The Household of the Prophet (‘a), the Manifestation of God’s Kindness
One of the other ways to understand, believe in, and taste God’s Kindness are the Household of the Prophet (‘a). A tradition says, “God divided kindness into 100 parts. He gave one part to the people. A mother’s kindness for her child, the love between a husband and wife, the kindness of a father towards his child, and the kindness of a child towards his father are all in this one part. He gave 99 parts of it to the Household of the Prophet (‘a).”
This means no matter how much the kindest mother loves her child, she is unable to understand the kindness of her Imam. I mean the kindest mother who has ultimate kindness and the highest degree of kindness towards her children. Now this should increase 99 times more, which is impossible, in order to understand the kindness of an Imam towards his nation.
You don’t dare to talk badly about a child in front of his or her mother. She’ll hold a grudge against you for at least 100 years. Now, if you talk badly about a follower and friend of the Household of the Prophet (‘a), how will they react with you? A tradition says, “Whoever finds a weak point or something against one of our friends, hides and keeps it in order to use it later when needed, has left from being under our Guardianship.” Imam Reza (‘a) said, “I’ve obliged myself to curse such a person every day.” This is very serious. Such a person will be completely ruined.
When we say that the Household of the Prophet (‘a) are kind, you too should be careful about (how you behave to) each other. Imam Baqir (‘a) narrated from Imam Sadiq (‘a), “I swear to God that I love your smells and your souls. We become sick when you become sick. We become happy when you become happy. We become sad when you become sad. But, our God loves you even more.”
This is very interesting. It is very hard to imagine. The Household of the Prophet (‘a) are the manifestation of God’s Kindness. If we understand their kindness, we’ll become kind with each other. If we understand the Household of the Prophet’s (‘a) kindness, which is easier to understand, we’ll understand God’s Kindness too. Then, our relationship with God will become beautiful.

[Clip] Ali Reza Panahian\'s conversation with a young man whose death was certain | Farsi sub English
A young man came to me and said, “Haj Agha, I have a problem and I want to talk to you.” I said, “Go ahead.” So we talked together. He said, “My first problem is that my death is certain....
A young man came to me and said, “Haj Agha, I have a problem and I want to talk to you.” I said, “Go ahead.” So we talked together. He said, “My first problem is that my death is certain. Because of a problem, I will certainly pass away.” I said, “No, with God’s grace. The length of one’s life is in God’s hands. Many have had the worst disease...” He said, “No, this is different.”
Maybe it was my first time meeting a person who was passing away. I was wondering, “So he won’t be alive shortly?” It was a strange feeling. He said, “I’ve accepted this. In the beginning, it was very hard to accept this truth. One morning when I woke up, I told myself, ‘You’re going to die. Live for now. Go out. Work. Talk. Communicate with people. You’ll eventually die!’ So I got up and started living. After that, when someone bothered me, I wouldn’t get upset. I would say, ‘I’m dying! I wasn’t bothered at all. I wasn’t jealous. I would say, ‘I don’t want anything. Let others collect these things.’ If a car with a bride and groom passed by, I was happy for them like their mothers. [I would say,] ‘Aww, it’s their wedding. I hope they’ll be happy.’ I would pray for young people like older people do. If a person stepped on me to move up, I would say, ‘It’s fine. Let him take it.’ If I helped someone, I wasn’t trying to become known because I wouldn’t be alive that long to benefit from such fame. I’ve become very relaxed. I don’t see any badness. My understanding of good words has increased.”
He mentioned these things one by one. I felt he was talking about the pious people’s features that are mentioned in Nahj al-Balaghah. I said, “I see.” He said, “If I pass away, will God accept these from me?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “But I’ve become like this due to my thinking of death.” I asked, “Don’t you believe in God?” He said, “Yes! I do. But I haven’t become better because of that. I love God very much too. God is the only one that I have now. No one will remain for me. But death is what has corrected me. Is this ok? Won’t they tell me, ‘When you found out you’re dying you corrected yourself’?”
I said, “No, the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (as), said, ‘Death is enough to advise one.’ You were advised and corrected yourself.” [He said,] “Thank you. I’ll go.” [I said,] “Wait! Let’s become friends. I’ve found a real person.” He said, “No, I don’t want to put you out.” “No, sit down. I want to talk with you more. What’s your illness?” “I’m not ill.” “But you said you’ll certainly die.” “I said I’ll certainly die, but I didn’t say that I’m sick.” “What? What do you mean that you’ll certainly die?” “I’ve asked if there’s anyone who can help me so that I won’t die and they said no.” “So when?” “One day, 1000 days, 30,000 days from now. I don’t know.”
I thought a little and saw that I’ll die too - either in a day or a thousand days… I said, “So you’re not sick.” “No.” How many days from now will you die?

