Letter 28: In reply to Mu\'awiyah, and it is one ot his most elegant writings
ومن كتاب له (عليه السلام(
إلى معاوية جواباً
وهو من محاسن الكتب.
Now, your letter has reached me wherein you recall that Allah chose Muhammad (S) for His religion and helped him through those companions who helped him. Strange things about you have remained concealed (by the irony of fate) from us, since you have started telling us of Allah\'s trials for us and His bounties to us through our Prophet. In this matter, you are like the person who carries dates to Hajar, or who challenges his own master to a duel in archery.
You think that so - and- so are the most distinguished persons in Islam. You have said such a thing which if it be true, you have nothing to do with it, but if it be not so, then its defect will not affect you. And what are you to do with the question of who is better and who is worse, or who is the ruler and who is the ruled. What have the freed ones and their sons to do with distinguishing between the first muhajirun and determining their position or defining their ranks. What a pity! the sound of an arrow is being produced by what is not a real arrow, and he against whom the judgement is to be passed is sitting in judgement. O man, why do you not see your own lameness and remain within bounds, and why do not you realize the shortness of your measure and stay back where destiny has placed you. You have no concern with the defeat of the defeated or the victory of the victor.
You are wandering in bewilderment and straying from the right path. Do you not realize it? I am not giving you any news: I am just recounting Allah\'s bounty, namely that a number of people from among the muhajirun (immigrants from Mecca) and ansar (helpers) fell as martyrs in the way of Allah the Sublime, and that each of them is distinguished (on that account), but when one of us secured martyrdom he was named the Chief of all martyrs, and the Messenger of Allah (S) gave him the peculiar honour of saying seventy takbir (Allahu Akbar) during his funeral prayer.
Do you not know that a number of people lost their hands in the way of Allah, and that everyone is distinguished (on that account), but when the same thing occurred to one of us he was given the name \"the flier in Paradise\"; and \"the two winged\". If Allah had not forbidden self-praise, the writer would have mentioned numerous distinctions which the believer knows full well and which the ears of hearers do not wish to forget.

FRIENDS - LET THIS not come as a surprise to you. This is the reality of the world where, according to U.N. estimates, one billion people in the world daily suffer from hunger and malnutrition, and their situation is not getting any better. About 24000 people die every day from hunger or hunger related causes. Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five. -- HOW YOU CAN HELP - Don't waste natural resources. Be thankful to God for His gifts and blessings. Be mindful of your responsibility toward other human beings. Think about what the Prophet -pbuh- would do. Have mercy and compassion toward all humankind. Next time you spend money on those unnecessary luxuries of your life think for a moment about the plight of the poor and oppressed around the world. Be aware of the materialistic forces and the contradictions of the dominant economic systems that are at the roots of global inequality. Don't become a part of this system. Don't become a slave of consumerism and endless materialistic rat-race -- Among other things join a local organization that is working against structural and subtle forms of oppression like hunger, poverty, illiteracy, domestic violence, anorexia and bulimia and their connection to media, mass entertainment, perfect body images, etc. If there isn't any - start one today! -- You can also look into doing online activism. Check out moveon.org's work for ideas. Some online organizations also invite web surfers to click on their sites regularly. They say every click earns them revenue to support their causes. The Hunger Site is an example. Some may also invite you to buy their T-shirts and other souvenirs. I guess you can buy these items if you think they can help spread the word and encourage people to join a good cause. Otherwise in general more shopping and more consumption cannot be a solution to human suffering. And its not a good idea to sell consumers to products through clicks or ads. That feeds into the same loop of consumerism. My suggestion - Adopt Simplicity and Donate directly! And encourage others to do the same! - Lastly remember the advice IMAM ALI gave in his LAST WILL ---- MY ADVICE to you is to be conscious of Allah and steadfast in your religion. Do not yearn for the world and do not be seduced by it. Do not resent anything you have missed in it. Proclaim the truth - work for the next world. Oppose the oppressor and support the oppressed.---- Become a friend and supporter of the oppressed people and an enemy of the oppressors and all forms of oppression!

The second half of the video has Persian lyrics. Here is a related and very insightful excerpt from Shaheed Baqir Sadr's book THE AWAITED SAVIOR: The Mahdi is not only an embodiment of the Islamic belief but he is also the symbol of an aspiration cherished by mankind irrespective of its divergent religious doctrines. He is also the crystallization of an instructive inspiration through which all people, regardless of their religious affiliations, have learned to await a day when a heavenly mission, with all its implications, will achieve their final goal and the tiring march of humanity across history will culminate satisfactorily in peace and tranquillity....... The religion, when it endorses this common consciousness and stresses that in the long run this world will be filled with justice and equity after having been filled with injustice and oppression, gives it a factual value and converts it into a definite belief in the future course of humanity. This belief is not merely a source of consolation, but it is also a source of virtue and strength. It is a source of virtue because the belief in the Mahdi means the total elimination of injustice and oppression prevailing in the world. It is a source of inexhaustible strength because it provides hope which enables man to resist frustration, howsoever, hopeless and dismal the circumstances may be. The belief in the appointed day proves that it is possible for the forces of justice to face the world filled with injustice and oppression, to prevail upon the forces of injustice and to reconstruct the world order. After all prevalence of injustice, howsoever dominant and extensive it may become, is an abnormal state and must in the long run be eliminated. The prospect of its elimination after reaching its climax, infuses a great hope in every persecuted individual and every oppressed nation that it is still possible to change the state of affairs. -- http://www.al-islam.org/awaited/index.htm

