The governor of Kilis province claimed at least one ISIL terrorist was killed by the Turkish tank fire. This came after one Turkish soldier died and two others wounded by a fire from an ISIL-controlled Syrian region. Turkish F-16 fighter jets were also scrambled to the border region following the clashes. The latest unrest in Turkey has raised fears of a spillover of violence from neighboring Syria. The Turkish government has already started beefing up security at its frontier with its war-torn Arab neighbor. The border has served as an open gate over the past few years for militants seeking to join extremist groups in Syria.

A high-rise building has collapsed in the Iran capital Tehran after a fire engulfed its top floors. The fire broke out at the 17-story structure in downtown Tehran on Thursday morning. Scores of firefighters were deployed to battle the blaze. However, their efforts remained futile. Many people including firefighters are trapped. Thirty-eight people are also reported to have been injured in the incident. The 50-year-old building was among the first high-rises built in Tehran. It included a shopping center and clothing workshops, which had been evacuated. [29 July 2012] West Bank under fire - Remember Palestine - English A number of NGOs including UNICEF and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights as well as Palestinian Al Haq and the Israeli Yesh Din, issued yet another statement on the continued rise in settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The statement which states there has been an astounding 150% increase in settler violence since 2009 comes just a few days after a lethal attack on a Palestinian who was repeatedly stabbed by settlers after just being shot by Israeli soldiers. A report from the Palestine Center published this year identifies three potential causes for settler violence; it\'s response to Israeli government actions; it\'s a product of demographics and security arrangements; it is a response to Palestinian violence. The report also states that while Israeli settler violence is not new, the extent and frequency with which it is perpetrated today is new.

Australian officials are warning that wildfires in New South Wales could merge to create a mega-fire. They say 58 blazes are still alight in the state, with over a dozen reportedly out of control. A thick white smoke haze is now threatening Sydney. People have been warned to stay indoors and avoid exercising. A state of emergency has been declared in New South Wales since yesterday. Temperatures are expected to rise which will make firefighting more difficult. Hot and dry winds are also expected to intensify in the coming days. The bushfires that started on Thursday have caused massive damage in the Blue Mountains area. More than 200 homes have been destroyed and thousands of people forced out of their their homes. Firefighters say this is the most serious wildfire emergency in 40 years.
