The technique used in this commercial is helpful to make the point but it takes the violence out of context. Context is emphasized here not to justify violence but to understand the complexity of causes and find appropriate solutions in each case. Wish there were good videos online that cover the variety of social and individual causes of family violence. Socialization and culture are certainly responsible but also are poverty illiteracy militarization and war. Some scholars suggest that domestic violence should be understood in terms of power and control. A durable solution would have take all these factors into account. It would also have to consider more subtle forms of emotional and physical violence that males also face in their families. Of course the family violence prevention services and hotlines could also be abused by individuals in some families. But that alone cannot be the reason to shun these services. There may be some real cases requiring genuine help. I personally think that these services should not be the first recourse for any kind of family violence. Efforts should be put to resolve such matters within the family first involving elders and other concerned.

University of Alberta on January 22 2009. Chanting "peace, peace, non-violence, non-violence" is sometimes used to de-legitimize armed resistance as irrational and unjustifiably violent. It takes attention away from the whole history of Israeli atrocities by focusing too much on - and even blaming at times - the victims for responding with violence in defense. Same goes for the case of Lebanon. The "peace, peace" slogans at times neglect the fact that the international community has failed to deliver any positive results in the last sixty years.
I think the resistance in Palestine as well as Lebanon would also prefer non-violence over violence. The difference really is on the question of 'efficacy' of violent vs. non-violent tactics. The Iranian Revolution of 1979 was largely non-violent. Even scholars of non-violent movements acknowledge that fact.
The distinction between principle and tactic is important here. We would be arguing on a very different level if some peace activist believes in non-violence as a principle - that militant resistance is always wrong. (Even Gandhi made exceptions to that principle!)
But if it is a matter of tactic with non-violence as the preferred method, then the implication is that if legit resistance-s choose militant tactics in Palestine or Lebanon, their actions should not be looked down upon by peace activists. Also since it is a matter of tactic (not principle), tomorrow the resistance-s may very well decide to become non-violent, if they feel that time has changed and the international community is more responsive to non-violent tactics and can actually do something to address their grievances.

The UN chief is warning that violence is spreading in South Sudan as fighting between rival army factions continues unabated. Ban Ki-moon says he\'s deeply concerned about the situation in the country and that the crisis should be dealt with through dialog. Meanwhile, a UN official says at least 19 people are killed in fresh clashes in Bor, the capital of Jonglei state. The army now says it has lost control of the city. Tensions are also rising in other part of the country. South Sudan has been witnessing deadly violence after President Salva Kiir accused former vice president Riek Machar of trying to launch a coup. Machar who was sacked in July has denied the accusations. Based on U-N figures, up to 500 people have been killed and 800 others wounded since the violence broke out on Sunday.

Violence once again sweeps through Iraq, as SEVERAL soldiers were killed in pre-dawn attacks against their encampment guarding an oil pipeline in Northern Iraq.
The style of attack mirrored another incident which took place in recent days in the town of Tuz Kharmatu where 6 police officers were executed by militants. Many claim the recent wave of violence in Iraq is the worst the country has seen in years. Political analyst Hamze Mustapha says the situation can not be contained by the army alone. Courtesy hollylevin. Wish there were good videos online that cover the variety of social and individual causes of family violence. Gender socialization and culture are certainly responsible but so are poverty illiteracy militarization and war. Some scholars suggest that domestic violence should be understood in terms of power and control. A lasting solution would have take all these factors into account. It would also have to consider more subtle forms of emotional and physical violence that males also face in their families.

From the documentary - INSERT COIN - Part 5-Violence in Video Games - While playing violent video games may not always explain violence in real life they do increase the risk. Violent games may shape the script and attitudes of how to act and react in uncertain and violent situations. Violent games may also have a de-sentisizing effect. Social and cultural contexts matter a lot in terms of how these games affect children. Compare the American and Japanese experiences. Those living in vulnerable life conditions may be at a higher risk. However the level of violence and values given in some of the recent games like Grand Theft Auto should never be allowed in my opinion. One incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute. On average, 2 women a week are killed by a current or former male partner.
In this edition of the show we will explore why our Western culture allows this, and what is

A UN panel has urged Myanmar to stop Buddhist violence against Rohingya Muslims but the resolution has seen opposition from an unlikely source: The party of Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Chee.
In its resolution, the UN General Assembly\'s human rights committee has called on Myanmar to give the Rohingya minority equal access to citizenship. But the demand apparently didn\'t sit well with the West\'s democracy icon Suu Chee, whose party accused the UN of interfering in Myanmar\'s internal affairs. Buddhist violence against Rohingya which is said to have the state backing has become routine in Myanmar. It\'s left hundreds dead and sent another 240-thousand fleeing their homes. But Suu Chee has had little to say about Rohingya rights. And she even declined to meet with the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation delegation visiting Myanmar this week to look into the plight of Muslims.

