Our condolences to the believers all across the world upon these days of Muharram and the commemoration of the mission and martyrdom of the Master of Martyrs, Imam Husayn (A).
Is creativity necessary when it comes to reciting and performing mourning elegies for Imam Husayn (A)?
Is there something wrong with being creative when it comes to mourning elegies for Imam Husayn (A)?
And to what extent can one bring creativity to the mourning elegies of Imam Husayn (A)?
Finally, what must be preserved when it comes to creativity and innovativeness in the mourning elegies of Imam Husayn (A)?
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei, speaks about the things to keep in mind when bringing innovation and creativity into writing/performing elegies.

Abdullah bin Umar met Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (as) in Medina. He said, “I’ve heard you want to go.” “Yes, come with me and help us,” said the Imam. “No, I can’t,” he said. “O Abdullah bin Umar, this world is not worth it. Come with me.” The Imam then told him a reason for him to be able to think correctly. He said, “This world is such that the Children of Israel would behead their prophet at night and live their life comfortably in the morning.” The Imam recited an elegy for one of the beheaded prophets in order to help Abdullah bin Umar lose his infatuation with this world. “This world isn’t worth it. Come with me. It’s a world where such crimes take place.”
What should hearing Imam Husayn’s elegies do to us? You friends who are mourning for Aba Abdillah al-Husayn and who love him, accept this that we have just started our relationship with Imam Husayn (as). The Imam’s martyrdom has not yet affected us. Do you know when his martyrdom will affect us? It’s when we start feeling the same way Zaynab felt when he said goodbye, and she fainted and collapsed. It’s when you take this elegy seriously on the night of Ashura, “Tonight the king of religion is a guest in her tent. O morning, don’t rise!”
Who can be affected by Aba Abdillah al-Husayn’s (as) martyrdom? The one who has this unusual thought the night before Ashura, “Maybe they won’t kill Husayn (as) tomorrow. Maybe. Could it be possible?” You say, “The story finished 1,400 years ago!” But when one has an intense love, his mind functions like this and is under the influence of his love. When he is told that Husayn, the son of Lady Fatimah, was martyred on the evening of Ashura, his life changes. He’ll live differently from the next day. “You’re not infatuated with this world anymore?” He replies, “I saw this world is not worth it. They killed Husayn, the son of Fatimah, and I pursue this world?”

An introduction by Sayyid Haydar Hasanayn regarding the way in which we mourn for Imam Husayn (A), the grandson of the Holy Prophet (S), who was martyred brutally in the battlefield of Karbala in 61AH. Each year in the month of Muharram, Muslims across the globe commemorate this tragic event by wearing black, by reciting elegies and poems and by weeping. How do we look at the movement of Imam Husayn (A)? Is it something which happened, and now we simply weep out of lamentation? ...Or is it something more than that? What is YOUR role in the story of Imam Husayn?

What is our duty when during the Azadari ceremonies, statements are made that are either unproven or have weak chains of transmissions?
What is our duty when someone recites something that is a flat out lie, when it comes to the Azadari?
How does Amr bil Ma’ruf and Nahi anil Munkar play a role in this?
And what are some of the conditions of Amr bil Ma’ruf and Nahi anil Munkar?
And finally, \"Should Mourning Elegies With Weak Sources Be Narrated\"?
The late Ayatollah Misbah-Yazdi (R) provides us with a profound crash-course on the basics of Azadari, the mourning over Imam Husayn (A), his family members, and his companions who were martyred on the 10th of Muharram, in the year 61 A.H.

Sayyid Haydar Hasanayn delivers a heartbreaking poetic recounting of the martyrdom of Muslim Ibn Aqeel, the messenger of Imam Husayn (A) who was sent to gain the support of the treacherous people of Kufa. Their betrayal of Muslim Ibn Aqeel and their failure to support the Imam of their time led to the massacre of Imam Husayn (A) and his family on the day of Ashura in Karbala. Every year, Muslims across the globe mourn Imam Husayn (A) and renew their faith in Allah and his Messenger (S).
This series is based on the authentic historical accounts of the tragedy of Karbala according to the Maqtals of Imam Husayn (A) and Lahoof.

