Plans to legalize gay marriage in England and Wales is being debated in the UK Parliament. It is currently going through its two-day report stage and third reading. Amendments to the bill are also being proposed.
MPs in the House of Commons will vote on a number of amendments to the gay marriage bill, including an amendment put forward by one Conservative MP who is opposed to gay marriage. The Tory MP wants civil partnerships to be extended to opposite-sex couples. But this amendment could delay the bill, increase costs and could force the government to drop the bill altogether.

A US Senator says Congress is expected to have a sanctions bill against Iran. John McCain says the bill will take effect if Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries don\\\'t finalize a nuclear deal soon.
McCain made the comment on a US television, where he also warned Iran that it was \\\"very likely\\\" the bill would take effect if a final agreement was not penned within the next six months. Earlier, during a Senate hearing last week, Secretary of State John Kerry had defended the recent interim nuclear deal signed with Iran. He urged lawmakers to hold off on any new sanctions legislation for a while. Tehran says Americans, on the one hand, are trying to justify the recent nuclear deal with Iran-- while, on the other, they target Iran with more sanctions.

A group of defiant US lawmakers will introduce a bill to impose more sanctions on Iran despite Washington\'s efforts to hold off new measures.
Senate aides say a vote on the bipartisan plan is expected in January. The bill aims to target Iran\'s remaining oil exports and foreign exchange. The administration of President Barack Obama has been calling on lawmakers to delay any more sanctions as a diplomatic path with Tehran is pursued. Iran and the P5+1 group reached a nuclear deal in Geneva last month. Tehran agreed to limit its nuclear energy program in exchange for some sanctions relief. The sides have agreed to work to reach a comprehensive deal in six months. Tehran has warned that new US sanctions will kill the Geneva deal.

More than a quarter of the US Senate introduces a new bill to impose fresh sanction on Iran.
The bill is sponsored by 13 Democrats and 13 Republicans. They say the sanctions will be slapped against Iran if the country breaches the terms of last month\'s Geneva deal. The draft also forces the US administration to support Israel militarily, diplomatically and economically in case Tel Aviv decides to launch an attack against Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Congress has recently tripled the US government\'s requested aid for Israel. Meanwhile, the White House has highlighted the use of diplomacy as a suitable approach for resolving Iran\'s nuclear issue.

[14 Aug 2012] West not after democracy in Syria Bill Jones - English
Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Hamed Hassan says Damascus welcomes "rational talks" with the opposition, provided that they are held under the supervision of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Hassan further warned against plots hatched by foreign powers, including certain regional and Western countries, to cause instability in Syria, saying not only would such efforts threaten the security of the Arab state, but are "a serious threat to the security and peace of the region and certain neighboring countries in particular."
The Syrian envoy further added that continuation of the plots to incite instability in the country can even pose "a serious threat to Arab countries not neighboring Syria".
Syria, which has been experiencing unrest since last year, has repeatedly said that weapons used by armed groups fighting against the government of Bashar al-Assad are being smuggled into the country from Turkey and Lebanon.
Damascus has also accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar, of fueling unrest in the country by funding and arming the anti-Syria gunmen.
Syria has been the scene of deadly unrest since mid-March, 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
Press TV has conducted an interview with William Jones with the Executive Intelligence Review from Washington to further discuss the issue.

Iran\'s Vice President for Strategic Planning, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, in a press conference answered questions about the country\'s draft budget bill. The document was presented to Iranian Parliament by Iran\'s president Hassan Rouhani on Sunday. The 315 billion dollar draft budget bill is 7.5 percent more than last year\'s budget. It is made up of general budget which is 7.3 percent less and company budget that is 9.6 percent more than last year\'s budget. Nobakht stated that the increase in company budget sends an economic message to the private sector. Iranian Vice President added that the budget is set based on revenues mostly from taxes and customs, then oil revenue and last but not least government companies\' earnings.

A group of lawmakers in the US have introduced legislation that would finally bring to an end Washington\'s authorization to wage war in Iraq.
The introduced bill has been led by Republican Senator Rand Paul. He says that US President Obama declared the war in Iraq over two years ago. Yet, it\'s necessary to bring the war to an official and legal end. Although Barack Obama has declared the war over, a loophole in the law green-lighting the March 2003 invasion allows for future U-S presidents to send troops back to Iraq. In 2003, the US attacked Iraq under the pretext that the regime of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. WMDs were never found in the country and the war killed hundreds of thousands of people.
