The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps. (IRGC) has held a military drill southeast of Iran\'s capital of Tehran. Around fifteen thousand military personnel of the IRGC and its paramilitary the Basij forces took part in the drills. The IRGC was founded after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and is a branch of Iran\'s military. On the sidelines of the military maneuvers deputy commander of the IRGC, Hossein Salami, referred to the latest war rhetoric by Israel. Brig. Gen. explained how the enemy tries to use political pressure to force economic sanctions against Iranians, adding: In addition Brig. Gen. Salami said the Zionist regime uses political bluffs and psychological threats against Iran but: He went on to say these tactics are used to force Iran to go to war, reiterating Iran considers them words of \" fierce Battle\": Brig. Gen. Salami talked about Iran\'s strategic defense capabilities if ever attacked by arrogant powers. These military drills are being conducted in eight different regions throughout Iran and will continue till October 19th.

The United States has launched a multinational military drill involving Patriot missiles and fighter jets in Jordan despite condemnation from Russia. Over 4,500 US troops, around 3,000 Jordanians, and 500 soldiers from Britain, Saudi Arabia and other countries are participating in the Eager Lion exercise, which started on Sunday, military officials said. Also speaking to Press TV, Iran's Basij Force Commander said the naval drill is the first of its kind, because it covers 2000 kilometers. He also said the war games pose no threat to Iran's Persian Gulf neighbors. Some 40 percent of the world's oil supply passes through the strait of Hormuz. The commander of Basij Force dismissed Western claims that Iran plans to close the Strait of Hormuz during the military exercises. Iran launched the massive naval exercise on Saturday. The Navy is expected to employ new classes of submarines, drones, ground-to-sea missiles and torpedoes during the ten-day maneuvers.

[03 July 2012] Iran military power defensive not offensive - English Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps' (IRGC) has begun its military drill, the Great Prophet 7, by firing indigenously made missiles at hypothetical enemy bases. On Tuesday, IRGC's long, medium and short-range missiles targeted "simulations of the trans-regional forces' airbases" in the northern Semnan Desert. The domestically-produced missiles include Shahab (Meteor) 1, 2, 3, Khalij Fars (Persian Gulf), Tondar (Lightning), Fateh (Victor) and Zelzal (Quake) as well as Qiam (Uprising). Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says the ongoing drill in the central sector of the country is intended to convey a message of sovereignty and full preparedness to establish security in the Persian Gulf as well as the Strait of Hormuz. NATO is holding one of its largest post-Cold War military drills near Russia\'s borders. Poland and the Baltic states are hosting the war games launched on Saturday. Code-named \"Steadfast Jazz\", the exercises involve some SIX thousand troops from NATO as well as non-member states such as Finland, Sweden and Ukraine. Around half of them will participate in live exercise training, which will involve armor, aircraft and naval vehicles. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says the week-long war games are designed to prepare forces to defend any ally from an unidentified foreign invader. NATO\'s recent actions have raised tensions in the region. Russia has already expressed concerns over NATO\'s missile and radar deployments in Eastern Europe calling them threats to its security.

Speaking before the drill, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said Iran\'s armed forces are fully ready to deter the enemy\'s provocations. Speaking to Press TV, the commander of Basij division of Alborz Province said the annual drill seeks to prepare the forces to deal mentally and physically with the realities of combat. The IRGC commander also said the drills are a way of reassuring the public that the country\'s armed forces, including the Basij, can defend them come what may. The Basij is a volunteer force established in 1979 by the order of the late Imam Khomeini, the founder of Islamic Revolution. The force has millions of civilian volunteers across the nation.
