[03 Aug 2012] How can Muslims in West help Islamic Awakening - English
After too much expectation and uncertainty, finally the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi won the election with 51.7 percent of the votes against Ahmed Shafiq. This came after a close competition in the second round, while some rumours were suggesting that the old regimes remnant Ahmed Shafiq might win. Thousands of Muslim Brotherhood supporters filled the streets and squares in Cairo and other cities to celebrate this victory, a turning point in Egypt's history to move from dictatorship to.
While Morsi succeeds Hosni Mubarak, who was overthrown 16 months ago after a popular uprising, the military council has this month curbed the powers of the presidency. This means that the head of state will have to work closely with the army on a planned democratic constitution. This week's Islam and Life asks: Egypt changes: How can Muslims in the west help the Islamic Awakening?

Ahmed Maher, Ahmed Douma and Mohammed Adel were figureheads of the popular movement that ousted dictator Hosni Mubarak from power almost three years ago.
Now, the three activists have been sentenced to prison for three years on charges related to violating a prohibitive new protest law issued by the military-backed interim government that ousted president Mohamed Morsi. Egyptian security forces have in recent weeks extended their ongoing crackdown on the opposition movement of the Muslim Brotherhood to now include liberal political activists.

Dey 9th in the Iranian calendar or December 30th marks a very special day in the history of Iran\\\'s Islamic Revolution. On that day in 2009, an epic was created by the mass turnout of the nation to show their support for the Islamic establishment following post-election unrest in the country in that year.
On December 30, 2009, Iranians took to the streets in the millions to condemn what was called the \\\"seditious movement\\\" and to show anger for the unrest that took place after the June\\\'s presidential election especially on Ashura-- a day Shia Muslims mark the martyrdom anniversary of Prophet Muhammad\\\'s grandson, Imam Hussein (PBUH). After the presidential election, supporters of two of the defeated candidates made allegations of vote fraud. But such allegations were dismissed by the country\\\'s election officials. The guardian council -which based on Iran\\\'s constitution, supervises election- concluded there were no irregularities, dismissing election complaints. But the street protests -supported by foreign powers- continued on different occasions for more than six months. Then on December 30th, the nation poured to the streets to show support for the establishment. That day, the Iranians once more proved that if the Islamic establishment is threatened by the western-backed soft war, they are ready to sacrifice. They sent the message of unity to the entire world. The 2009 post-election unrest and the following incidents proved that the nation has enough insight and they firmly stand against foreign threats.

At least 19 people, mostly foreigners, are killed after a huge explosion and ensuing gunfire in a popular restaurant in the Afghan capital Kabul.
Several other people were also wounded in the attack. The dead include an I-M-F representative who was a Lebanese national and a Briton. The U-N says three of its staff is also among the dead. The head of Syria\'s \'Popular Front for change and liberation\' says that peace talks on Syria in Geneva are doomed for a stalemate unless a delegation representing all Syrian internal opposition groups is present.
During a press conference in Moscow, Kadri Jamil said that details for such a delegation are being discussed and that it must be formed in time for the third round of talks in Geneva. The second round of talks of Geneva 2 ended last week without a breakthrough result. Kadri Jamil says that at the moment the opposition is represented unfairly in Geneva. He says that members of internal opposition have been left out of the talks so far.

Press TV\\\'s Facebook page has around 1.3 million likes. It is regarded as one of the fastest-growing Facebook pages among international news channels. The social network has cited its Community Standards for the temporary suspension. However, Press TV\\\'s multimedia team found no credible reasons why its page should be blocked. While the channel cannot post on Facebook until 04:30 AM GMT Tuesday, it could still get likes and comments by its viewers.
