holy Quâran without ever understanding a word of it! While there is no denying that there are sawaab (rewards) for mere recitation of these, it is astonishing that it never occurs to us that we should make some attempt to understand what we recite.
If we do make an attempt to understand what we recite surely the spiritual experience of prayer and supplication will be far more refreshing and uplifting.
Here are some tips to improve the quality of oneâs salaat (prayers) and dua (supplications) to bring about greater spiritual upliftment and increased rewards in this world and the Hereafter.
1.First and foremost know and realize that you are able to recite salaat and dua due to the supreme sacrifices of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and the Holy Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) who, to bring to us these Divine Blessings, have faced enormous trials and tribulations and with the exception of the Imam of Our Time (a.t.f.s.) were eventually martyred. Most notably, do remember the supreme sacrifice of the Greatest Martyr of Mankind, Imam Husain (a.s.) and his companions who faced the toughest trials, captivity and martyrdom, without which let alone this blessing of salaat, Islam itself would not have reached us.
2.Keep yourself free of mental and physical fatigue whilst praying. Keep your mind free of worldly worries, evil thoughts, and ideas.
3.Plan what verses/duas you are going to recite.
4.If you do not understand Arabic, learn the meaning of what you recite in your Prayer. Better still, start learning Arabic- it is the language the Almighty Allah (swt) has addressed us in through the Holy Quâran. The least we can do is try to understand what the Almighty Allah (swt) is telling us.
5.Remind yourself that engaging in prayers offers you an opportunity to release from the tension of the world. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) has said that âin prayer was placed the comfort of his eyesâ. Therefore cherish the opportunity to remove the burdens of the world from your shoulders.
6.Use your prayer to remain focused on your mission in life, which is to bring your entire being to serve only Allah (swt)
7.Use your prayer as a source of strength, inspiration and enthusiasm of your life and activities.
8.Fulfill all your personal needs before you commence your prayer, for e.g., thirst, hunger and calls of nature.
9.Do not procrastinate and do not let the time of salaat lapse without your having performed the obligatory salaat. Know that we pray because Allah (swt) is worthy of and deserves your worship and this is besides the fact that we can earn sawaab (reward) by praying and save ourselves from the azaab (punishment) of avoiding prayers.
10.Pray in pure physical state. Perform wudhu with attention, care and perfection. Although the whole earth is a Masjid or a place of worship, choose a place that is clean.
11.Pray in an environment free of noise and one where there is no distraction. If that is not possible try not allow your attention to be diverted from your prayers.
12.Adorn yourself with clean and respectable clothes.
13.Assess your mental readiness for prayers before its commencement, during the various postures, after each rakaat and ultimately at the end.
14.Pray with humility both in your mental state and in your physical manner. Realize that you are before the All-Powerful and humble your entire being before Him.
15.Pray with hope and awe.
16.Remind yourself continually that you are talking to the most important âOneâ in your life- your Creator and Sustainer. He is Omnipresent. You are before Him, facing Him and you are involved in a dialogue with Him.
17.Commence your prayer by seeking Allahâs help and protection from the influence of the cursed Shaitan.
18.Lower your gaze while praying and do not allow the physical environment to distract you.
19.On each occasion that you recite the sifat (attributes) of Allah (swt) in ruku and sajdah (prostration), consider how indebted you are and how grateful you should be to Allah (swt) and express your true emotions.
20.Utilize the occasion of sajdah to make additional dua to Allah (swt). The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said: âA servant is nearest to his Lord when he is in sajdah, so increase your supplication when in sajdahâ. There are many duas recommended by the Holy Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) for this purpose.
21.Pray as it is your last prayer. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) said: âWhen you stand up to pray, perform your prayer as if it were your last prayerâ.
22.After each salaat do ask Allah (swt) for fulfillment of your legitimate desires and wishes. Such a salaat earns the pleasure of Allah (swt). And of course, do not harbor desires and wishes that are not legitimate.
23.It is only an expression of gratitude that you send salutations to Imam Husain (a.s.), the other Martyrs of Karbala and those who suffered the following trials of captivity. Therefore, include and appropriate Ziayarat with your salaat and duas.

Description:

Talking Properly: Politeness or Honesty?
