Munajat Shabaniyyah is an intense and very spiritual prayer, written by Imam Ali (A), which is recommended to read all of each day during the holy month of Shabaan but also for the rest of the year. This is a prayer which is one of the favorites among the Islamic mystics (Urefa) and read through the whole year. Ayatollah al-Udhma Behjat (RA) used to say: "Read this prayer when you feel like it yet." This prayer also had a special place of Imam Khomeini (RA) hearts. He has commented on the prayer many times in various ways to illustrate just how big it is. The "Light Within Me", he says: "According to reports, read all the Imams (A) Munajat Shabaniyyah. I have not read anywhere else on any other prayer or invocation, which was read by all the Imams (A)". He would finish his lectures and classes he held on to quote the following section where prayer may reach its climax in terms of spiritual love, ecstasy and divine closeness: "My Lord, grant me complete detachment from everything but Thee, and total submission to You. In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful I would like to extend my congratulations to all the dear graduates of the military academies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and all the dear youth who have received epaulets and joined the ranks of the mujahids of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army. The fact that so many faithful and sincere youth – graduates and students – join the great Army and Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic is worthy of congratulating. In every one of my meetings with you faithful and pious youth, I thank Allah the Exalted from the bottom of my heart. You should also thank God for these great blessings. Military academies of the Islamic Republic of Iran are the centers of knowledge and jihad. The scent of spirituality and piety in these academies keeps getting stronger on a daily basis. This is a cause for joy and happiness. These academies are active in terms of scientific work and they enjoy active students, good teachers and commanders who are also outstanding scientific figures. Moreover, the atmosphere of mujahid-like and pious preparedness, the war games, undergoing military training in the hot weather of summer during the month of Ramadan, the large number of cadets who fast once or more every week – these are things that are unprecedented not only in the Armed Forces of our country but also in the armed forces of the world of Islam. These things are the result of the firm determination of a nation that has been making efforts to raise the flag of faith, Islam and piety. Members of the Armed Forces – who study, undergo training, make efforts and prepare themselves for the sake of God and divine ideals and who enter the arena selflessly whenever there is an opportunity for selfless struggle and defense – are a source of power for Islam and Muslims. They are a source of power for the country. You are powerful for two reasons. First, you spend the valuable days of your youth on acquiring knowledge and engaging in jihad with sincere spirituality and faith. This is power. “And to Allah belongs the might and to His Messenger and to the believers.” [The Holy Quran, 63: 8] Power belongs to God, His Messenger and believers. So you are considered among believers. The second reason is that you are a source of power for your country and your nation. A nation that can prove it is prepared to resist and defend itself in order to have independence, preserve its identity and fight for its ideals and existence – such a nation is powerful. The power of such a nation is secretly acknowledged even by its enemies although they might not be prepared to announce this publicly because of being stubborn. You spearhead our national defense and today your power is acknowledged even by your enemies. Many of your enemies even acknowledge your power publicly. Allah the Exalted says, “Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies of Allah.” [The Holy Quran, 8: 60] Your preparedness makes the enemy fearful: not fearful of your invasion because you are not aggressive, but fearful of your resistance and of attacking you. In a world in which reliance on the power of bayonets and weapons can unfortunately play a determining role in the relations between nations and countries, in a world in which there are bullies who decide to take control of the destiny of other nations with iron fists, in a world that is materialistic, only a nation that proves to be prepared for defense will be secure from harm. Our Armed Forces and the Army of the Islamic Republic proved this. This is power. This is a source of power for a country. It is necessary to preserve this preparedness. You should preserve all your material and spiritual assets. During your service and throughout your life, you should safeguard your piety, faith, motivation and spiritual purity as well as your firm determination to defend the country. We are not a nation that attacks other countries and nations. We will never start a bloody war. The Iranian nation has proven this. But we are a nation that responds to all kinds of attack and even all kinds of threats with full force and determination. We are not a nation that stands by and watches the fragile materialist powers – which have been eaten by worms and termites from within – threaten the steadfast and powerful Iranian nation. We will answer threats with threats. Anybody who thinks of attacking the Islamic Republic of Iran should be prepared to receive strong slaps and iron fists from the Armed Forces, from the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, from the Islamic Revolution’s Guards Corps and from Basij: all supported by the great Iranian nation. And America, its regional puppets and its guard dog – the Zionist regime – should know that the response of the Iranian nation to any kind of aggression, attacks or even threats will be a response that will make them collapse from within. Continue your preparedness to maintain this national and international power. We should all be ready. Everybody should remain prepared to preserve the high values which will be permanent throughout history. Everybody should remain prepared in the arena of knowledge, work, industry, management and politics. And the Armed Forces spearhead our national defense in the military arena. We are confident that the greatest kind of deterrence is the firm structure of the Islamic Republic, our national unity and the closeness of the hearts of the Iranian people to each other. Everybody is responsible to preserve and strengthen this firm structure. I pray