Mountain Peak Insects Fast:
Beetles spend the winter season on peaks of mountains in the freezing temperature.
The peaks of mountains are very cold and snowy, the temperature roughly being up to thirty degrees centigrade below zero. These insects need extra energy in the winter in order to tolerate the cold weather.
During the cold winters insects fast. Whilst migrating to the mountains, an important process takes place to make sure these insects are filled with fatty substances to keep them warm during the winter and provide energy whilst they fast.
During the migration they abstain from drinking water so that the ratio of water reduces in their bodies and the free-water changes form into bound-water.
The conversion of water to bound-water is really important because if it were not bound then at low temperatures the water content in their bodies would freeze and their bodies would also freeze. The bound-water is gradually released over time as a water-source and source of energy for the insects.

The Spiny Anteaters Fast:
The spiny anteater, is a type of nocturnal, burrowing, egg-laying mammal. It lives in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea.
It lacks teeth and is covered with spines. It has a slender snout and an extensible sticky tongue used for catching insects, such as ants and termites.
The spiny anteater prefers to live on mountains and high places over 200 meters above sea level. It likes to stay in uninhabited places and shadowed forests because it likes to feed on ants.
The spiny anteater puts its long sticky tongue inside an ant tunnel, and hundreds of ants cling to it, making a delicious meal for the anteater.
The anteater can fast from food for more than a month.
When food decreases because of an increase in population of anteaters or when a migration happens, they fast, and lack of food does not weaken them.

Silkworms:
Silkworms fast completely from food and drink at several stages throughout their life cycle.
In the beginning of spring, the eggs incubate small gluttonous larvae. The newly hatched larvae feed on mulberry leaves for five days and their bodies, therefore, grow up very quickly to the extent that their skin cannot bear this rapid development and so it's replaced by another spacious one.
They must fast for one or two days until their bodies are physically able to cast away the old skin.
This process repeats itself five times during the earliest stage before the completion of this metamorphosis over about thirty days.
After this it enters into another kind of fasting. It takes shelter in a quiet location to spin a covering for their pupae stage. The larva spins only one thread of fine, strong, lustrous fibre, the length ranging from 400 to 1200 metres and this thread makes a covering called a cocoon, fully made of silk.
The silkworm enters into the fasting, no-feeding stage (between the larva and adult in the metamorphosis of holometabolous insects) and during this period it undergoes complete transformation within the protective cocoon.
It has now fully developed into a beautiful silkworm moth, which lays its eggs after fertilization.
It spends the remaining five days of its life in a state of fasting after it lays its fertilized eggs.

Like many sura, the holy Quran here introduces a term (Al-Qaria, meaning \"the Calamity\"), and asks itself (and the reader) what it means: \"The Calamity! What is the Calamity? And what shall teach thee what is the Calamity?\". The answer is said to be a specific day, which has not yet come to pass. On that day \"men will be like scattered moths, and the mountains shall be like plucked wool\". This day is presumably the Day of Judgment. The image is of chaos and collapse, both of the social order of humanity, and of the cosmological order of the universe itself. The sura continues with this theme of balance The sura ends as it began, asking about how one will learn the meaning of the word \"the Pit\" - which is explained to be known in \"the blazing fire\" of Hell.Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as) has said that the person who frequently recites this surah will be saved from the heat of hellfire. If a businessman or a person in financial difficulties keeps this surah in his possession, the doors of sustenance will be opened to him. Recitation of this surah in prayers also increases in one’s sustenance. Water in which this surah has been dissolved is useful in keeping away unwanted pests (eg. Insects and rodents).

Transcript: "Named for its orange tint and large bushy tail, the fox squirrel is the largest tree squirrel native to North America.
It is mainly found in the eastern United States and southern Canada excluding New England with introduced populations in several western states.
They thrive in open areas with trees like oak, hickory, walnut and pine that produce food that can be stored for the winter. They primarily depend on tree seeds for food, but when that is scarce they will turn to other sources like buds, fruits, grain and insects.
They hide small caches of nuts in dispersed locations and come back to retrieve them in the winter. Unretrieved nuts are left to germinate and form new trees.
Fox Squirrels are dirurnal which means they are active during the day and rest at night. They spend more time on the ground than most tree squirrels, but are still very agile climbers."