An army of tens of thousands had gathered under the banner of the wretched Yazid, son of Muawiyyah in order to annihilate Imam Husayn (A) and his few companions. Their intention was to murder the grandson of the Prophet and destroy Islam. Imam Husayn (A) and his comrades knew that they were facing certain death. Yet, one man from among the commanders of Yazid’s army paced between the army of Yazid and the camp of Imam Husayn (A). Hurr.
He knew that abandoning Yazid’s forces and joining Imam Husayn’s side would mean certain martyrdom. And yet, what did Hurr choose?

The heart-shattering tragedy of Ali Asghar - Imam Husayn (A)’s 6-month old baby - whose tiny neck was pierced with a three-pronged arrow on the day of Ashura. Yazid’s brutal army had denied Imam Husayn’s camp of water for three days in the burning heat of the desert of Karbala. Imam Husayn (A) approached the army with his baby boy in his arms while the child was dying of thirst. Perhaps the men would show mercy. Perhaps they would quench this child’s thirst…
What crime did Ali Asghar commit?
Sayyid Haydar Hasanayn narrates this tragic event which highlights clearly for those who are confused; who was on the side of truth, Islam and humanity and who was on the side of oppression, injustice and tyranny…

The most painful moments of human history. It is difficult to listen to and relate the incidents which occurred on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura) in the land of Karbala. Imam Husayn (A), the grandson of the Holy Prophet (S), was brutally slaughtered like a sheep under the open skies by despicable individuals. This series is based on the authentic sources and Maqtals from Lahoof.
“Muharram is such a month that the Arabs of the age of ignorance (pre-Islamic) too respected its sanctity and forbade oppression and blood-shed in it. But these people (the Umayyads) did not honor the sanctity of this month nor of their Prophet. In this month, they killed the son of the Prophet and imprisoned the women-folk after looting and plundering their belongings, verily Allah will never ever forgive this crime of theirs.”…

After the tragic events of Karbala, it was the noble sister of Imam Husayn (A) who ensured that the message would reach the masses. Sayyida Zaynab (S), challenged Yazid - the tyrant of her time, which began ripples of rebellion throughout the lands and with her courage, patience and fortitude, she stood before the treacherous People of Kufa and said:
“What will you reply when the Prophet shall ask you, how did you fair, while you were the last nation, with my progeny and my children, the noble ones, that some of them are captivated and some drenched in their blood, this is not the recompense regarding which I advised you with which you treated my ‘Near-ones’, I fear that a wrath similar to the people of Iram might descend upon you”.

Does visiting Imam Ali’s (as) grave have more reward or visiting Aba Abdillah al-Husayn’s (as) grave?
Condolences on the anniversary of the martyrdom of the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (as).
===================================
More than the sufferings of Aba Abdillah Al-Husayn (as) are the sufferings of the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (as). Many of his sufferings can’t even be talked about. Some of them can be mentioned, but common people can’t understand them. Common people like us can’t cry over them.
Imam Ali (as) possessed all the talents in the world, but he did farming for 25 years. One should weep bitterly at hearing about each day that he was digging the ground. One curses the times when the people left Ali (as) alone. The universe is at his service! He himself was upset and said, “Ask me before I’m gone from among you.” Some of the elegies about Imam Ali (as) can’t be discussed. Some of those that can be described don’t make a common person like me cry.
An example is the man who said, “O Ali (as), why do you answer us without thinking when we ask you a question? Ponder over it a little first.” It was intolerable for them. Imam Ali (as) said, “If someone asks your name, will you think before answering?” “No.” Imam Ali said, \"What can I do? These things you are asking, and many other things similar to this, are obvious to me?\" See Imam Ali’s (as) loneliness.
I, with my little knowledge, when I study the life of Imam Ali (as), am I able to tolerate hearing of this great man’s loneliness? How much can we tolerate this? Imam Sadiq (as) was asked, “Does visiting Imam Ali’s (as) grave have more reward or visiting Aba Abdillah al-Husayn’s (as) grave?” Most recommendations are about visiting Aba Abdillah al-Husayn’s (as) grave and Karbala. So people asked, “How much reward does visiting the grave of Imam Ali (as) have? Does it have more reward?” Imam Sadiq (as) said, “It has more reward, in the same amount as Ali bin Abi Talib’s superiority in comparison with Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (as).”
Some may ask, “If this is so, why is visiting Imam Husayn’s grave mostly emphasized?” The reason is that we can be influenced by Imam Husayn (as) more. Otherwise, being influenced by Imam Ali (as) brings more reward. Visiting him has more reward and brings more light. But we cannot reach that level. We are usually influenced easier when hearing elegies and are able to pay attention to the light that shines on our heart.
The Imam (as) was right to say in the dream that he saw, “O Prophet of God, I am tired of this nation.” The Prophet (s) replied, “My dear Ali, curse them.” Imam Ali raised his hands and cursed them like this, “O God, take Ali away from these people.” It was as if the earth and sky shook. The divine throne shook. A herald called out and everyone heard, “Mawla (the Guardian) has been killed.” Shouldn’t we be shaken by this great tragedy?!

