Israel\'s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under fire by Israeli media for squandering public money on a posh lifestyle.
Reports of Netanyahu\'s plush items of interest come at a time when Tel Aviv is facing tough austerity measures. In a detailed document released by a civil liberties group, Netanyahu\'s alleged expenses on fancy whim-wham, including scented candles, flowers and ice cream, exceeded 900-thousand dollars in 2013 alone. Israelis have long been weary of Netanyahu\'s lavish lifestyle, and his failure to address the middle class\'s economic woes. Activists have held several large rallies to protest Tel Aviv\'s economic policies. Netanyahu\'s office has responded by saying that this year, they\'ve spent less than last year.

Every day, a thousand jobs are lost in France. 3.2 million French are looking for jobs, that\'s a record since the 1990s. According to the International Labour Organisation, western countries like France are focusing too much on austerity and too little on creating jobs. The worst affected are those who have been out of the job market for more than six months. At state run job centers, the wait for jobs offers is getting longer. But a study shows, the centers are unable to handle fresh waves of job seekers. The study shows employment offices like the one right behind me are have such complicated administrations that they will need over three dozen reforms in order to serve the French and help them find jobs that are badly needed.

[08 June 2012] Queen's Diamond festivity at the time of austerity - Comment - English
The Queen's Diamond Jubilee: the UK Queen celebrations for the 60th years as Monarch costs high for the British people gripped by the austerity measures. Some say the cost may be up to 3 billion pounds. As the Egyptian election is going on, Ahmad Shafiq -- Mubarak's last PM -- came second in the first round after the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate, Morsi. Palestinian people commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Naksa, the hunger strikes in Palestine, protests in Saudi Arabia, the Syrian unrest, these and much more stories are all discussed in this edition of the Comment with George Galloway

Meanwhile, thousands of people have taken to the streets of Rome to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Enrico Letta\'s government.
The protesters, who\'re angry over the government\'s harsh austerity measures and high unemployment, called for fresh elections. They also accused the ruling class of corruption. The relatively calm protest turned violent after the demonstrators broke a journalist\'s camera, accusing them of being terrorists. The rally was organized by the anti-European Forconi or Pitchfork movement, which has been demanding more national sovereignty and lower taxes. The movement initially started as a farmers\' movement and was later joined by truck drivers and students. The Italian president has warned that failure to swiftly introduce reforms to help struggling citizens could plunge the country into violent social unrest.

Authorities had deployed over 2,000 policemen across central Rome but the much feared demonstration organized by the Pitchfork Movement to protest against what its activists call a EU-imposed austerity regime drew 4,000 protesters only in People Square.
Originally made up by farmers and truckers, the Pitchfork Movement has grown into a network that includes disgruntled people from different sectors of society. However the movement has lately become fragmented as a result of the infiltration of political groups. The anti-austerity protest was also joined by neo-Fascist group CasaPound and extreme-right-wing movement Forza Nuova. Casapound\'s vice-president was arrested on Saturday for stealing the European Union flag hung outside the Commission\'s representation office in Rome. Pitchfork movement leaders have threatened new actions in the coming days.

Over 50-thousand people have attended a demonstration called by the Metalworkers Union FIOM in Italy\'s capital Rome. Temporary workers mostly from the health and education sectors as well as students and the unemployed took part in the rally to demand the new broad-based government put the issue of work at the centre of its political agenda. Protesters warned that they cannot wait any longer: they urged the government to bring an end to the policy of austerity and scrap some of the measures introduced by previous Berlusconi\'s and Monti\'s governments that have contributed to batter employment.