What is your purpose in practicing religion? We can mention other reasons for our religiosity. They are right too. But it\'s not suitable to word it like that. It’s not nice or pleasant to say it like that. [We can count them,] “One, two, three, four.” Usually the reasons mentioned are not accurate. It’s more accurate to say, “I want to enjoy more.”
Why do you want to enjoy more in this world and in the Hereafter? Because God has created me to enjoy, not to suffer. God is kind. He has allowed me to experience pleasures and has created me in a way that I pursue enjoyments. He doesn’t say, “Don’t touch it! I want to bother you.” Is God like this?! One doesn’t understand God if he thinks he hasn’t been created to enjoy.
Have you seen how some fathers are a little grudging? God forbid, I don’t want to insult fathers. Or some employers or bosses. For example, a father sees his child is playing. As soon as he sees his child playing, he says, “Shouldn’t you be studying now?!” [The child says,] “You can’t tolerate me playing? You have to remind me now?!” Some people think the same way about God. They think God likes to see us suffering!
What is your purpose in practicing religion? Don’t say, “So I won’t go to Hell.” Don’t say, “I’m forced to.” Only a part of this is true! Don’t say, “This is God’s right.” What will happen next after you carry out God’s right? Will you enjoy it? [You’ll say,] “No, I’m not after enjoying.” You force me to say something! I have to tell you, “Kiddo! You’re not at that level! You’ll go astray with one small pleasure. And now you’re talking about carrying out God’s right?!”
Human beings have been created to enjoy. “Why do you practice religion?” To enjoy. “Is practicing religion the way for us to enjoy?” Yes! Now the second part of the discussion starts. Yes, no one else knows how to show the way. [One might say,] “No, God is showing us how to stay away from sins.” God is not that boring! God has created me to enjoy. Is it rational for Him to not let me enjoy? [He won’t say,] “I’ve created you to enjoy, but don’t touch anything! Go away!” This is a misconception about God! Such a God is not kind.
We say, “In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.” God Who is kind has created me to enjoy. We can’t deny this. Wouldn’t this be unkind for Him to tell me to move away [from pleasures]?
What is your purpose in practicing religion? We can mention other reasons for our religiosity. They are right too. But it\'s not accurate to word it like that. It’s more accurate to say, “I want to enjoy more.”

We are not supposed to abandon any of our needs, and besides our needs, any of our interests. We are supposed to increase ourselves each moment. We are not supposed to forget ourselves. Forgetting oneself is in fact a divine punishment. “Those who forget about God, He will make them forget themselves.” [Qur’an 59:19] Since they forgot God, God does something that they forget themselves too. When you look at a sinner, you see that he has forgotten himself, what benefits him and his enjoyments.
Each sin means you have forgotten and abandoned your own interests, enjoyments, likings and entertainments. Seeking benefits is not bad, but which kinds of benefits? Your small benefits or the great, lasting benefits? In fact, doing any good action is a kind of being self-seeking! But it’s a good way of being self-seeking and not bad. When is self-seeking bad? If you want your own benefits and others to sacrifice for you, this is wrong.
When is self-seeking good? It’s when you seek your own benefits by sacrificing for others. In the end, you’re seeking good for yourself! By sacrificing for others, you’re seeking good for yourself. This is a correct way of being self-seeking. [You may ask,] “I thought if I forget myself and my benefits, God will reward me. Now you’re telling me to be self-seeking?! Why should God love me if I am self-seeking?” If I want to give you a nice answer, I’ll tell you, “You don’t understand. You don’t understand that God loves us more than our mothers do.”
When we are self-seeking and are successful, the first one who rewards us is God Himself. When a child gets accepted for entering the university, his mother sheds tears of joy. “Mother, you haven’t been accepted. He’s been accepted.” She says, “Yes, he’s my child. He’s dear to me. His success is my success.” “Mother, you won’t be given anything. He’ll leave. She/he will get married and leave.” She answers, “That’s my child! I love to see his/her success.”
How does one get close to God? When you seek benefits for yourself, since God loves you very much, He gets happy and rewards you with Heaven. “Good job!” “Why do You reward me with Heaven? This was to my own benefit!” Shall I tell you the answer for you to be greatly affected by God’s intense magnanimity and affection?
God says, “I have created a creature by the name of ‘human being,’ and you have respected him. So I thank you. You have done Me a favor.” Where in the Qur’an does it say, “You have done Me a favor and I want to thank you”? Tell me the verse in the Qur’an.
It’s truly effective. “I’ve done You a favor?!” “Yes.” “Can anything else be a response to a favor but a favor?” [Qur’an 55:60] “You’ve done Me a favor, and I want to do you a favor.” “God, I’ve done You a favor?!” “Yes, you didn’t waste what I created. You did Me a favor as much as you could, and I will do you a favor as much as I can. You were able to do Me a favor this much. How much am I able to do you a favor? I’ll give you Heaven for an eternity.”
Each sin means you have forgotten and abandoned your own interests, enjoyments, likings and entertainments. When you seek benefits for yourself, since God loves you very much, He gets happy and rewards you with Heaven. “Good job!”

