The secretary of the International Conference on Global Alliance against Terrorism for a Just Peace (GAATJP) warns of adverse consequences of spreading terrorism, insisting on the serious threat it poses to the world.
“Despite all the progress, human life is exposed to the threats of complicating terrorism and war which have influence on various aspects,” Davoud Ameri said Saturday.
He underscored the importance of exchanging information among the elite and public opinion as the way to resolve the issue of terrorism, IRNA reported.
“Fight against terrorism will bear fruit only through respecting religions, culture and destiny of human beings,” the GAATJP secretary pointed out.
Ameri conveyed the message of peace and friendship of the Iranian nation to the world and expressed hope that the conference would draw a new plan for fighting terrorism.
The two-day International Conference on Global Alliance against Terrorism for a Just Peace kicked off in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Saturday with over 100 foreign and 300 local experts attending the summit.
Participants engage mainly in exchanging views on ways to uproot terrorism.
The theoretical principles of terrorism, the typology of terrorism, coordination of attempts to fight terror, policies adopted by different governments to combat terrorism, real objectives of combating terrorism, as well as terrorist groups, cultural terrorism, cyber-terrorism, media terrorism and the role of media in fighting terror are among main topics on the agenda of the event.
Tehran also hosted four exhibitions of posters and caricatures on 'a just peace,' as well as photo exhibitions of the families of victims of terror attacks in Iran and the Middle East ahead of the GAATJP on Friday

People remember what happened in Karbala as they did hundreds of years ago. Around 680 A.D, Grandson of Islam's prophet and Shia's third Imam, Hussein Ibn-Ali, may peace be upon him, was invited by the people of Kufa to come to them as their Imam. Imam Hossein in a group of seventy two people consisting of his family, friends and supporters were attacked and martyred by Yazid the first, the Omayyad Caliph's, army made of thousands of soldiers. Yazid attacked him because Imam Hossein refused to recognize him as a Caliph. One of the tools that has helped us remember this event is Tazieh, a play that tries to recreates what Yazid did to Imam Hossein and his followers in Ashura. Today the whole world knows about it since UNESCO recognized it as national Iranian art last year.
The event is just more than a condolence theatre for the artists. It is very personal.
Other people had different reasons for coming to see the event.
Taazieh is a Shia-Iranian event that is aimed to revive the memory of Imam Hossein and his followers being slain by Yazid I on Ashura, tenth of Moharam.

The United States arms sales to the Middle Eastern countries will eventually boomerang on the US, a political analyst tells Press TV.
His comment comes as the US has recently finalized a 30-billion-dollar deal with Saudi Arabia as part of a 60-billion-dollar contract, first unveiled in October 2010.
The US has also signed a deal to sell about USD 3.5 billion worth of arms to the United Arab Emirates.
“The sales of such high technology to unstable regimes in the Middle East region such as Saudi Arabia or United Arab Emirates, is something that is going to backfire on the United States,” said Nader Mokhtari political commentator and journalist.
“You have to take into account that these countries are not run via political operatives like other countries,” the Tehran-based analyst said, adding that they are run 'like family-run businesses.'
The US has demonstrated support for popular uprisings in the Middle East while at the same time propping up their authoritarian regimes by selling them billions of dollars worth of various types of weaponry.
In its Yearbook 2010, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) stated that the US accounts for 43 percent of world military spending and 30 percent of global arms exports, making it the world's leader in both categories.
US arms sales to the Persian Gulf countries has reached USD 123 billion, with a USD 67.8 billion package for Saudi Arabia, USD 35.6 billion for the United Arab Emirates, USD 12.3 billion for Oman and USD 7.1 billion for Kuwait.

