In the past few decades, the free-market capitalism espoused by the Western world, with the United States of America at its forefront, has been hailed to be the best economic model known to mankind.
But the reality is quite different; \"American Free-Market Capitalism\" is all about taking maximizing profits from the mass majority of people and giving them to an incredibly small number of individuals.
Yet keep in mind that a system which isn\'t based upon God\'s divine commandments will never last; thus \"American Free-Market Capitalism\" is breaking apart from within.
A new era has already begun.

Occupy Calgary draws several hundred protesters
Hundreds of people drummed, chanted and protested issues ranging from income disparity, capitalism and corporate politics to homelessness and fiat currency during “Occupy Calgary.”
They began their protest at the foot of the locked glass doors of downtown Bankers Hall on Saturday afternoon. After about two hours, a crowd estimated to be between 300 and 500 people marched to Olympic Plaza, where several vowed to camp out over the weekend.
Police said there were no arrests. The demonstrators had remained peaceful.
Following similar protests in cities across Canada, the Occupy Wall Street movement is drawing thousands of people across the world to set up campsites in urban parks. It began in New York in September; when protesters began a sit-in at Zuccotti park to object to Wall Street’s role in the 2008 financial collapse.
“There’s a high disparity between the rich and the poor in Calgary,” said SAIT journalism student Sarah Pynoo, 19. “We’re one of the richest cities in North America, but we have enormous homelessness problems.
“And there are thousands of people living below the poverty line and that’s worrying.”
The protest was rich with signs, flags and even a few raging grannies. One cardboard sign, painted in a dark silhouette of a mouse, featured a red mouth with the sign “corporate politics eats people.”
Some protesters tried to draw awareness to investment fraud issues in Alberta. Others on 9/11 truth, a return to the gold standard, and mainstream media bias.

A segment from the documentary - We - where Arundhati Roy - the writer and activist - talks about the growing gap between the rich and the poor in the world. See the entire documentary at www.weroy.org. Roys comments in this segment end at a very insightful point where she says that both socialism and market capitalism are inherently flawed and are bound to fail. Because both are conjured up by the human-mind but they destroy themselves by human nature! I am reminded here of Shaheed Sadrs profound analysis at the beginning of his book - Our Philosophy. Any social system that does not take into account the various dimensions of human nature - including the material and the spiritual - any system that does not have a program for curing the problems in hearts and for developing the good potentials in human souls and only focuses upon the material factors is bound to fail - be they the socialist states or the welfare systems in capitalist economies. The strength and beauty of Islam is in its comprehensive-ness - in its comprehensive and wholistic guiding principles for all dimensions of human nature and for both individual lives and collective issues of society.

[13 July 2012] Is Islamic banking applicable in today economy - English
After the baking crisis of 2008 and the collapse of financial markets, doubts have emerged on the capability of the modern financial model to sustain a healthy economy. With the failure of both capitalism and communism, some experts, especially in Muslim countries are looking at Islam to find an alternative model. Islam's strong prohibition of usury (Riba) in particular is seen as a new foundation for a healthy banking system and consequently a sustainable and fairer economy. Other Islamic institutions like zakat and waqf (endowments) have potential economical functions.
In recent years Islamic Banking for example, has been tried with some success in some of Muslim countries and even in Britain. British Financial Services Authority estimates the assets controlled by Islamic banks at the global level to be $200-500bn which is growing at a pace of 10-15% per year. With prospect of about 12 million Muslims living in EU, Islamic financial and economical model is a feasible solution for the future. This week's Islam and Life asks: Are the principles of Islamic banking applicable in today's economy?