âPious people have superior virtues. Their words are proper.â [Imam Ali (as), The Muttaqin Sermon] At the top of the list of moral virtues, which Imam Ali (as) lists for pious people, are controlling oneâs tongue and speaking correctly.
âPious people have superior virtues. Their words are proper.â âTheir words are properâ tells us a few things. Being proper does not mean being honest. You can talk honestly and ruin a nation. You can talk honestly and ruin a person. Backbiting is saying something that is true. [One says,] âIâm saying the truth [about him].â You are wrong to say this truth! You shouldnât say all true things. You shouldnât talk about a personâs fault when he is absent. Donât say that. It is even said that when a person backbites you should defend the one who is absent. You shouldnât say all truths. Proper doesnât mean honesty. Talking properly is different from talking honestly.
Sometimes people talk honestly in order to relieve themselves, but they shouldnât. They tell others about their sufferings, but they shouldnât. People sometimes talk honestly and tell others about the good deeds they have done, and that is hypocrisy. People sometimes talk honestly and show their hatred toward others. I can tell you numerous examples of honest words that are not âproper.â
But I have to tell you one thing. Speaking the truth, in any area, reduces a personâs mental pressures. When you tell other peopleâs secrets, you release yourself. When you talk about your own pains, you release yourself. When you talk about your hatred, you release yourself.
Itâs interesting that some people say any truth and say, âMy conscience is at ease this way.â That is not their conscious. They have relieved themselves in a way that God didnât want. Releasing yourself like this ruins you and makes you cheap. Not all ways of finding ease are good. In the past, some psychologists used to say that if a personâs father has passed away and he has inherited money, since an obstacle has been removed from his life, why should he act like he is upset? He can easily go, have fun and say that heâs happy.
Such a society will gradually lose its modesty. Do you know what happens when there is no modesty? When there is no modesty and people relieve themselves by talking honestly, they become weak. When you control your honesty due to your modesty and other boundaries, you will feel a pressure. This pressure makes a person grow and strengthens him. For example, when one gets angry, he shouldnât curse. This brings a pressure. [One says,] âI honestly ask God to make you wretched! I wish you didnât exist on this earth!â You should have controlled this! The result of some kinds of honesty is weakness. This pressure makes a person grow. It strengthens him.
Should we push children to be honest or polite? Politeness. What is politeness? Itâs basically modesty. Politeness tells a person what he shouldnât say. Is politeness more valuable or honesty? If you donât attack me, Iâll say politeness. A child likes to say many things honestly. But you should tell him, âYou should observe these rules when you talk. This is politeness.â
âPious people have superior virtues. Their words are proper.â

Donât have self-confidence!
We have âself-confidenceâ in our terminology. But, there is no such thing as self-confidence in the religious texts. People tell us, âHave self-confidence.â What do they mean? They mean you should have spiritual power and strength, so that you can make decisions firmly and take action firmly. Stand by what you say. Donât be shaky. This is what they mean by self-confidence. But, in Islam, the Qurâan, and discussions about the traditions and religion there is no talk about self-confidence at all.
When we say self-confidence, do we mean spiritual power and strength? God says, âYes, having spiritual power and strength is a good thing. But, why do you want to gain it through self-confidence? This is very wrong.â We say, âSo how should we gain this spiritual power and strength?â God says, âBy trusting in Me! Why trust in yourself?!â
There is a wrong term, which people often use. Itâs self-confidence. It is very wrong. An ignorant person trusts in himself. I have all these weaknesses. As the Qurâan says, I am âunjust and ignorant.â (Qurâan 33:73) I am so ignorant. How can I trust in myself? âBut, youâll become unsteady.â âNo, not at all.â So if you donât have confidence in yourself, where have you gained this strength?â âI trusted in God.â
A child doesnât have self-confidence. He trusts in his parents. He is even calmer than we are. Ayatollah Bahjat used to say, âChildren are never worried about tomorrowâs food.â Because they say, âMom will provide it. Whatâre you saying? Dad will provide it.â He has no doubt that his parents will provide food. A child doesnât have self-confidence. That is why he strongly trusts in his parents. He is constantly connected to his parents and wonât let go of them.
