- Importance of pondering over why Allah(s.w.t) wants us to go all the way to Makkah for hajj.
- Explanation of Aayat 97 of Surah Aale Imran where Allah(s.w.t) mentions how it is a duty for a Muslim to go for hajj if he has the ability to do so.
- Once the Kaaba’s walls were erected, Allah(s.w.t) asked Prophet Ibrahim to call people for hajj so that they could witness the benefits for themselves.
- There are many benefits when we go for Hajj.
- Getting to network and meet other business traders from around the world.
- The most important benefits are the spiritual and social dimensions of Hajj.
- Hajj is a powerful way of recognizing who we are.
- We shed away all the artificial identities that we have whether it applies to our clothing or political and economic status.
- Everyone is dressed in 2 pieces of Ehram (white cloth) which is a dress that does not belong to any other nation.
- Realizing that no matter what race, colour, ethnicity background or status in society we come from, we are all just servants of Allah(s.w.t) and nothing else.
- Islam does not say that you should not love people of your own tribe, culture or language. Infact, that is part of our innate nature.
- Islam is against discrimination and prejudice amongst the believers on the basis of race, colour, culture or language.
- According to the 4th Imam we will be accountable in the eyes of Allah (s.w.t) when we start preferring our own kind even if they are evil over the righteous ones from another tribe.
- “Asabiya” (discrimanation/bias) is when you support your own people even if they are unjust and wrong.
- Mention of the words of Malcom X, on the impact that hajj had on him from a letter that he wrote to his wife.
- Islam is a religion that is colour-blind and is our identity as part of a global Ummah (nation).
- Inspite of millions of Muslims going for hajj, we don’t see any changes when it comes to unity and equality amongst believers.
- Example of the way the rich gulf state treats Muslims from other nations.
- This attitude still present amongst those known as the custodians of the “haramayn”.
- “Mawali” is the plural of the word “mawla” which means slave or client.
- In the pre Islamic era, a foreigner would not have security for himself, his life and his property unless he would be affiliated with a local tribe. He would be a “mawla” of the tribe.
- Islam abolished this but it was later revived again. Only the school of the Ahlulbayt opposed this concept.
- The “mawalis” were attracted to the Ahlulbayt because they did not differentiate between Arab or non Arab, master or slave and rich or poor.
- Narration of a story from the life of Imam Ali Raza (a.s) of when he asked all the workers and slaves to join him and eat dinner together.
- Mention of all the Imams whose mothers were from different parts of the world. 4 of them being from the African continent.
- Molana Sayyid Saeed Akhtar Rizvi was the pioneer in tabligh among the African people.
- Today Bilal Muslim mission is the pride of the community while it was not the case in the early days.

- Celebrating the birth anniversary of the 11th Imam.
- Mention of a Hadith from the 11th Imam, two fundamental qualities of a believer, belief in Allah (s.w.t) and to benefit brethren in faith and humanity.
- Salaat and Zakaat always put together in the Quran as a symbol of the right of Allah (s.w.t) and the right of people.
- Lying to be the key to all evil.
- Allah(s.w.t) has given us all powers and the aql and wisdom to control the powers in order to find and stay in the middle ground.
- Mention of another Hadith of the 11th Imam on consequences of exceeding limits:
Exceeding in generosity will make one extravagant.
Exceeding in exercising caution will make one coward.
Exceeding in economizing will make one miser.
Exceeding in courage will make one foolish.
- Examples taken from the Quran on not exceeding limits.
- In Health issue (7;31), not to exceed in eating and drinking.
- In giving charity (17;29), not to have a hand that never extends in giving nor to extend it totally so that you became needy yourself.
- In the social political level (8;60-61), to be a strong nation and community so that the enemy does not consider you weak and oppress you but if there is an opening for peace, incline towards it.
- Explanation on why it is important for us to learn the laws of the land and the regulation of the CRA.
- Importance of engaging with the system for a Muslim living in Canada.

[Friday Sermon] The 3 Alifs to Live By | How to Approach Our Desires - Maulana Syed Muhammad Rizvi | English