Shia Muslims across the globe are commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza, the 8th Shia Imam and rightful successor to Prophet Mohammad. In Iran, especially in the holy city of Mashhad, millions of mourners have gathered at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), to mark this sad day in history, reciting elegies in groups, and giving out to charity or free food to the mourners.
Back in 818 A.D., the Abbasid ruler, Ma\\\'moun, forcibly brought Imam Reza (AS) to the northeastern Iranian province of Khorasan from Medina in Saudi Arabia. Two years later the rightful successor to Prophet Mohammad was, imprisoned, poisoned and murdered by Mamun. He was buried in this place called Mashhad al-Reza, or the place of martyrdom of Imam Reza (AS). Imam Reza (AS) is the only Shia Imam reposing in Iran.
Imam Reza (AS) directed Muslims to the right path and removed deviated views of those who tried to distort Islam. This way the Holy Imam safeguarded and propagated the principles of Islam during his lifetime, until the vicious ruler of the time decided to eliminate him. His holy Shrine is now one of the most extensively visited pilgrimage centers in the world.

Tonight you want to read elegies about Imam Husayn’s (as) companions, right? Do you know what Imam Husayn’s (as) companions did to him? Imam Husayn (as) loved them. When Habib bin Mazahir was being martyred, the Imam said the same thing that he said when Ali Asghar was being martyred. He threw Ali Asghar’s blood up into the sky and said, “That which lets me tolerate this tragedy is that God is watching.” He said the same thing when his friend Habib bin Mazahir was being martyred. He held Habib’s head on his knee and said, “O God, since you are watching I tolerate this.”
This other companion of the Imam truly amazes me. He was shielding the Imam. He took this role on himself. When the Imam talked or went anywhere, he shielded him. He stood up for the arrows to hit him. He was struck so many times that he fell to the ground in front of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (as). He said, “Imam, I can’t continue anymore.” The Imam came and put his head on his knee. He asked, “O Imam, are you satisfied with me now?”
Do you know what the Imam answered him? [We should say] what kind of question is this? This truly affected Imam Husayn (as). Imam Husayn (as) said, “[My dear] you will be in front of me in Heaven. When entering Heaven you should enter in front of me.”
That desert was the place of showing love. Was this easy for Husayn (as) for this companion to be struck by an arrow in his chest and fall to the ground? It was easier for Husayn (as) to be struck by the arrow himself instead of his companions. When each of Imam Husayn’s (as) companions would fall to the ground [after fighting]
it is said that Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (as) would go to him like an eagle that goes toward its hunt. He wouldn’t let them bother his companion. Imam Husayn (as) would hold the companion’s head on his knee calmly and caress him until his spirit left his body. Then Imam Husayn (as), along with the other companions, would bring the body back. He wouldn’t allow anyone’s head to be cut off while he was still alive. Husayn (as) didn’t allow anyone to be beheaded…