Aba al-Fazl (as) came to say goodbye to Husayn (as). My I be sacrificed for how you’re crying. How did Husayn (as) use to show his affection to Abbas (as)? When calling him, Husayn (as) used to say, “May I be sacrificed for you.” He loved him very much. I don’t know how Zaynab (as) used to call Abbas (as). These were their private conversations. Imam Husayn, his Imam, said, “May I be sacrificed for you.” Zaynab was his sister and sisters are more compassionate, tender-hearted and loving. She was a sister and full of affection.
For example, consider when they were on the way. It was God’s mercy that detailed memories of this caravan while travelling to Karbala have not been recorded. [It’s as if they say,] “Why do you want to know?” For example, they haven’t recorded Zaynab saying, “My Abbas, get Ali Asghar. Hug Ruqayya for a minute.” I want to say, “O Aba al-Fazl, don’t go into the battlefield. Don’t go. I plead you.”
Abbas came to say goodbye. Husayn (as) said, “Do you want to leave Husayn alone?” Alas for Abbas’s sorrows and sufferings. O Abbas, go and see what you can do for Husayn (as). You will have to become a martyr. But at least bring this waterskin back with some water so that you can relieve your sorrow a little by doing this. Abbas had so much hope and picked up that waterskin so confidently that the children felt less thirsty. They told each other, “Our uncle is going to bring water.” “Did you see how our uncle picked up the waterskin?! That’s it. Rabab, hold onto Ali Asghar. Water is coming. The way our uncle picked up the waterskin shows that we’ll have water soon.” When the enemies would beat Husayn’s children while traveling to Damascus, they would call for their uncle! How could they tell the children that their uncle would not return anymore?! He picked up the waterskin so confidently that everyone thought the same.
Abbas (as) expected the same. There is a sentence in history books that shows Aba al-Fazl was surprised himself too. When his hands were cut off, he didn’t care. But as soon as an arrow struck his waterskin, it is said that Abbas stood still. O Abbas, you didn’t expect this? It was then that he begged God to take him [due to his shame].

Sometimes we end up committing sins, which is bad enough, but sometimes we go a few steps ahead and do something even worse.
What is that something worse that we might end up doing after we have committed a sin?
And why is that something so bad?
And what do we attribute to Allah when we say \\\"It\\\'s All God\\\'s Fault\\\"?
Finally, what does Allah actually want for us?
Sayyid Shahryar explains using the wise and eloquent words of the tenth divinely appointed Imam, Imam Ali ibne Muhammad al-Naqi (A).
Hey, remember, it\\\'s never God\\\'s fault, but it most probably is yours.
Still, it\\\'s never too late to make amends, even if it is your fault.

Deep Inside the Heart
Agha Ali Reza Panahian
The prophet David (‘a) asked God, “God, who is at the same level with me in Heaven?” God replied, “The daughter of ‘so and so’ is at the same level with you in Heaven.” The prophet became curious about what this girl had that she was at the same level in Heaven? He got the address and went to that family.
He asked, “What good points do you have? What worships acts do you do? How vigilant are you?” She mentioned some of her normal deeds. The prophet David (‘a) said, “No, these are not things to cause you to be at the same level of the prophet of your time. Tell me more for me to understand.”
She said, “I am very optimistic about God.” The prophet David (‘a) approved and said, “This is what can cause a person to be at the same level of the prophet of his or her time.” God says, “I look deep inside My servant. Deep inside is the part of a person’s heart, which is hidden and which a person may not be aware of himself in many cases.” God says, “Let Me see what is deep inside his heart? Whatever it is, I’ll deal with him based on that.”
God determines our future for the next year on the Night of Power. How does He determine our future fate? One of the very important factors is to be optimistic about God.
Can a person pray or make up a missed prayer on the Day of Judgement? Can a person take money with himself to pay for his debts on the Day of Judgment? Can he give charity there? Can he do anything to gain some reward? There is one deed, which is effective on the Day of Judgement, and that is being optimistic and having hope in God.
After calculating a person’s deeds, they want to send him to Hell. He constantly looks behind himself. The Almighty God says, “Bring My servant. Why is he looking behind himself?” He says, “God, I didn’t think You would punish me.” God replies, “I have forgiven you now because you were optimistic about Me.”
Being optimistic is effective on the Day of Judgment! God replies, “I have forgiven you now because you were optimistic about Me.” Being optimistic is effective on the Day of Judgment!
God make us Your best servants on earth during this Month of Ramadan. Do you know why we don’t pray like this or cry for this? Because we say, “This is too difficult. Forget it. It’s not that easy.”
This is being disappointed. This is not something strange. “I don’t feel like it.” Do you know why? Because, you don’t believe you will be given such a thing. “Is God this kind? No!” This is an obvious insult, having doubts about the extent of God’s Kindness. This is being disappointed.
Where does our regret start from? It starts from each good deed that we weren’t able to do. We will blame ourselves and say, “I didn’t want it. I wasn’t optimistic. I didn’t have hope that God would give that to me. So, He didn’t.”
Being optimistic, hopeful, and not becoming disappointed are not just moods. In practice, they have effect. If you say it’ll happen, it will happen.
She suddenly said, “I am very optimistic about God.” The prophet David (‘a) agreed and said, “This is what can cause a person to be at the same level of the prophet of his or her time.”