- Importance of reminding ourselves of the mission of Imam Hussain (a.s).
- In a will to his brother, Muhammad Hanafia, Imam Hussain (a.s) explains the purpose of his actions in 4 points:
-- He negates wrong motives towards himself knowing that people would try to portray him as having ulterior motives.
-- He then expresses what his purpose is, to seek reformation in the community of his grandfather.
-- He explains the method of the Islamic law that he is using: bidding people to do good and forbidding them from evil.
-- And lastly he confirms that what he is doing is continuing the path of his grand father and his father.
- Reform should be an ongoing process at an individual and collective level.
- Examples of reformation on a personal level: focusing on improving our prayers, reflections of our fasts, giving charity, reflection on our means of livelihood etc..
- Examples of reformation on a social level by taking lessons from Karbala: brotherhood and unity of fellow Muslims in spite of the diversity in race, colour, language and ethnic background, outlook towards Muslim community on a global level, outlook towards non-Muslim etc..
- Importance of responding to Imam Hussain’s(a.s) call by submitting our heart, ears, mind, eyes, opinions and desires to him.
- When our heart is longing for something that is not permissible then make the choice that Imam Hussain(a.s)would make.
- We are surrounded by different circles around us.
- Inner circle are the Shias of the Ahlulbayt.
- Bigger circle around it, is the Muslim community.
- Outer bigger circle is the humanity at large.
- 3 Alif to keep in mind when interacting which each circle of groups:
-- Ithaar which means to sacrifice. For the inner circle the expectation is to have willingness to sacrifice for one another.
-- Infaaq which means to be charitable. This needs to be applied towards the Muslim community at large.
-- Insaaf which means to be just. The minimum requirement towards the humanity at large is to be just towards them. That doesn’t mean you don’t need to be charitable towards them either.
- Ilm-ul Ghayb (knowledge of the unseen) is only given to the chosen ones by the grace of Allah.(s.w.t).
- Narration of the story of the thirst of Hur and his army to show that Imam Hussain(a.s) had ilm-e ghayb.
- Imam Hussain(a.s) did not ask Hur if he had come as a supporter or an enemy. He saw they were thirsty and he quenched their thirst. That’s called humanity. Yet he was denied water in Karbala.
- He used his ilm-e ghayb in order to guide others but he would never use it for his own benefit. That was his test and trial. He knew water would be stopped yet he did not fill extra water for his own self.
- He personally used less water then others. On the day of Ashura, the most thirsty person was Imam Hussain (a.s).
- We need to reflect and see how we treat one another.
- Importance for volunteers to realize that those who come for the commemoration are the guests of Imam Hussain(a.s) and the volunteer is the host on behalf of Imam Hussain(a.s). So they should treat the guests well.
- It’s the kindness that Imam Hussain (a.s) showed towards them, that eventually brought back Hur to Imam’s camp and he then attained martyrdom.

Description:

---------- The question is WHY DO WE PROTEST? ----------
* We PROTEST to announce disassociation from the ZALIMEEN
* We PROTEST to condemn oppression and give others the courage to condemn oppression
* We PROTEST to give courage to the oppressed that we are with them
* We PROTEST because if we do not, we will be considered amongst the Zalimeen (reference: Ziyarat e Ashura)
* We PROTEST to spread awareness in masses
* We PROTEST to put pressure on the Zalimeen and their supporters (it does make a difference)
* We PROTEST because it shows our strength
* We PROTEST because it unites us
* We PROTEST because it allows us to spread our ideology and our stances
* We PROTEST because it highlights an issue and brings others\' attention to it.
WE HAVE BEEN IN THE STATE OF PROTEST SINCE AFTER KARBALA. THIS IS HOW KARBALA HAS STAYED FRESH IN PEOPLE\'S MINDS AND SOULS.
---------- The REAL QUESTION is; IS PROTEST ENOUGH??? ----------
* The answer is NOOOOOOO.
* This is the bare minimum one can do. This is the first baby step.
* One must strive to fight against oppression in all forms.
* Evaluate your skills, energies, strengths, opportunities and see what you can do in addition.
* Discuss it with some brave, wise, ba-baseerat, senior brothers and ulama and see if it is in line with the teachings of Quran and Ahlulbayt (a.s).
* If it is, check to see if it applies in this time and age by looking at the direction that is being given by the Leader of the Muslim Ummah, Vali Amr Muslimeen.
Once it makes sense, thank Allah (s.w.t) and step forward to carry out your responsibilities. May Imam Al-Mahdi (a.t.f.s) guide us and show us the path.

Imam Khomeini (r.a) continued his struggle during his 15 years stay in Iraq. He was instructed by the government of Iraq to halt his involvement in Political involvement. Imam (r.a) replied that he is carrying out his religious obligation. He then migrated to France and continued his journey of awakening the Ummah. This documentary states some of the difficulties and pressure that the late Imam had to go through but his persistence and strong belief in Allah (s.w.t) helped him to stay steadfast.
The late Imam (r.a) and his movement is a lesson for us and all the Islamic scholars. May his soul rest in peace.
This movement of awakening started by Imam Khomeini (r.a) still continues under the leadership of our Leader, Wali Amr Muslimeen, Ayatullah Sayyed Ali Khamenei (h.a). This movement (nehzat) sets a stage for the reappearance of our Master and Maula Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s). May our lives be sacrificed for Imam Al-Hujja, Imam Sahib al Asr e Wazzaman, Baqiatullah, Imam Mahdi (a.s).
