Meeting in the Turkish seaside resort of Bodrum under the auspices of the UJN the scholars, who represent all of Pakistan\\\'s major Islamic sects and tendencies, agreed to come together to tackle religious intolerance in the interests of Muslim unity. The signatories include Sahibzada Muhammad Hamid Raza of the Sunni Ittehad Council, Sahibzada Muhammad Hamid Raza of Jamiat Ahle Hadith and Allama Syed Niaz Hussain Shah of Hoza Ilmia Jamia Al Muntazar. The 11-point UJN Pakistan Unity Declaration commits the signatories and the UJN to sign statements in the upcoming Islamic month of Muharram denouncing the killing of fellow human beings on the basis of colour, creed, ethnicity or religion as haram. The statements will also declare excommunication or takfir against fellow Muslims and abusing the Prophet Muhammad\\\'s family and companions as against the Shariah. Also party to the accord were Allama Mohammad Sadiq Qureshi (Minhaj ul Quran International), Maulana Syed Ali Murtaza Zaidi (Jamay Imamia), Liaqat Baloch, MP (Jamaat-e-Islami) and Muhammad Sarwat Ejaz Qadri (Pakistan Sunni Tahreek). The accord is based on Charter 3:103, initiated by the Islamic Human Rights Commission in 1997 and now a UJN core project, and since adopted by scores of Muslim organisations, which calls for Muslims to be united in accordance with the 103rd verse of the third chapter of the Holy Quran. It also addresses the challenging problem of madrasas in Pakistan, believed to be a breeding ground of intolerance, recommending that syllabuses and curriculums under the signatories\\\' respective spheres of influence address the need for respect, harmony and peace between all members of Pakistani society. Pakistan continues to face the blow back of its decision to side with the United States in its so-called war on terror. A new study shows that a 40 percent increase in terrorist attacks was witnessed in the country after new government took charge in May this year. The report prepared by the Conflict Monitoring Center reveals that September was the deadliest month as 215 violent incidents were reported. In those attacks as many as 284 people were killed and over 500 injured. Pro-Taliban militants have stepped up attacks following a unanimous resolution passed by the country\'s main stream religious and political parties last month to hold talks with them. The report also says that in the first nine months of 2013, more than 800 violent incidents were recorded in different parts of the country leaving over 2000 people dead and many more injured. Majority of the public here in Pakistan believe that the country is facing increased number of terrorist attacks due to its alliance with the US. Official figures indicate that as many as 50,000 Pakistanis including thousands of security personnel have lost their lives in violent incidents since 9/11 attacks. The current Pakistani government is pushing for a peace deal with the pro-Taliban militants. But many critics here believe that it will be a huge challenge for the administration in Islamabad to achieve that objective if militants continue their attacks.

For several days, the provincial government has blocked land routes for trucks carrying war supplies for US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan. The provincial government has avoided using police force to block the supply lines in order to prevent legal action because defense and foreign policies are the exclusive domains of the federal government. Legally speaking the federal government in Islamabad can dismiss the provincial government in northwestern region for overstepping its authority to block the NATO supply line. But given the fact that the anti-US sentiment is rising alarmingly, the federal government is hard pressed to decide on a clear policy action that goes beyond routinely condemning U-S drone attacks. The country\'s Interior Minister Chaudhar Nisar Khan says that it is time for Pakistan to choose between US economic assistance or self respect. The federal government is engaged in consultation process with major political parties to evolve consensus on how to bring an end to the US drone attacks that has effectively derailed the peace process with the pro-Taliban militants.

Pakistani officials have strongly condemned a deadly US drone attack in the country\'s north-west. Pakistan\'s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that such attacks are a violation of the country\'s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement was issued after a US drone attack on a seminary killed at least six people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Pakistan launches new airstrikes against militant hideouts in the northwestern tribal region, killing at least 30 people. Military officials say the latest strikes mainly took place in the Shawal valley and Datta-khel areas of North Waziristan. They say fifteen militants were killed in the South Waziristan side of the border, and another 12 in North Waziristan. Militants are using these areas as training compounds for their attacks. Pakistani fighter jets have been pounding targets in the region since the government\'s efforts to hold peace talks with pro-Taliban militants broke down this month. In recent days, people of North Waziristan have evacuated their villages, anticipating a full-scale military offensive.