As a brief introduction, Nahj-ul-Balagha is a collection of Sermons, Letters and miscellaneous Sayings left as a memorial from the Amir-al-Momeneen Ali (as). This book is divided into three sections of Sermons, Letters and short Sayings. Some of the sayings have been selected from the Sermons and Letters.
Late Syed Radi compiled Nahj-ul-Balagha over a thousand years ago and before he made the efforts these jewels were scattered all over the Islamic literature. Other scholars were in the process of doing the same thing, but God gave Syed Radi the opportunity and the will to finish this enormous task. According to him certain words and expressions of Nahj-ul-Balagha are matchless in human expression by eloquent writers, Islamic thinkers and even the adversaries of Islam. These people have always accepted that some statements of the Nahj-ul-Balagha are superior to human expression and beyond the ordinary level of the human being's knowledge at that time. We are indebted to the endeavors and initiatives of Syed Radi who left the Nahj-ul-Balagha for us
Sermon 1: Praise is due to Allah whose worth cannot be described by speakers, whose bounties cannot be counted by calculators and whose claim (to obedience) cannot be satisfied by those who attempt to do so, whom the height of intellectual courage cannot appreciate, and the divings of understanding cannot reach; . . .Cont. .in next session InshAllah

[07 Aug 2012] West plans to take over Middle East nations Analyst - English
Syrian security forces have clashed with foreign-sponsored insurgents in several neighborhoods in the country's largest city of Aleppo as part of their efforts to clear the city of the armed groups.
The Syrian government forces entered the al-Sakhour area inside Aleppo and arrested between 200 and 250 insurgents, 70 of whom are believed to be foreigners.
Meanwhile, the Syrian armed gangs attacked a traffic police station in central Aleppo on Tuesday and opened fire on the Syrian police forces, leading to casualties.
The foreign-backed insurgents receive arms and support from several Western and regional states, including Saudi Arabia.
Many people, including security forces, have been killed in the unrest in Syria that began in March 2011.
This is while the United Nations has pulled its observers out of Aleppo due to, what it called, the worsening situation in the city. Almost 20 UN observers returned to the mission's headquarters in Damascus.
Damascus says, "outlaws, saboteurs, and insurgents" are behind the unrest in the country, while the opposition accuses the security forces of killing the protesters.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed insurgents are foreign nationals.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Dan Dicks, founder of Press for Truth, from Toronto, to further discuss the issue.

Koobideh Kabob Recipe:
This is sister\'s Sameera and Sepeedeh\'s recipe
I made some changes in the recipe on the video!
8 Servings
Ingredients:
2 lb of the ground lamb or beef (my mom says it would be best if you have a mix of both types of meat)
2 onions grated and strained (mom says its really important to make sure there is no onion juice. Squeeze all the juice as much as possible before adding)
1 large egg (beaten)
5 medium tomatoes to be used for later when grilling or baking
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper tablespoon (optional)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, mom adds it in sometimes. Also if you wanna add fresh garlic, ground 2 cloves into meat mixture.)
Directions:
Mix meat, onions, egg, salt and pepper(s) wellz Make sure to massage it throughly. Leave in the refrigerator overnight (or for several hours but its best to leave it for longer).
Press the meat around long, thick metal skewers. This is the difficult part. Make sure not to put too much meat on each skewer. It\'s taken lots of practice for my mom to perfect how much meat to put on each one. Make sure the skewers are thick as well. If they\'re too thin, the meat won\'t hold. Thread whole tomatoes on another skewer. Barbeque each side for about five minutes, turning frequently. If skewers are not available or barbequing is not possible, kabab-e koobideh can be shaped into long, thin portions on aluminum foil and grilled at high temperature in the oven.
Serve with hot Saffron rice or on middle-eastern bread. If serving with rice, add a little sumac on top.
This dish goes really well with the rice dish, so make sure you check out this link!

Britain\'s Secret Intelligence Service-- commonly known as the MI6, wants more spies to be sent to Afghanistan.
MI6 has called for reinforcements from other intelligence agencies. It says when British troops withdraw from Afghanistan next year, the country will become an \"intelligence vacuum\" where terrorists will pose an increased threat to Britain. There are around 8000 British military personnel in Afghanistan now and the number will fall to 5200 by the end of this year. Britain is to fully withdraw its military forces from Afghanistan as part of a NATO pullout by the end of 2014.

Saudi Arabia says it plans to make a major shift in its dealings with the United States.
The Saudi intelligence chief says Riyadh\'s ties with Washington have been deteriorating for a while over several issues. A source close to Bandar bin Sultan says Riyadh\'s new stance is in protest at Washington\'s inaction over the war in Syria and the issue of Palestine. He\'s also voiced concern about the U-S growing closer to Iran. Bandar bin Sultan also criticized Washington for failing to back his country when it deployed forces to crush the popular uprising in Bahrain. The source close to the Saudi prince has hinted that the planned change in policy would have wide-ranging consequences, including for arms purchases and oil sales.