This video clip, provided to you through MrMehdi Thaqalayn Production on YouTube, is a very rare interview with Ayatollah Sayyed Shahid Dr. Muhammad Huseiney Beheshtey. The topic in this interview, which was held during the beginning of 1980s, was to discuss and present the Main Governmental Laws in Iran.
He was one of the strongest pillars that the Islamic revolution in Iran relied on. This revolution was successfully accomplished year 1979, and transformed the constitutional monarchy of Iran, led by the Shah (King) Muhammad Reza Pahlawi, to an Islamic Republic by referendum.
Ayatollah Dr. Beheshtey was a highly educated scholar. He was born in 1929 in Esfahan, Iran. He dedicated his life for religious and humanitarian studies and reached the level of an academic doctor. He managed five languages fluently; Persian, Arabic, English, Germany and French. He was highly active during his life, and due to that and his endless knowledge the scholars in Qom (Iran) asked him to move to Germany to lead and organize the Muslim society in Hamburg. In 1966 he moved to Hamburg and in five years he founded many Islamic movements and he also managed to found a mosque there. In 1971 he moved back to Iran. Due to the instable political situation he was under house arrest by the governmental intelligence (Savak) then, which feared such a strong personality. This house arrest continued till the revolution was successfully accomplished. Year 1982, i.e. three years after the revolution, he and 71 other important personalities who founded and supported the revolution, were martyred in a bomb blast at the head quarter of their party, "Hezbe Jomhoori" (The Republic Party), during an important meeting they were holding. However, the bombing was carried out by the internationally blacklisted "Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization", which Imam Khomeini (r.a.) used to refer to it as "Monafiqeen-e-Khalq", i.e. "The Hypocrites of the Creation".
Language: Persian
Further,
The Commander of the Believers, Imam Ali [a.s.] said: " ...The reward of a religious scholar is greater than the reward of a person who is fasting on days and establishes prayers during the night and fights in the Holy War for the sake of Allah. And, when a religious scholar dies, there will appear a gap in Islam which cannot be compensated except by a replacement of that (kind)." - Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 2, p. 43

However, the bombing was carried out by the internationally blacklisted "Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization", which Imam Khomeini (r.a.) used to refer to it as "Monafiqeen-e-Khalq", i.e. "The Hypocrites of the Creation".

Further,
The Commander of the Believers, Imam Ali [a.s.] said: " ...The reward of a religious scholar is greater than the reward of a person who is fasting on days and establishes prayers during the night and fights in the Holy War for the sake of Allah. And, when a religious scholar dies, there will appear a gap in Islam which cannot be compensated except by a replacement of that (kind)." - Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 2, p. 43

"... Although his life was too short, he had left us with the invaluable heritage, which was a shining part of a clear conscience and a soul full of love toward the Islamic ideology. He started to teach and educate the people in the society through his skills in writing, and the powerful thought on the analysis of the Islamic issues and explanation of the philosophical facts, according to common people's style without any sign of unrest. His written and oral works are all informative and can guide the people's spirits. His positions and pieces of advice which originally came from his heart was full of true belief and Islamic ideology suits the mystic as well as the common people."

Friends, let this not come as a surprise to you. This is the reality we are living in where it is ‘estimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. That’s roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these causes each year. About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger related causes… Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.’
--HOW YOU CAN HELP --
Don’t waste natural resources. Be thankful to God for His gifts and blessings. Be mindful of your responsibility toward other human beings. Think about what the Prophet (saws) would do. Have mercy and compassion toward all humankind. Next time you spend money on those unnecessary luxuries of your life, think for a moment about the plight of the poor and oppressed around the world. Be aware of the materialistic forces and the contradictions of the dominant economic systems that are at the roots of global inequality. Don’t become a part of this system. Don’t become a slave of consumerism and endless materialistic competition.
Understand that it is not enough to just keep yourself from engaging in consumerism. It's not always easy to protect yourself and your family against the multi-billion dollar industry of marketing. Join forces with other like-minded people. Strengthen your communities that can serve as a buffer against corporations. Engage in collective action. Transform people's consciousness and hyper-consumeristic lifestyles. Among other things, join a local organization that is working against subtle forms of oppression, like hunger, poverty, illiteracy, domestic violence, anorexia and bulimia, perfect body images, and endless materialistic competition. If there isn’t any, start one today!
For ideas, you can look into doing online activism. Check out moveon.org’s work. Some online organizations also invite web surfers to click on their sites regularly. They say every click earns them revenue to support their causes. The Hunger Site is an example. Some may also invite you to buy their T-shirts and other souvenirs. I guess, you can buy these items if you think they can help spread the word and encourage people to join a good cause. But, in general, more shopping and more consumption cannot be a solution to human suffering. Selling consumers to products through clicks or ads is exactly what we need to shun. Because that feeds into the same loop of consumerism. My suggestion: Donate directly! And, encourage others to do the same!
Lastly, remember the advice Imam Ali gave in his Last Will:
“My advice to you is to be conscious of Allah and steadfast in your religion. Do not yearn for the world, and do not be seduced by it. Do not resent anything you have missed in it. Proclaim the truth; work for the next world. Oppose the oppressor and support the oppressed.”
Become a friend and supporter of oppressed people and an enemy of oppressors and all forms of oppression."

