Lebanon condemns Quran burning plan
Lebanese President Michel Sleiman has condemned a US church\'s plan to burn copies of the Muslim holy book to mark the ninth anniversary of 9/11 attacks.
Speaking on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Sleiman said on Wednesday that the controversial decision contradicts Christian teachings and humanitarian values such as love and respect, a Press TV correspondent reported.
\"The president condemns the announcement of a religious group in the United States of its intention to openly burn copies of the Quran,\" read a statement released by the president\'s office.
Burning the Quran \"is a clear contradiction of the teachings of the three Abrahamic religions and of dialogue among the three faiths,\" Christianity, Islam and Judaism, AFP quoted the Christian president as saying.
Pastor Terry Jones, who is part of the Dove World Outreach Center, a small evangelical Christian church in Gainesville, Florida, with an anti-Islam philosophy, has threatened to burn some 200 copies of the Quran on Saturday evening, the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
The threat has drawn international condemnation with Muslims launching protest rallies around the globe.
US officials have also denounced the plan but no legal measure has been taken yet to block the blasphemous move.
The US State Department also called the move \"un-American,\" while the US Attorney General Eric Holder called the idea \"idiotic and dangerous.\"
EU Foreign Affairs Chief Catherine Ashton condemned the planned act, while Arab League chief Amr Mussa dubbed Jones a \"fanatic\".
The Vatican council has blasted the Florida church\'s scheme as an \"outrageous and grave gesture against a book considered sacred by a religious community.\"
Many Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Indonesia have already held massive demonstrations against the US church\'s intent.

Senior cleric Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani welcomes the Iranian president\\\'s UN address in which he called for an independent probe into the 9/11 incident.
Tehran\\\'s interim Friday Prayers leader questioned the angry response of members of Washington\\\'s delegate, who left the UN General Assembly session, to a call that \\\"many in the world have welcomed.\\\"
\\\"Iran\\\'s argument means that your word should not be the only one dominating the world because the international community and even the American people no longer buy these words,\\\" he was quoted by IRNA as saying.
In his September 22 speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad raised doubts about the credibility of Washington\\\'s account of the source and nature of the attacks indicating that a \\\"very powerful and complex terrorist group, able to successfully cross all layers of the American intelligence and security, carried out the attack.\\\"
Ahmadinejad said despite the cited claim many throughout the world believe that \\\"some segments within the US government orchestrated the attack to reverse the declining American economy and its grips on the Middle East in order also to save the Zionist regime [of Israel].\\\"
\\\"Nations welcome a probe into this incident, but you accused others with [your] incoherent talk and blamed them for the attacks and massacred and violated the innocent people of Afghanistan,\\\" Ayatollah Emami Kashani said, addressing the US government.
\\\"Considering what you have done, no one trusts you anymore; you have numerous prisons in which you torture detainees,\\\" the cleric charged.
Ayatollah Emami Kashani further downplayed Western sanctions against Iran, saying such measures could not shake the Iranian people and government and will yield no result other than the \\\"awakening of the Iranian nation and elites.\\\"
The prominent cleric attributed the recent announcement of Iran\\\'s self-sufficiency in gasoline production and the progress achieved in the field of nanotechnology to a scientific movement triggered by sanctions.

Leader: Enemies target people, religion
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has warned against enemy plots to target the Iranian people and their religion.
\\\\\\\"Enemies of the Islamic Revolution who intend to inflict damage on the revolution have two main targets, including the religion of the people and their devotion to the revolution,\\\\\\\" said Ayatollah Khamenei in an address to a huge crowd of enthusiastic people in the holy city of Qom on Tuesday.
The Leader added that enemies are well aware of the fact that the Islamic Revolution could not resist against their plots if it were not based on religion.
\\\\\\\"An establishment which is based on religion will not yield to pressure of enemies and bullying powers,\\\\\\\" Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader reiterated that the Iranian nation has always supported the Islamic Revolution and said the Islamic establishment could not resist against enemies if the Iranians did not have a complete presence in all scenes and if there were a rift between the people and the country\\\\\\\'s officials.
The Leader pointed to the presence of 40 million Iranians in last year\\\\\\\'s presidential election, saying it vaccinated the Islamic Revolution against social and political microbes and increased the people\\\\\\\'s insight.
He emphasized that the country\\\\\\\'s enemies failed to create a rift between the Iranian nation and the officials of the Islamic establishment.
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that enemies were irked by the presence of 40 million people in the election, adding that all their efforts in this regard failed.
The Leader downplayed sanctions against the Islamic Republic over its nuclear energy program and said sanctions were aimed at exerting pressure on the nation to cause the separation of the people from the Islamic establishment.
\\\\\\\"By God\\\\\\\'s grace, sanctions will have no impact on the Iranian nation,\\\\\\\" he said. \\\\\\\"Today, Iranians are moving towards a bright future with more progress and will thwart enemies\\\\\\\' plots.\\\\\\\"
The Leader said enemies are following up two main issues which include Islam without clergymen and Islam without politics and added enemies know that clerics play an effective role in the lives of people.
He further added that the country\\\\\\\'s enemies have raised doubts about religious values in an attempt to weaken the pillars of people\\\\\\\'s faith and continued, \\\\\\\"Enemies intend to disappoint people with the country\\\\\\\'s officials and sow the seed of pessimism.\\\\\\\"
Ayatollah Khamenei criticized those who are spreading rumors about the Iranian government and its achievements, saying, \\\\\\\"Such moves are not in line with the interests of the country\\\\\\\'s future.\\\\\\\"
He further urged the Iranian nation to maintain national unity and strengthen its solidarity with the three branches of the state.