What is the Coronavirus telling us?
One of the very valuable statements from Imam Baqir (‘a) is a letter he wrote to Sa’d. In the beginning of the letter, the Imam mentions a subject, which is needed by today’s society. “In the Name of God, the Companionate, the Merciful. I advise you to have ‘Taqwa’ (be careful of your duty to Allah). Because, this brings well-being from devastation and benefit when returning (to God).” [Osul Kafi, vol. 8, p. 52] Taqwa saves you from destruction. Your assets won’t be wasted. Your talents won’t be destroyed. It will become something valuable for your Hereafter.
The tradition continues, “Because of their Taqwa, Noah and the ones who were with him (the believers) in the ship were rescued.” Salih and his people were rescued from lightning with Taqwa. What does Taqwa mean? Vigilance. Be careful. That person is a careful person. What do doctors constantly say about this virus that has appeared? Take care. Wash your hands. Don’t kiss others. Be careful not to touch unclean environments. Right? This is taking care. Is it something bad?
Some people are not careful at all. When you remind them and they start being careful, they experience a new feeling. What is the difference between Taqwa and an ordinary being careful? An example of an ordinary being careful is when it’s dark and you touch things carefully and are careful not to bump into anything. This is for when you yourself are taking care of your world. This is like these regular sanitary measures and other ways of taking care. It’s like being careful when driving not to have an accident. This is a minimum amount of being careful. It’s very stylish and beautiful too.
Another kind is for people to be careful about carrying out God’s commands. Being careful in this case is a thousand times more. The Commander of the Faithful, Ali (‘a), said, “Whoever is careful about God’s commands, God will take care of him/her.” The effect of God taking care of us is much more than us taking care of ourselves. Sometimes a person takes care of his greatest benefit. He/she is careful about God’s opinion. This is Taqwa. You are careful like a child who is careful but is in his parent’s embrace. One hundred times more than the child, his father takes care of him not to fall or be injured. If one tries to hit this child, he will bring his hand forward as a shield to protect himself. But, more important than this is the father’s hand, which suddenly comes forward and protects the child.
We should take care for our interests to be protected. Taking care is the first condition to being successful in life. Taking care means paying attention. A pious person is the one who is careful. “Taking care” is something nice and it doesn’t get old. This is not like saying, “You like to be religious, but I don’t!” A doctor is careful. You like a careful and watchful person. God likes such a person too. This is a very chic life.
Then, the tradition continues, “With Taqwa, God protects His servant from whatever does not come to his mind.” Whatever his mind doesn’t understand, God will compensate for him. Imam Baqir (‘a) is mentioning in this tradition whatever doesn’t come to your mind and is hidden from you. How should I know which environment is infected by virus and which environment isn’t. Should I enter it, or not?
One of those who has fallen ill with Coronavirus is putting posts in his page. He said, “I became sick and went to the hospital.” He’s healing now. He said, “No matter how much I think about how I got this virus, nothing comes to my mind.” A person doesn’t understand! But, what if God takes care of a person? What is this virus telling us? It is saying, “Be more careful.” All of life is this. If the most important thing that you want to take care of is God’s satisfaction, God will open the way for you so that you may pass through problems when everyone is stuck in a dead end.
Whoever sees his problems in life have increased should be more careful. He should pray more on time and with more attention. When you are careful about God’s opinion, that He is not ignored, He is not disrespected, and are careful about His command, all of your worldly benefits will be provided better. This is what Imam Baqir (‘a) was saying. We need to be careful in misfortunes. If you want to be saved from this illness or any other fatal problem, you need Taqwa, Taqwa of the tongue, ears, and eyes. Increase this Taqwa and you will clearly see its effects.