The firefly is equipped with an amazing system. This insect has an organ in its body that produces fluorescent light. This light has great significance for the firefly to preserve its race, because the female and male fireflies recognize each other by looking at their lights. The fluorescent organ of the firefly is composed of three layers just like the headlamps of an automobile. Cells that produce light lie at the bottom layer. The duty of these cells is to produce a combustible substance. This combustible substance reacts with oxygen controlled by an enzyme. As a result of this chemical reaction, the fluorescent light manufactured in a similar fashion to a factory is first transferred to the adjacent concave layer and then to the upper transparent layer where it is reflected as light. The perfect quality and 98% productivity rate of this fluorescent light astonished scientists examining fireflies. The light bulbs used for lighting purposes by people can only convert 5% of the received energy into light, the remaining 95% being lost in the form of heat. Because of this 95% heat which is released, we cannot touch a light bulb when it is on. Despite the fact that the firefly produces almost 20 times more light than a light bulb, the temperature does not rise, due to the cold nature of its light. Man can produce cold light only in laboratories, at the end of a series of chemical reactions. It is obviously irrational to claim that this complex lighting system has been designed and then installed in the body of this tiny insect by itself. More irrational than this is the claim of the theory of evolution that this system formed as a result of coincidences in nature. The perfection in the firefly's body is an indication that it is the product of a superior wisdom and infinite knowledge. Allah created all living species with distinct qualities and through them shows us His Eternal Might. In a verse of the Qur'an, people are summoned to ponder on this fact:
Among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and earth and all the creatures He has spread about in them. And He has the power to gather them together whenever He wills. (Surat ash-Shura: 29)

This stunning slow motion footage shows how bats use echolocation to find water. We know how bats echolocate to hunt insects, but this is the first study to show how they recognise large, flat objects like ponds. Moreover, by testing young bats that had never encountered a pond or river before, the researchers showed that bats seem to have a built-in ability to recognize these important features of their environment. Salmon:
Salmon fasting over a long period induces a feeling of sensitivity in them so that they are able to recognise the proper location.
Each fish swims upstream in the river in which it was hatched to reproduce in the same place from which it originated.
When they are guided to the right place, the salmon start to dig holes for eggs. The females lay eggs, and the males cover them with their sperm to fertilize them.
The females are then motivated by instinct to cover the eggs with an appropriate layer of soil from the riverbed. They stay behind the eggs until they incubate and the young red salmon come out of their holes and shake off their dust.
Both parents cast a final look on the young and realize that they have successfully concluded their mission.
Then they pass away in a state of fasting in the same location, leaving behind a new generation of the young.
When those young grow up and become sexually mature, they will start their fasting and then pass away in a state of fasting in their own and their ancestors' birthplace.

Animal Instincts
Snails Fast:
Snails prefer damp areas. They bury themselves under the surface layer of the earth during the day and become active at night and on cloudy days. This way they are avoiding the heat and light of the sun so that their skin won't dry.
Snails get their nutrition from plants and from organic substances in the soil. Where winters are cold, snails hibernate like many other animals, fasting through the cold weather.
But they also fast in hot weather. These creatures have the ability to secrete mucus to cover themselves to protect their bodies from drying out.
During hot, dry periods, snails are threatened with dehydration. So they seal themselves off with a parchment like membrane, and often attach themselves to tree trunks, fences or walls.
During this time they fast until cooler, wetter weather comes. Both males and females do this.
When the cooler weather comes, snails come out of their shelters to seek their nutrition, declaring the end of their fast. At that time they have lost their extra fat and returned to their vitality.

Squirrels Fast:
Squirrels are vegetarian animals that fast for days at a time in winter. They live in places with cold winters and are very active in the autumn. They gather nuts, pinecones, and seeds and hide them in various places to eat during the winter.
While tree squirrels do not hibernate, ground squirrels do. Their length of hibernation depends on where they live.
In some areas they may remain dormant as long as eight months of the year. During hibernation, they are in a state of near suspended animation.
Their heart rate slows to only a fraction of its normal rate, and they might breathe only once every couple of minutes.
However, they wake up for a short period every four or five days to eat from their stored food. When the warm weather begins in spring, the squirrels become fully awake and active. They go after seeking fresh food.