Have you seen a child in a gathering sitting and playing next to his parents? The parents get up to go somewhere, and the child starts screaming, âDonât go. Sit down!â They say, âIâll come back.â âNo! If you go, I canât count on your coming back. I have to be with you.â Whoever hugs him, he wonât listen at all.
We should scream in the same way if we move away from God. How does a child depend on his parents and stay calm? Weâre supposed to trust in God in this same way and find peace. We want to cut our ties with God and stand on our own feet. God says, âOk, go ahead. Poor person, you are âunjust and ignorant.â Every moment you are unjust to yourself. You are acting ignorantly every moment.â
âWonât our self-confidence be ruined when you call us, âunjust and ignorant?â You say that we are so ignorant and unjust.â âYes, your self-confidence will be ruined. Are you supposed to have self-confidence?â âSir, if a person doesnât have self-confidence, heâll become unsteady and weak.â âCompensate your shakiness and weakness with God!â
There is a wrong term, which people often use. Itâs self-confidence. Itâs very wrong. A child doesnât have self-confidence. That is why he strongly trusts in his parents. This Du`a is taught by the Imam Sajjad (a) and is a clear indication of the loftiness of moral virtues expected of a believer. Islam believes in the elevation of the human beings, that a human is a great and dignified creation, far above the animal world. One of the signs of this dignity is the possession of noble and magnanimous qualities. In order to achieve this behavioral excellence, man needs to overcome his base and selfish attributes, and cultivate noble qualities.
In this Du`a the Imam (a) specifies these qualities and shows how we can try to inculcate them in ourselves. Taken as a lesson is Akhlaq, the Du`a is a wonderful program for those who wish to excel in good akhlaq.
The most complete in faith among the believers is he who has best manners
Holy Prophet (s)
Habituate yourself to magnanimity and choose for yourself the most excellent of all etiquettes, for virtuous behavior is a habit. Avoid the most low of all etiquettes, and struggle with yourself to avoid it, for evil is stubborn.

Friends, let this not come as a surprise to you. This is the reality we are living in where it is âestimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. Thatâs roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these causes each year. About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger related causes⊠Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.â
--HOW YOU CAN HELP --
Donât waste natural resources. Be thankful to God for His gifts and blessings. Be mindful of your responsibility toward other human beings. Think about what the Prophet (saws) would do. Have mercy and compassion toward all humankind. Next time you spend money on those unnecessary luxuries of your life, think for a moment about the plight of the poor and oppressed around the world. Be aware of the materialistic forces and the contradictions of the dominant economic systems that are at the roots of global inequality. Donât become a part of this system. Donât become a slave of consumerism and endless materialistic competition.
Understand that it is not enough to just keep yourself from engaging in consumerism. It's not always easy to protect yourself and your family against the multi-billion dollar industry of marketing. Join forces with other like-minded people. Strengthen your communities that can serve as a buffer against corporations. Engage in collective action. Transform people's consciousness and hyper-consumeristic lifestyles. Among other things, join a local organization that is working against subtle forms of oppression, like hunger, poverty, illiteracy, domestic violence, anorexia and bulimia, perfect body images, and endless materialistic competition. If there isnât any, start one today!
For ideas, you can look into doing online activism. Check out moveon.orgâs work. Some online organizations also invite web surfers to click on their sites regularly. They say every click earns them revenue to support their causes. The Hunger Site is an example. Some may also invite you to buy their T-shirts and other souvenirs. I guess, you can buy these items if you think they can help spread the word and encourage people to join a good cause. But, in general, more shopping and more consumption cannot be a solution to human suffering. Selling consumers to products through clicks or ads is exactly what we need to shun. Because that feeds into the same loop of consumerism. My suggestion: Donate directly! And, encourage others to do the same!
Lastly, remember the advice Imam Ali gave in his Last Will:
âMy advice to you is to be conscious of Allah and steadfast in your religion. Do not yearn for the world, and do not be seduced by it. Do not resent anything you have missed in it. Proclaim the truth; work for the next world. Oppose the oppressor and support the oppressed.â
Become a friend and supporter of oppressed people and an enemy of oppressors and all forms of oppression."