to Allah the Exalted to bestow success, good fortune, dignity and glory on all you dear youth, your teachers, your commanders and all those who have played a role in creating this beautiful and glorious reality. Some of the tests are with a great commotion, and they clarify our duty. Some of the tests are very quiet. A person may be deceived and suddenly lose opportunities. In many cases, the tests for reaching to the highest degrees of closeness to God, are very delicate and quiet. The people of Kufa said, “What should we do now? What will happen? We can’t leave Imam Husayn (‘a) alone. We invited him ourselves. Let’s wait until he comes.” Then they realized that Imam Husayn (‘a) won’t come. Hurr and his troops had stopped them. And Ubaydullah was preparing an army. They were thinking about what to do. People like Sulayman bin Surad were thinking. Then suddenly what happened? They brought the pure heads into the city. They blamed themselves, “We didn’t know such a tragedy would come about!” Thousands of people formed the Tawwabin (repenters) uprising. All of them knew that they were going to be killed, and they were killed. There was no use for what they did in history, and they didn’t gain the advantage of being in Karbala or Ashura either. What? You expected Imam Husayn (‘a) to pass through Hurr’s blockade himself, come into the city of Kufa, nock on your doors one by one, and say, “Come help me. They want to cut my head off. If you don’t come, this and that will happen.” What explanation did you expect from Imam Husayn (‘a) for you to come? Believe me, Arbaeen is one of the quiet tests. Some of the tests are very quiet. A person may be deceived and suddenly lose opportunities. Believe me, Arbaeen is one of the quiet tests. Arbaeen seems noisy, but it’s also quiet, because one might think, “Is it obligatory for me to struggle for Arbaeen?” I don’t know. What should I say? During these analyses, some lose this great opportunity. During these analyses, some lost the opportunity of helping Husayn (‘a). But, there was one person sitting in Imam Husayn’s (\\\'a) meeting on the night before Ashura. People informed him, “The cursed Ubaydullah has arrested your son.” Being arrested at that time meant being executed. They had to rescue him somehow. Imam Husayn (‘a) looked at the father and said, “Go save your son. I don’t want you to be here when you have this problem.” The Imam gave him some money and supplies and said, “Use these to gain your son\\\'s freedom.” If you have problems, don’t come to Arbaeen. If you were in Imam Husayn’s (\\\'a) tent on the night of Ashura, he would have said, “Go fix your problems.” Even if you were there on the night of Ashura! What did that father do? He looked at AliAkbar, the Imam’s son, and at the Imam (‘a). He said, “Your young son is going to be martyred here tomorrow. Now I should go after my own son? May my son be sacrificed for your son!” He started pleading, “Don’t drive me out of your tent because of this. I don’t want to go after my problems. I want to be for you!” He pleaded so much that the Imam (‘a) said, “Fine, stay.” The tests are not always noisy or clear in clarifying our duties! Some opportunities come and go quickly like lightning. Some opportunities don’t shake you and say, “Wake up. Get up. Move!” They don’t seize you by the collar. A person asks, “I have some jobs to do. There is Arbaeen too. I don’t know if I should leave my work, or not.” I say, “I don’t know. What should I say?!” I tell them I don’t know. If it was Imam Husayn (‘a), he would say, “Go, for sure. Go do your work my dear.” How much did you want to spend for Arbaeen? And you say you’re waiting for your Imam (‘a.j.) to reappear for you to rescue the world with him?! You didn’t spend that much for the dignity of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn’s (‘s) gathering in Karbala in the Arbaeen meeting place. You are waiting for the Imam (‘a.j.) to come for you to give your life? We consider Arbaeen to be a quiet test.

The 30th juz has 34 meccan surahs and 3 madani surahs. We will focus on the themes of heaven and hell for the last episode of our podcast series. We pray we arrive in jannah a place of God’s mercy, proximity and closeness and not in hell which is distant from Allah and absent of Allah’s mercy. The hereafter is the fruits of the seeds which we planted in this world. In Surah an Naziat, Allah swt reminds us that this is the day in which human beings will see or be called to remember what it is that they have strived for. Heaven and Hell are the outcomes of what we have done in this world. It’s important to note that the pleasures of paradise and displeasures of hell are not similar to the ones we experience in this lower life. In today’s exploration of Juz 6, we address the definition of what is ‘good’. Taqwa or God-wariness is the central criteria for judging ‘good’ in terms of actions and intentions. This is exemplified by the story of Habil and Qabil narrated here in Surat al-Ma’idah. Both of these sons of Adam followed Allah’s command to give a sacrifice, but it was only Habil who had the right intention of God-wariness which is why his sacrifice was accepted. While fiqh and ahkam are starting points for seeking closeness to Allah (swt) they are a starting point, not the end-all-be-all. When ahkam is combined with Godliness in our intentions, our actions achieve a level of quality and true taqwa and take us on a spiritual ascension.

The sinful must pray like the faithful with hearts filled with certainty as to God’s Kindness and Generosity. 5- Attract God\'s Compassion by being kind to others (by forgiving and praying for them). 6- Be generous by praying for others. 7- Help those in need, and be kind to relatives. 8- Show kindness to our parents, pray for our spiritual leaders. 9- Ask for a good livelihood and the destruction of those who bring about poverty. 10- Join the prayer gatherings with other people, at least for a part of the night. 11- Recite supplications, which are appropriate with our mood. 12- Read some of the Qur\'an. 13- Reflect and evaluate ourselves. 14- Think about the moment when we leave this life and review our will. 15- Don’t neglect remembering and thinking about Imam Ali (‘a). 16- Continually feel the presence of the living Imam, al-Mahdi (‘aj). 17- Plan for our future and changes to be made in our behaviour. 18- The third “Night of Destiny” is the night to pray for the coming of Imam Mahdi (‘aj). 19- Pray for a good destiny and martyrdom in the way of God (if one wants). 20- Make a pilgrimage to Imam Husayn’s (‘a) shrine, or send your greetings to him from far.