Clip Sweet Taste of Faith
Ali Reza Panahian
Faith is sweet, beautiful, and beloved - faith itself! Faith takes one to a higher level of life. The Holy Prophet (s) lived with God! His existence depended on God. God gave flavor to his life. God was the sweetness of his life. God was what made things sweet for him. His soul didn’t enjoy anything else except God. Is the sweetness of faith something small? Are we just mentioning one of many things that are sweet?!For God’s sake, look at how indifferent we are about what is happening in the world. The Qur’an says, “He is with you wherever you are.” [57:4] We say, “Aha, ok.” “He is with you.” Such a person doesn’t taste this. He is with you wherever you are. He says, “So? What should I do?” “We are nearer to him than his life-vein.” [Qur’an 50:16] He says, “Aha.” Such a person’s brain has shut down! Tell him, “‘Wherever you turn, you are always in the presence of God.’ [Qur’an 2:115] Can you see how God has encompassed you?” But a person still feels lonely. This means you haven’t tasted the sweetness of faith. You should taste its sweetness. Do you remember when you were a little kid? As soon as your mom or dad would hug you, you would say, “Yes! Now I’m in my place. He/she is holding me. This is better.” When I was a child, I would go into my dad’s embrace in cold weather. When he would hold me under his cloak, all the problems in the world were solved for me in his embrace. After growing up, your dad’s cloak was supposed to be replaced with God, but it hasn’t happened. So you thought it’s natural for human beings to feel it’s just them. No, it’s not human beings that feel it’s just them. Yes, it’s… um... I don’t want to say sheep. They feel it’s just them, not human beings. Human beings have not been created to feel they’re alone. God says, “He is with Me. I’m with him Myself.” Faith is sweet, beautiful, and beloved - faith itself! For God’s sake, look how indifferent we are about what is happening in the world. Tell him, “‘Wherever you turn, you are always in the presence of God.’ Can you see how God has encompassed you?” But this person still feels lonely. This means that he hasn’t tasted the sweetness of faith.

Salam my dear. How are you?

Come dear.
Do you want to sit here while I’m talking? Shall I talk while you’re sitting here?

During the days and nights of the holy month of Ramadan, we should reap the most benefit. How can we receive light from this month? How can we benefit from God’s Grace in this holy month of Ramadan? By paying attention! This is the main factor.
The most important capacity we have in our soul and which we don’t usually benefit from is paying attention. Paying attention is not usually considered to be something that valuable. No matter how much you stand behind a store window and say, “I have truly paid attention to this car behind the window,” this is not something valuable in this world. People say, “You shouldn’t have paid attention to it.” But it is exactly the opposite when standing before God. Whoever has gained something, he has gained it by paying attention to God wholeheartedly and by beseeching Him. In the beginning, paying attention happens in one’s mind.
“I have turned my face to Him Who has created the heavens and the earth…” [Qur’an 6:79] A person should pay attention to God in his thoughts. Gradually, when this paying attention becomes deeper, it turns into paying attention with one’s heart. A person faces Him with his heart. “I have turned my face to Him…”
“Salam.”
Salam my dear. How are you?
“May I come up?”
Come dear. Come. It’s fine. Come up. Do you want to sit here while I’m talking? Shall I talk while you’re sitting here? Sit here; I’ll talk. You sit, I sit, and we’ll talk. It’s not a problem if I talk?
“No. Read.”
Read? She says read. Do you want to go down or are you comfortable sitting here? Do you want to go down? She says she won’t come. Let her be.
“Candy…”
No, no, leave her.
“I’ll take her. She’ll be distracting.”
No, will you be distracted?
“No.”
[Audience,] “Haj Aqa, we shouldn’t pay attention [as you were explaining].”
Don’t pay attention. She got the candy from you but didn’t come. Of course I am happy to be in the presence of this luminous child. She’s so pure. See. This dear child reminded me of Mr. Baha’udini. His son-in-law related, “Once, I came home, and I saw the children were very noisy. But he was sitting and thinking deeply. I said, ‘Children, be quiet!’ I quieted them. Then, Mr. Baha’udini noticed me. He said, ‘What do you want with the children?!’ I said, ‘I thought they shouldn’t be noisy and bother you.’ He replied, ‘What do they have to do with me?’ I realized that children do not distract Mr. Baha’udini at all.”
This ability to pay attention is very valuable. Paying attention means that my face, my soul and my heart are turned toward You God. I’m paying attention to You now. “I have turned my face to Him Who has created the heavens and the earth…” Paying attention to whom? To the One Who has created the heavens and the earth! God doesn’t want anything from His servant. He says, “Just pay attention to Me.” God gives everything to His servant. He’s not stingy at all.
God has created us so that He may give to us. God doesn’t want anything. God doesn’t like negligence. He says, “Why aren’t you paying attention to Me?” When a person pays attention, that’s it. Don’t leave your soul unattended to pay attention and become busy with everything it wants. Say, “Wait, I should have a program for myself now.” In order to strengthen your attentiveness, you should pay attention to your sorrows, my dears. Nothing will drag a person’s attention to itself like sorrows.
Find beautiful spiritual sorrows and pay attention to them. This is what supplications do. This doesn’t mean we should be sad. It means we should pay attention. If crying and sorrows help, even better. Now what if sorrows distract us from God? That’s a nasty sorrow. Having a sorrow that does not cause a person to pay attention to God and which distances him from God is very bad. This doesn’t mean having sorrows. It means paying attention, and we should gain this ability.
O God, help us to leave this holy Month as people who are attentive. There were times when we paid attention to other things besides You. Especially if we have enjoyed them too - very bad! “I ask for Your forgiveness for every pleasure other than remembering You.” [Imam Sajjad (as), Al-Dhakirin Supplication] God doesn’t want anything from His servant. He says, “Just pay attention to Me.” God gives everything to His servant. He’s not stingy at all. God doesn’t want anything. God doesn’t like negligence.
During the days and nights of the holy month of Ramadan, it is by being attentive that we benefit. How good it is to recite the Qur’an while being attentive. How good it is to pray while being attentive. Do your work while being attentive. Do your work, but your heart should be with God.

