Mansour Arbabsiar, an Iranian-American used car salesman, was arrested at New York\'s John F. Kennedy International Airport on September 29, 2011. He was charged with planning to assassinate Saudi Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir in a bomb attack on a restaurant in Washington. He signed a plea bargain offered to him by Preet Bharara, U-S Attorney for the Southern District of New York. After this one-sided out of court deal, which benefited the District Attorney, Arbabsiar was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison. He was represented by Sabrina Shroff, a federal public defender appointed by the court. Arbabsiar\'s family says that Shroff used unethical means to make her client sign the plea bargain.

he prospects of ending 12 years of pro-Taliban militancy through negotiations in Pakistan are dying down after a US drone attack killed Wali u Rehman Mehsud, the deputy chief of pro-Taliban militants controlling parts of the tribal region in the country\'s northwest.
In retaliation, the militants have said they will withdraw their earlier offer to hold talks with the incoming government of Muslim League- Nawaz Sharif. The pro-Taliban militants have slamed the government, in a reference to the country\'s military for conspiring to get their leader killed through a US drone strike.
Opposition parties are now mounting pressure on incoming Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to order Pakistan\'s Air Force, after taking the oath of office next week, to shoot down US assassination drones operating in the country\'s tribal areas. Sharif\'s party seeks to convene a meeting of other political parties to decide on a joint course of action on how to deal with Washington\'s continued violation of Pakistan\'s sovereignty.

Israeli officials have publicly declared that the Syrian government used Chemical weapons which was followed by statements made by US secretaries of state and defense who said that the assessment was that Sarin gas was indeed used.
Syrian officials said this comes after the gains made by the Syrian army, particularly in and near Al-Qusier on the outskirts of Homs.
Russia and Iran have both come out strongly against using this as a pretext for military action. Emphasis on how this shows how much Israel wants to get rid of Assad and how much it regards him as an enemy.
Will Obama be dragged into a confrontation by Israel and its allies like the NeoCons in Washington even if he will have to face Russia, China and Iran?
Or is it that the US shares the opinion that Assad must go and might assign Israel with the task of launching military action?
An emphasis as well on the differences between the Syrian case and the Iraqi case because back then it was Dick Cheney and co who were pushing for war and even fabricated intelligence for this purpose. Now in this case it is Israel pointing to weapons of mass destruction trying to push a hesitant Obama administration into war.
In this episode of the Middle East Today, we will discuss the Syrian crisis and ask: What the future holds for Syria?

The city of Detroit, Michigan made headlines last month when police reported that there were 13 people shot in 24 hours. But other cities in the US are also starting to see an increase in violent crime. The surge in violence comes as the FBI releases figures that indicate that the crimes are part of a nationwide trend. The FBI figures suggest the overall increase in violence is due to a surge in crimes committed in larger cities-- after six years of steady declines. Violent crimes include murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assaults. Nationally, those crime rates have edged up 1.2 percent year-over-year, according to the FBI\'s Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report. The largest increases happened in cities with populations of between 500,000 and one million people. This is where violent crime rose by 3.7 percent, including a 12.5 percent spike in murder rates.

The Supreme Court has come into action to expose the role of top officials of previous government of People Party for seeking the US military intervention and denuclearization of Pakistan, a nuclear state. The Court has ordered the newly elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to bring back from the US the fugitive Hussain Haqqani, the country\'s ex ambassador to Washington. Haqqani has been refusing to return home citing security concerns since last year when a Judicial Commission found him seeking the US military intervention in Pakistan after US marines carried out an operation to kill top Alqaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in northwest of country in 2011. Haqqani allegedly in league with President Asif Zardari was behind authorizing a memorandum seeking Pentagon\'s help to sack top Pakistani military officials. In return President Zardari would have allowed the direct US military operations to hunt down militants in the country.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says European countries will \"pay the price\" if they send weapons to foreign-backed militants in the Arab country. Assad also rejected US, British and French claims that Syrian forces had used chemical weapons against the foreign-backed militants fighting in the country.
Syria\'s deputy foreign minister, Faisal Muqdad, also criticized discussions by Western countries on arming Syria militants saying they are \"incitement to murder and unacceptable on a human and moral level.\"
The comments came after US President Barack Obama ordered his administration last week to provide militants in Syria with weapons, claiming that the Syrian government had crossed Washington\'s \"red line\" for using chemical weapons against the militants.

Almost 12 years on since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan, Britain\'s top military man here --- Nick Carte believes that the problem of Afghanistan is largely political. And the West could have solved this, if they had talked with the Taliban a decade ago. British Prime Minister David Cameron, however, thinks otherwise. Cameron also demanded a big role for his own government in the ongoing talks with the Taliban militants.

Egyptians accuse US of trying to destabilize country
As the June 30th wave of protests took over Egypt, so did anti-American sentiments. The opponents of ousted President Mohamed Morsi, who took to the streets, saw the Muslim Brotherhood\'s ruling as one backed by the American Government. As the anti-Morsi protests grew bigger, and the army announced that it was removing the president from his position, the carefully-worded American statements regarding the situation in Egypt sounded very cautious. Washington\'s move angered Egyptian protesters from both the anti- and pro-Morsi camps even further. Each camp blamed the U-S of backing the other.

Egyptian interim President Adly Mansour has sworn in the country\\\'s first government since the military ouster of former president, Mohamed Morsi, two weeks ago.

Nabil Fahmy, who served as Egypt\\\'s ambassador to Washington from 1999 to 2008, holds the post of foreign minister and Morsi\\\'s interior minister, Mohammed Ibrahim, retains his portfolio. There are three women ministers in the new cabinet, including Health Minister Maha el-Rabat.

Description:
Egyptian interim President Adly Mansour has sworn in the country\\\'s first government since the military ouster of former president, Mohamed Morsi, two weeks ago.
Liberal economist Hazem el-Beblawi took his oath before army-appointed interim president to head the interim cabinet as new prime minister.
In the interim government, Chief of the Armed Forces General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who led Morsi\\\'s removal from office, holds the post of first deputy prime minister while retaining his defense portfolio.
The Muslim Brotherhood, which had earlier dismissed the interim government\\\'s reconciliation offer as lies, refused to recognize the new cabinet and denounced it as \\\"illegitimate.\\\"
