Three Indian peacekeepers are confirmed dead in an attack on a UN base in South Sudan. India\'s UN envoy says the peacekeepers were targeted and killed during an attack by a group of ethnic youths on the base in Jonglei state. The attackers were apparently chasing civilians who had taken refuge in the base. The attack on the UN base came after troops loyal to fugitive former vice president Riek Machar seized the town of Bor late Wednesday. Hundreds of people have been killed in South Sudan since violence broke out in the country on Sunday.

In a clear signal showing Pentagon\\\'s determination to maintain its military presence in the Persian Gulf, the US Navy is expanding its Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain. Under the 580 million dollar expansion project, the Naval Support Activity Bahrain which is home to the US Fifth Fleet is expanding to an adjacent 77-acre piece of land along the waterfront. Under the plan, the US Navy base will nearly double in size. Since 2008, the base personnel has more than doubled from 3000 to 7000. The US Navy initially took over the base from the British Royal Navy in 1971 when it covered just 10 acres of land.

A new report has been released by the Russian media claiming Israel used a Turkish military base to attack Syria on July 5th. According to the report published by Russia today, Israeli war planes left a military base inside Turkey and approached the Syrian city of Latakia from the sea. The report says Israelis used this route because they wanted to make sure they stayed out of Syrian air space, in order not to become a legitimate target for the Syrian army. In a televised interview on Monday, the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Davutoglu strongly denied claims that Turkey allowed Israel to use Turkish soil to attack Syria.

To Afghanistan, where a car bomb attack has killed at least three U-S-led troops in the capital Kabul. There\\\'s no word yet on the nationalities of the foreign soldiers. But security officials have told Press TV that the blast took place very close to the U-S military base, Camp Phoenix. The bomb went off when a convoy of foreign troops was passing by. Meanwhile, Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. The latest casualties have pushed to over one-hundred-sixty, the number of US-led troops killed across Afghanistan so far this year. Most of them are American.