This is the root of all sadness, unrest, anxiety, and depression!
God dislikes a person who acts indifferently towards God’s Kindness. For example, a verse says, “Call on Me and I will answer you.”(Qur’an, 40:60) This is a display of kindness. “Call on Me and I will answer you.” Immediately, the Almighty God says in this same verse, “Those who are too proud to worship Me shall enter Hell utterly abject.” I’m telling you My dear to call on Me and I will answer you. A person says, “Ok, later.” God calls this being too proud to worship.
Do you know what the punishment of Hell is for? It is not for some rules that you didn’t obey! Is God like a policeman or the rules for driving?! No! Hell is for being bold against someone who is kind! This brings punishment. The Imam (‘a) has sworn that, “People won’t be saved from their sins unless they confess to them.” Say what your problem is. Have your realized it? If you’ve realized it, I’ll save you.
Now we want to say, “God we have a problem. Our problem is that we haven’t believed in Your Kindness. We have no understanding about Your Mercy, and we don’t pay attention or benefit from it. My whole life has been spent being indifferent about Your Kindness. All of my concerns are due to being indifferent about Your Kindness. All of my depression, all of my attachments to things, are due to being indifferent about Your Kindness.” An Arabic poem says, “Your sin is from within, which no sin can be compared with.” How should I repent from this?
I live without understanding Your Kindness! I am not sure that You are kind and will give my sustenance. I don’t work in order to create something, because of Your order, and for Your satisfaction! I say, “I should work; otherwise, I’ll stay hungry. What are you saying?!” My life is based on not believing in Your Kindness. I argue with this person and that person due to not believing in Your Kindness. I think they can take something from me.
I am jealous due to not believing in Your Kindness. I think someone else has taken my share. God says, “I have kept your share. Why are your jealous? Forget them!” I feel a lack of affection due to not believing in Your Kindness. I feel lonely due to not believing in Your Kindness. I go after worthless entertainments because I don’t believe in Your Kindness to be able to enjoy Your Kindness. I go somewhere else to enjoy. I don’t believe in Your Kindness; otherwise, I would have become a good person.
What will happen if we believe in God’s Kindness? Suddenly we will see all of God’s actions to be due to His Kindness. When we look at the stars, we will start crying. When we look at the mountains, plains, and deserts, we will start crying. When we see a child, we will start crying. When we see an old man hunched over and walking with a cane, we will start crying. God! You love all of these. You have created all of them. You give sustenance to all of them. When we see the birds flying, we will start crying. We will live!
Our problem is that we haven’t believed in Your Kindness. We have no understanding about Your Mercy, and we don’t pay attention or benefit from it. I don’t believe in Your Kindness; otherwise, I would have become a good person.