Iraqi prime minister, Nuri al-Maliki has blamed QUOTE \"diabolical and treacherous\" Arab states for the recent surge of violence in Iraq.
Maliki says Iraq is a target for certain countries that support evil and terrorism. He warned that violence has started to expand and will ultimately reach the countries which are backing it. Maliki did not specify which countries support violence in Iraq. In the past, Iraqi authorities blamed Saudi Arabia and Qatar for fueling unrest in their country. Iraq has seen a surge in terrorist attacks over the past year. The army, in recent weeks, has been fighting militants from al-Qaeda-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in the western province of Anbar. On Sunday, it launched a major offensive against the militants in the provincial capital, Ramadi.

Violence in Modern Muslim History; Shia Fighters Against ISIS | Maulana Syed Muhammad Rizvi - English/Urdu

- Remembering the shuhadā’ of Iraq who protected the shrines of Ahlul Bayt and also remembering those who died in the Tehran air disaster flight to Kiev on their ziyarat trip to those shrines
- Discussing violence in Modern Muslim History
- Finding the roots causing this violence
- Muslims had theological disagreements since the early days, however they were confined to discussion, debate, and literature
- The Khawarij was the first group who used violence for their ideals
- They had rebelled against Imam ‘Ali (a). ‘Ali had warned them that as long as your opposition is in words, I will tolerate you but the day you take up arms against the ordinary Muslims and harm them, I will confront you militarily.
- Much later, this mentality re-emerged in form of Salafi-Wahhabi ideology which is advocated by Saudi Arabia. The kingdom is based on that ideology.
- When Saudis captured the holy cities in 1920s, they destroyed the shrines of the family and companions of the Prophet in Medina.
- The example of the Ṭālibān – trained by Americans and financed by Saudis, Qataris & Imaratis against the Soviet. When they took over Afghanistan, they did the same: destruction of religious symbols and killing of other Muslims, especially the Shi‘as.
- And more recently in the areas of Syria and Iraq briefly controlled by ISIS, we saw the same pattern: destroying the shrines of the prophets and the companions of the Prophet and beheading of non-Muslims and Muslims alike.
- The majority of Muslims who go for Hajj visit Medina to pay respects to the Prophet\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s grave and those of his family/companions
- Salafi-Wahhabis consider these signs of respect as worship, and exhibit extreme hatred for these acts and the people who perform them
- This is despite the fact that there are clear statements in Sunni and Wahhabis sources also that show that the Prophet and the first four Sunni caliphs as well as Mu‘āwiyah used to visit the graves of the shuhadā’ in Uḥud.
- The positive impact of the visitation to the shrines bothers the Salafis, and so that they try their best to destroy the shrines and to prevent the people from visiting the shrines.
- All these events have led to present day situations
- As a Shi‘a Muslim community appreciate anyone who protects our shrines, who arranges tour groups to facilitate the visitations, and also those make the effort to visit the shrines.
- We salute and pray for those fighters from the Mediterranean coast to Pakistan who gave their lives in protecting the shrine of Bibi Zaynab near Damascus by pushing back the extremist forces. If it wasn’t for them, the shrine of Bibi Zaynab would have be destroyed.
- We salute and pray for those who gave their lives in fighting against the ISIS in Iraq. If it had not been for the courage and sacrifice of the Muslim fighters, ISIS had full intention of destroying the shrine in Samarra, in Kazimayn, in Karbala and in Najaf.
- We pray for Allãh’s special blessings upon those travellers who lost their lives in the recent air disaster outside Tehran. Among them were some who had gone for ziyārat of the shrines of our Imams
- Why do we pray for those who defended the shrines of Ahlul Bayt in Syria and Iraq?
- If it hadn’t been for their courage and sacrifice, the ISIS would have turned those shrine sites into the same sad situation as what we see today at the graveyard of Jannatul Baqī‘ in Medina, Saudi Arabia.
- Narrating the masaib of Bibi Fatima, the trauma of the event of the door falling on her, the capture and arrest of Ali, the speech of Fatima in the mosque saving Ali, her passing away, and the tumultuous events of her burial

The city of Detroit, Michigan made headlines last month when police reported that there were 13 people shot in 24 hours. But other cities in the US are also starting to see an increase in violent crime. The surge in violence comes as the FBI releases figures that indicate that the crimes are part of a nationwide trend. The FBI figures suggest the overall increase in violence is due to a surge in crimes committed in larger cities-- after six years of steady declines. Violent crimes include murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assaults. Nationally, those crime rates have edged up 1.2 percent year-over-year, according to the FBI\'s Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report. The largest increases happened in cities with populations of between 500,000 and one million people. This is where violent crime rose by 3.7 percent, including a 12.5 percent spike in murder rates.

Both Egypt\'s armed forces and al-Azhar, the highest Islamic authority in the country, have issued statements strongly warning against violence in the upcoming protests. General Abdul Fatah El Sissi, the Minister of Defense said that the moral responsibility of the armed forces is towards the people and thus it will intervene to prevent the country from slipping into violence that could lead to the disintegration of the state. On another front, al-Azhar scholars asserted to Press TV that the Islamic institution is not against any peaceful means of voicing concerns about the future of the country. The statements of the army come after increasing concerns as June 30th draws in the possibility of clashes between pro and anti Morsi protestors.

He mentioned: \"it is clear that the regime was behind it because Bahrainis first of all are not inclined towards violence. The violence is done by the regime who killed more than hundred and forty people while none of the Al Khalifa members has ever been injured in the past two hundred years.\"