One of the most famous sermons delivered in the history of Islam in which the grand daughter of the Holy Prophet (s) is brought to face the tyrant Caliph of the time, Yazid, as a captive and prisoner of war. Following the massacre of Imam Hussain (a), his family and companions at Karbala, Yazid went on to parade the family of the Holy Prophet (s) through the various Islamic cities culminating at the center of his power, Damascus. In these extremely hostile conditions, Lady Zaynab delivered a most eloquent sermon with the courage and poise of her father and grandfather in which she spoke to Yazeed with unwavering truth of his vile nature and the efforts of his ancestors that always aimed to extinguish the light of Islam since its dawn. She then magnificiently concludes - after having seen her own family massacred and mutilated - by establishing the blessed end that awaits the patient and virtuous ones.

Dua Tawassul is a supplication recited by the Followers of the Family of the Prophet of Islam -Ahlulbayt- in which they ask Allah-the Exalted-for the intercession of those pure people whom He has spoken of in the Quran - when Allah says -None shall have the power of intercession but such a one as has received permission -or promise- from -Allah- Most Gracious - 19.87 - Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth 2.255 - no intercession avail except for those for whom permission has been granted by -God- 20.109 - And those whom they call upon besides Him have no authority for intercession. BUT he who bears witness of the truth and they know -him- 43.86 - And how many an angel is there in the heavens whose intercession does not avail at all except after Allah has given permission to whom He pleases and chooses - 53.26 Question - Does Allah -swt- allow us to use others as a Wasila -means of approach- to him. Yes - Allah -swt- tells us in the Quran that the sole reason for creating Man and Jinn is so that they worship Him. We are here to worship Allah who also says in the Quran -Fear Allah and find a wasila to him 5.35. The definition of wasila is -a means of approach- so worship is not direct - it is attained via a means of approach - a guide. Remember Allah -swt- is not telling you to create a wasila - he is telling you to find it. So it exists - it is down to you to find it. For mankind that wasila can only be through a fellow human being - we have no contact with jinns and therefore they cannot act as a wasila. Angels likewise cannot act as a wasila to Allah -swt- as they have no contact with us until the time of death. The wasila will have to be a human being- because the earth is inhabited by humans and as Allah says when explaining the appointment of Prophets -If there were angels on the earth I would send them an angel as a Prophet from heaven -Surat al Isra verse 95 Question - Is this Dua authentic - Shaykh Tusi says - in his book Misbah - that Imam Hassan bin Ali Al Askari a.s. wrote this duaa for Abu Muhammad who requested him to teach him the proper way of reciting salawat. Allama Majlisi has mentioned this duaa on the authority of Ibn babawayh who confidently says that there is no difficulty or problem that this duaa does not solve. The merciful Allah is beseeched in the name of and for the sake of the Holy prophet and his Ahl ul Bayt. It is known as the Dua which fulfills all legitimate desires in a short amount of time. To the freedom fighters I say - I received your letter and heard your words. I swear to God - you are like you said. Yes - you are the true promise and you are the imminent victory - God willing. You are the freedom of the prisoners - the liberation of the land - the defenders of the homeland - honor and dignity. Brothers - you are the authenticity of the history of this nation and you are the salvation of its soul. You are its civilization - culture - value - love and gratitude. You are the slogan of its heroism. You are the immortality of the cedars in our summits - the humbleness of our wheat spikelets in our valleys. You are the self-esteemed people like the high mountains of Lebanon that empowers the powerful and overcomes the haughty. After God - you are the hope and bet. You have been and will remain the hope and bet. I kiss your heads that made all heads high. I kiss your hands that get the grip on the firelock - shooting with the help of God at the killers of his prophets and slaves - shooting those spreading mischief on the land. I kiss your feet that are sinking in the earth without trembling or swaying from their positions even if the mountains had to sway. Brothers -you- who lent their brains to God and watched the far lines of the enemy - my reply to you is my thanks to you because you accepted me as one of you - a brother of yours. This is because you are the leaders - you are the lords - and you are the crown on the head and the pride of this nation. You are the men of God through whom we will triumph.