What does God look like
“Have you seen God?” Who likes to see God, sense Him, and live with Him? Where is God so that I can see Him, find Him, smell Him, and fall in love with Him? No one says to believe in a God Who can’t be seen. No one says to fall in love with a God Who can’t be seen. Is it possible to fall in love with such a God? What should I love? Whoever wants to see God, he can only see Him in one situation. Look at God as the examiner in your life.
There is no need for you to see an object or imagine Him in your imagination. Just pay attention to this fact that God is testing you. As soon as a problem occurs, ask God, “God, is it a test?” Talk to Him! He is talking to you through the language of testing. I swear to God you’ll understand His behaviour. You’ll understand His smiling and frowning. You will understand His pouting and reconciliation. You’ll understand from which of your actions He has become happy. You’ll understand why He loves you. You’ll understand how much He loves you. Then, when you start praying, you’ll understand to Whom you are talking! There is Someone in front of you!
God says, “You don’t need to see Me. I work with you. Understand that whatever happens to you from morning until night is Me talking to you in the language of incidents.” As soon as someone is kind to you, say, “God, You wanted someone to be kind to me?”
If you look, you’ll understand the reason. In the beginning you won’t. You’ll say, “God, You wanted someone to be kind to me? Why? I don’t understand. But You tested me!” When someone frowns at you, say, “God, You wanted someone to frown at me? Had I become rude? Was I arrogant?” He’ll easily talk to you. He’ll talk to you even better than your friends do. He’ll become your companion. You’ll start loving Him.
Actually, I didn’t ask you a question. And, you didn’t say anything about it. I don’t know how I’m talking, or I should say who I’m talking to. My friends, answer a question. Do you believe that each incident, which happens around us from morning until night, is accidental? Yes? Please, everyone answer. Does everyone say no? Is it accidental? Were they all designed by God? “Yes!” All of them? Do you believe that? Why were they designed? To have fun? For us to circle around ourselves? Are all of them tests, or not? “Yes!” What good answers you give!
Now, another question. Do we look at all of the incidents, which happen from morning until night, as tests? Good! May I be sacrificed for you. You’re seeing it yourself. Then he says, “Sir, what should I do to pay attention to God in praying?” “My dear, you can’t pay attention to God.”
He says, “I’m constantly distracted.” Have you ever seen God? Have you lived with Him for even two days? They have even stated the number in the traditions. If you live like this for forty days, everything around you will talk to you. The ground and the sky will talk to you!
Living with God means that you understand the language of God’s tests. Look what He wants from you at each moment. Look! What does He want from you now? He brings up an incident. Suddenly your wife gets upset and grumbles. Look at God and ask, “Is my capacity supposed to be tested?” Your friend invites you to sin. Look at God, “God, is it a test? I can’t tolerate it.” Cry right then. Say, “God, I swear to Husayn (‘a) I can’t tolerate it. Don’t send these friends. Send other friends. Send friends who take me to Medina and Karbala.” Say this a few times. The next week one of your friends will come and tell you, “I’m going to Karbala. Will you come with me?” Look at God and say, “God, how quickly You hear me!”
Have you ever seen God? Have you lived with Him for two days? They have even stated the number in the traditions. If you live like this for forty days, everything around you will talk to you. The ground and the sky will talk to you!

Sins of the Mind
Friends, there are some sins, which are forgiven quickly. There are some sins, which aren’t even counted, to need to be forgiven. There are some sins, which if counted, will be forgiven very quickly. There are some sins, which they are very hard about! At least for those sins, deeply ask for God’s forgiveness! Sins of the mind.
I said they are not easily forgiven. But, some of the sins of the mind aren’t forgiven at all! A tradition says, “God forgives all sins except for one sin, which is done in the mind.” What is that sin? Adultery? Stealing? Killing? No, He forgives these. A sin, which God doesn’t forgive, is the sin of being suspicious about God.
This person is unable to control his mind. It constantly comes into his mind that God won’t forgive him or her. God will say, “Ok, so no way! I won’t forgive this apparently little sin! You could have controlled your mind! You’re unable to control your heart! Whatever you did in the past! But, you can control your mind!” God, every moment that I became suspicious about You, You became very angry. I was wrong. Forgive me.
The Almighty God told the prophet David, “O David! The daughter of ‘so and so’ is at your level in Heaven.” The Prophet David (‘a) said, “I want to see who she is that she is at the same level with her prophet!?” He went and asked her about her actions. She talked about them. He asked, “How do you live? How do you worship?” Her answers were very normal! He asked, “How do you feel when doing these? What do you think about God? What is your intention?” See her answer. She said, “Any changes that God made in my situation, I never became suspicious about God at all. I said, ‘This was surely better for me.’” The Prophet David (‘a) said, “Your good thoughts about God have caused you to be at the level of the prophets.”
“I never thought badly about God. If I want to state this simply, even when God brought hardships for me, I didn’t think badly about Him. I said, ‘This was surely better for me.’” “Your good thoughts about Almighty God have caused you to be at the same level of the prophet of your time.”
No one should think badly about God! Some of the sins of the mind aren’t forgiven at all! A tradition says, “God forgives all sins except for one sin, which is done in the mind.” No one should think badly about God!

No one should think badly about God! Some of the sins of the mind aren’t forgiven at all! A tradition says, “God forgives all sins except for one sin, which is done in the mind.” No one should think badly about God!