Jesus, Son of Mary, a Great Prophet in Islam
Muslims believe in Jesus as a Prophet and believe that his birth is a miracle. Indeed the Prophet Mohammed commended a unprecedented praise upon Jesus as a Prophet of Islam. Muslims believe Jesus, son of Mary, will return to earth to bring about justice and truth, before the hour and the end of life in this world. The Qur\'an describes Jesus as the Word of God which was delivered to Mary, daughter of Imran. The Qur\'an states that Jesus preached to all of mankind and that God created him as he did Adam, without a father, and that his mother Mary was chosen by God for the miracle birth of Jesus. Jesus was chosen by the Lord to be a Prophet of his people, and supported many miracles such as the of the revival of the dead, with the permission of God, amongst others.
Revealed to him was the Gospel, and he was supported by numerous miracles from God: The first was that he was born of a mother without a father, and he spoke in the cradle, and that he healed the sick, and created birds from clay, all with the permission of God. Jesus, Son of Mary, as not crucified nor killed, but was raised to God.
That is why Muslims respect Jesus [ peace be upon him] and see themselves as the people closest to him and the first believers in his authority as a Prophet.

The energy problem is one of the most important issues that science and technology has to solve. Nobel laureate and Berkeley Lab Director Steven Chu proposes an aggressive research program to transform the existing and future energy systems of the world away from technologies that emit greenhouse gases. Berkeley Lab's Helios Project concentrates on renewable fuels, such as biofuels, and solar technologies, including a new generation of solar photovoltaic cells and the conversion of electricity into chemical storage to meet future demand.

The Qur'an describes Jesus as the Word of God which was delivered to Mary, daughter of Imran. The Qur'an states that Jesus preached to all of mankind and that God created him as he did Adam, without a father, and that his mother Mary was chosen by God for the miracle birth of Jesus.

Renowned Jewish-American scholar Noam Chomsky says US invasion of Afghanistan was illegal since to date there is no evidence that al-Qaeda has carried out the 9/11 attacks.
"The explicit and declared motive of the [Afghanistan] war was to compel the Taliban to turn over to the United States, the people who they accused of having been involved in World Trade Center and Pentagon terrorist acts. The Taliban…they requested evidence…and the Bush administration refused to provide any," the 81-year-old senior academic made the remarks on Press TV's program a Simple Question.
"We later discovered one of the reasons why they did not bring evidence: they did not have any."
The political analyst also said that nonexistence of such evidence was confirmed by FBI eight months later.
"The head of FBI, after the most intense international investigation in history, informed the press that the FBI believed that the plot may have been hatched in Afghanistan, but was probably implemented in the United Arab Emirates and Germany."
Chomsky added that three weeks into the war, "a British officer announced that the US and Britain would continue bombing, until the people of Afghanistan overthrew the Taliban... That was later turned into the official justification for the war."
"All of this was totally illegal. It was more, criminal," Chomsky said.
The 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan was launched with the official objective of curbing militancy and bringing peace and stability to the country.
Nine years on, however, the American and Afghan officials admit that the country remains unstable and civilians continue to pay the heaviest price.

Retinal implants are able to partially restore the vision of people with particular forms of blindness caused by diseases such as macular degeneration or retinitis pigmentosa.
About 200,000 people worldwide have retinitis pigmentosa, and one in 10 people over the age of 55 have age-related macular degeneration.
The experimental chip has been tested on three men with astonishing results.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has praised the takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran by Iranian students in 1979.
Addressing students in the capital city of Tehran on Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei said the embassy takeover indicated the bravery of Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s revolutionary youth.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"This event symbolizes the bravery and courage of the young revolutionary generation against the authority of America because taking over the den of espionage destabilized US power... and brought America to its knees,\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" the Leader said.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"This fact should always remain in the historical memory of the Iranian nation, and especially the youth, that America never seeks ordinary relations with [other] countries... it seeks a master-servant relationship and the looting of the resources of [other] nations,\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader pointed to the sedition following the 2009 presidential election in Iran and said the plot was thwarted thanks to the effective presence of Iranian youth.

This is a ‘meccan’ surah. At takathur signifies, \"the contending among people for superiority in the amount of property or number of children and men.\" It keeps man heedless of the hereafter, having no time for spiritual life. It is reported that the people of Bani Abd Munaf, Bani Qu-asi and Bani Sahm had an inordinate craving for acquisition of more and more wealth and adherents or supporters. When once they dug up the graves of their followers to count even the dead to prove the superiority of one tribe over the other this surah was revealed. Rivalry in such things monopolises the attention of individuals and communities and leaves no time for higher purposes of life and spiritual attainments, therefore a clear warning is given in this verse for devotion of some time to spiritual attainments also. The Holy Prophet (saw) said that whoever recites this surah before going to sleep at night will be saved from the torments of the grave. If this surah is recited in faraa’idh prayers, the reciter will get the reward of a hundred martyrs. If recited in the nawafil prayers, he will get the reward of fifty martyrs. It is especially recommended to recite surah at-Takathur in the ‘Asr prayers and the person who does this remains under the protection of ALLAH (swt) until the day ends. Recitation of this surah is a cure from headaches. Another way of reciting salaat al-Wahshat (apart from the commonly known way) is to recite Ayatul Kursi once and surah al-Ikhlas twice after the Surah al-Hamd of the first rak’aat and then recite surah at-Takaathur ten times after the Surah al-Hamd of the second rak’aat.