Saudi authorities have warned against a campaign to give women the right to drive in the conservative kingdom.
The warning comes as Saudi female activists are gearing up against a long-standing driving ban, with more defiant women already getting behind the wheel. More than 50 videos showing Saudi women driving have been posted online over the past two weeks. A video, which went viral on the Internet this month, shows a fully veiled woman driving in the capital Riyadh as passing drivers give her a thumbs-up. Under the slogan, Women\'s Driving is a Choice, female activists have called for a demonstration on Saturday against the ban in the country. One Saudi woman by the name of Manal al-Sharif, who was put behind bars a couple of year ago for posting a video of herself while driving, says Saudi women are determined to drive.

U-S Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman says she has asked Congress to put new sanctions against Iran on hold.
Sherman -- who is also the main U-S negotiator in the negotiations on Iran\'s nuclear energy program -- says the pause should be taken to see whether talks with Iran can gain traction. The remarks come days after Iran and the five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany held a new round of talks in Geneva to resolve issues related to Tehran\'s nuclear energy program. Over the past few years, the U-S Congress has imposed several rounds of illegal unilateral sanctions on Iran to pressure the country to halt the uranium enrichment component of its nuclear energy program.

A territorial dispute between China and Japan seems to be far from over. In the latest development, Beijing has sent four coastguard vessels to the disputed islands in the East China Sea.
The move follows Beijing\'s mention of war after Tokyo approved a plan to shoot down Chinese drones if they fly over Japan\'s airspace. China has threatened to take firm countermeasures, if Japan fires on its drones. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has accused China of trying to change the status quo in the region by force, adding that\'s why Tokyo is expected to take a leadership role over regional security issues. The relations between the two Asian powerhouses have been strained particularly over a group of disputed islands-- known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. Both countries claim sovereignty rights over the uninhabited resource-rich islands that are currently under Tokyo\'s control.

US President Barack Obama calls on Senate to delay imposing new sanctions on Iran, rejecting criticism by senators that Washington has not been tough on Iran. White House spokesman Jay Carney says that Obama has met top Democrats and Republicans from the Senate Armed Services, Intelligence and Foreign Relations committees and urged them to delay any decision on new Iran sanctions. As Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are slated to hold fresh round of nuclear talks in Geneva on Wednesday, Obama tell the senators that new sanctions should not be enacted during the current negotiations. Meanwhile, a group of senators wrote to Secretary of State John Kerry, calling on the administration to make a tougher line on anti-Iran sanctions. The senators warned that easing the sanctions would not force Iran to abandon its pursuit of an alleged nuclear weapon. Obama says the proposed deal would permit a modest lifting of the economic sanctions on Iran.

[06 Dec 2013] US senators ask intelligence officials to determine effect of new Iran sanctions - English

Weeks after Iran signed a landmark deal with the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, more signs emerge that some members of the Congress are already preparing to torpedo it. Several key senators have asked intelligence officials to examine whether a new set of sanctions would derail the nuclear talks with Iran.
The request was made by the chairmen of the Senate\'s banking, intelligence, and armed services committees, and the reply should be ready in less than a week. The senators have also asked intelligence officials to provide briefings to the chamber -- once every 45 days starting on February first -- on whether Iran is complying with the deal. Some members of Congress are pushing for a new list of sanctions against Iran. But the White House is calling on senators to hold off. It says new sanctions against Iran would make Washington appear to be acting in bad faith in its nuclear outreach to Tehran.

The United States is said to be backing away from a December 31 deadline for signing the controversial security deal with Afghanistan.
American and Afghan officials say the Obama administration is going to wait in order to strike the deal that will allow it to keep its troops in Afghanistan beyond the 2014 withdrawal deadline. The decision, however, is being viewed as an embarrassing turn following weeks of threats by US officials that a complete withdrawal is possible if President Hamid Karzai refuses to sign the pact. The Afghan president came under additional pressure after NATO chief urged him to sign the deal with the US or there will be no agreement with the military alliance either. Karzai has warned that he will not allow continued foreign presence if it means more bombs and civilian killings.
