Human rights activists say the beating and torture of children is continuing in the Ukraine despite the new Criminal Code and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was adopted by the government last year.
The inhumane and degrading treatment of children is endemic in many countries. But the situation in the Ukraine is worse, as the lack of data makes the magnitude of the problem difficult to ascertain.

A car bomb rocked the central Mezzeh district of the Syrian capital Damascus killing and injuring a number of civilians. A three-year-old child was also among the people killed there. The explosion, which happened in the heavily populated al-Madraseh neighborhood, also caused material damage to the shops and apartments. Residents of this often-targeted neighborhood say armed men frequently attack them because they support resistance against the Israeli enemy. Elsewhere in the Rukn al-Deen neighborhood in north Damascus several bombers attacked a police station leaving several people dead, many of them the terrorists. Also, the insurgents attacked a criminal security branch in Bab Musalla in southwest Damascus. Authorities say at least 11 people died in the two attacks.

Video footage has surfaced online showing radical Salafist Sheikh Ahmad al-Aseer beating up a Lebanese abductee with his rifle.
The hardline cleric, whose extremist group of Salafists had recently kidnapped Mohammad Abu Zahr in the Abra region of the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon, is shown with some of his companions hitting the man.
Aseer had previously denied having attacked Abu Zahr.
The radical Sheikh is on the run from the Lebanese military after his armed group launched a deadly attack on an army post last month, leading to the death of 20 soldiers and injuring a number of others in the ensuing confrontations.

On June 25 a number of important players will meet in Dakar to discuss issues related to the International Criminal Court. Senegal is one of many African states that were early supporters of the court as an institution to make a decisive push in the fight against impunity.
Participants at the discussion in include high-level representatives from a number of French-speaking African countries. The ICC has received a lot of international attention in recent years due to a number of controversial cases being brought to its jurisdiction.
The fact that the cases have all been African has brought the credibility of the court into question, but there is no denying that it is now becoming a major force in Africa\'s desire to resolve issues of human rights abuses.
Another important factor is that a number of States have given practical votes of confidence to the court, in the form of referrals concerning crimes within their own territories - notably Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Mali and Comoros.
The states that have made these referrals have demonstrated confidence that the ICC will be able to investigate crimes when the states themselves are not in a position to do so.

The European Union has decided to bar all 28 member states from using any EU funds for projects in Israel\'s illegal settlements. Also beginning in 2014, all bilateral contracts must include a clause stating that East Jerusalem al-Quds, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Golan Heights are not a part of Israel. The directive will primarily affect research projects and financial grants. The declaration isn\'t a boycott of the colonies\' private sector, meaning the EU will continue to be Israel\'s number one trading partner, with some €30 billion in annual trade. But many are commending Brussels for finally introducing some accountability for the criminal theft of Palestinian land and resources. Analysts say that with the EU stuck in recession, Brussels is becoming more selective about their financial assistance for Israel. Europe is also fed up with funding Palestinian projects, only to see them destroyed by regular Israeli aggression.
