[27 July 2012] International Muslim charity organizations in today world - Islam And Life - English Muslims regard charitable giving as an important religious duty in their lives; many religious scholars place giving to charity alongside praying to God. This constitutes one of five Islam's pillars called zakah, an Arabic word for "purification". According to one estimate, citizens of Muslim countries give 10 percent of their income to charitable causes. However the Muslim charitable deeds lack a visible presence in the world. This could be mainly because Muslims are not allowed to advertise their charitable works. It is more virtues according to their belief to give charities anonymously. In recent years some large Muslim charities have entered the international arena. For example after the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 and the earthquake in Kashmir, 3 major Islamic charities in Britain offered 1.7 million pound of emergency relief. According to a Saudi official in the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the incident was reported by a local student, who saw the holy books on his way home in Al-Salama district of Taif. The service company that specializes in opening drainage inlets was then called, and dozens of copies of the Quran were retrieved. A photo that shows desecrated books has now gone viral on the internet and social media websites. This is not the first time the Holy Quran has been desecrated in Saudi Arabia. Earlier this year, the move by prison officials in Al-Haer province to insult the Holy Book led to protests in different parts of the Kingdom. The international criminal court of justice should issue arrest warrants for Tukur Buratai and the officers involved in this massacre and put on trial for war crimes. 4. The Nigerian army should focus its resources on fighting the Boko Haram terrorists rather than turning its guns on peaceful citizens it is obliged to protect. This same army that committed this shameless massacre against innocent civilians was unable to free hundreds of Nigerian school girls kidnapped openly by the Boko Haram terrorists. Every day that Buratai spends in office after the Zaria killings, is an affront to the people of Nigeria. The President of Nigeria must, as a matter of urgency, immediately relieve Buratai of his position as his conduct in this case has portrayed him as being totally unfit to occupy any public position of responsibility. Protesters demanded to see Sheikh Zakzaky in public to determine the extent of his injuries, to confirm that he is still alive and to be given the opportunity of state his side of the story.