The Strategic Role of a Bad Trait
Sometimes there is only one bad trait, but it causes a person to go to Hell. Very simple. It makes a society wretched. This means this evil has a strategic role. Some evils in general have a strategic role. For example, jealousy is strategic.
Amru Aas’s son narrated, “Once, I was sitting in the Mosque. The Prophet of God (s) said, ‘Whoever wants to look at a person that will go to Heaven, look at this old man who will enter now. He will definitely go to Heaven.’”
Amru Aas’s son was a sensitive and astute person. He wondered about him?! He was young. He came to the old man’s house and said, “I have had an argument with my father and don’t have a place. Will you let me stay in your house?” The old man accepted.
He stayed there for three days and watched him day and night. He saw that he was a regular person. He couldn’t find anything special in him! He prayed, slept, ate, worked, etc. He didn’t recite the Qur’an or fast in a special way.
After three days, he told the old man, “I’m sorry. I lied that I said I had an argument with my father. I wanted to watch you closely to see how you are. And I saw that you are a very normal person.” The old man responded, “Was I supposed to be abnormal?” He replied, “The Prophet (s) said that you will go to Heaven. You have something that we don’t.” The old man replied, “That’s very kind of the Prophet to say so. I don’t know.” He asked, “Talk some about your mood and work.”
The old man replied, “I am like ‘this and that.’” Suddenly the old man said, “If God gives a virtue to anybody, it isn’t hard for me.” I say, ‘How nice. Good for him. How beautiful.’” Amru Aas’s son said, “This is what we are unable to tolerate.” I am unable to tolerate for God to give something to someone with no reason. I say, “What about me?!”
Some traits are strategic. Like the trait of jealousy. Actually, what is the first negative trait that is born in a human being? Jealousy starts from the age of three. It bothers the child too. You should have children very close in age, not very close, at least three years between them, so that this child feels jealous, becomes bothered, and learns to pass on it. You vaccinate him or her.
“This is how it is! You have come into this world to pass the test of jealousy. With your small brother or sister, see how it is. Feel what Cain, Talha, Zubayr, Mu’awiah, and Umar Sa’d felt. The story started from here. Fight! Fight with your jealousy my little one.” Let your child practice and you help him or her. This is the way it is. Is it possible for God not to tell us to work on such a strategic trait like jealousy every day? Is it possible?
What part of the Qur’an is obligatory to recite every day? Chapter ‘Hamd.’ “(Lord), guide us to the right path, the path of those to whom You have granted blessings.” (Qur’an 1:6-7) You didn’t feel bad?! God has granted them blessings. What about you? “No, guide me to their path. It’s not a problem that He has granted them blessings. I’m not jealous.” Good job! Good job! “…the path of those to whom You have granted blessings,” means that I’m not jealous. Actually, I’m humble in another way too. Not only I’m not jealous or miserly, but I’m humble in another way too. What is that? “Guide me to their path.”
Jealousy is the basic theme of God’s test about religion. Guardianship shows itself there. One of the miracles of our religion is the religious mourning ceremonies for Aba Abdillah al-Husayn, which work on our most basic, strategic, bad trait. In each meeting, your jealousy towards the “Guardians” will be struck down so that you won’t become like Cain. It brings us out from being like Cain.
When they talk about Abel’s tragedies, your heart softens and warms so that you won’t become Cain. May I be sacrificed for Husayn (‘a) and his children that they were all beaten so much to create this humbleness in us. You will see on the Day of Judgment how much Husayn (‘a) has struggled for us. This was God’s design! This Able (Husayn) that we burn for helps us not to become Cain.

[Clip] God, why do You take it to Yourself | Agha Ali Reza Panahian Dec.04 2019 Farsi Sub English

God, why do You take it to Yourself?
When we go to a doctor and he gives us a prescription for a very fatal disease, if we don’t do what he says, we won’t constantly apologize to the doctor. If we apologize to him once, he’ll say, “This doesn’t have anything to do with me.” He’ll certainly say this. He says, “You don’t need to apologize to me.” But, the Almighty God has brought Himself into the middle of human beings’ lives.
I love you more than your mother does! God has created this world in an orderly manner. Look at the universe. In this world, which God has created orderly, He has given will, authority, and freedom to human beings. This human being makes mistakes and does misdeeds. It’s strange that God has called this sinning. “God, I have ruined myself, ‘I have harmed myself.’ (Qur’an 28:16) I have bothered myself. Why do You take it to Yourself?”
A person has put his hand on a butcher block and cut his fingers with a cleaver. “We have harmed ourselves. When we harm ourselves, why do You somehow take it to Yourself?” Why did the Almighty God make the schedule that He gave us with commands, in such a way that any misdeeds we do in this schedule, are against God’s commands? God says, “If you make these mistakes, you have disobeyed me. When you harm yourself, I get upset with you. The things that are in your favour, I order you to do.” God talks with insistence and fervour. He keeps taking people to Heaven or Hell (in the Qur’an)! His talks are totally promotional. “God why do You do this?!”
He replies, “Don’t you understand why I’m upset? I love you more than your mother!” “God, even if You don’t command me, I still have to do these. Why do You involve Your commands in this?” Isn’t this due to the severity of God’s fondness towards His servants? What other philosophy could it have? What is Holy War (Jihad)? Defend yourself against the enemy. What is ethics? You should have a good behaviour. It’s strange that if we don’t do these, God calls them sins. “You have sinned against My command!” “God, why do You get upset when I beat myself?” Doesn’t this show God’s severe fondness towards us? For example, God forbid, is God a mean king that has said something in general and if you don’t listen, He’ll get upset, rage and punish you severely! It is not like this at all. Why should God need this? It’s only due to the severity of His affection. It doesn’t have any other reason.
