The 30th juz has 34 meccan surahs and 3 madani surahs. We will focus on the themes of heaven and hell for the last episode of our podcast series. We pray we arrive in jannah a place of God’s mercy, proximity and closeness and not in hell which is distant from Allah and absent of Allah’s mercy. The hereafter is the fruits of the seeds which we planted in this world. In Surah an Naziat, Allah swt reminds us that this is the day in which human beings will see or be called to remember what it is that they have strived for. Heaven and Hell are the outcomes of what we have done in this world. It’s important to note that the pleasures of paradise and displeasures of hell are not similar to the ones we experience in this lower life. To enter paradise there is no easy answer but the simple thing to focus on is giving a preference to the next world over this one.

Juz 19 of 30 | Journeying our eyes through the Quran | Sister Fatemah Meghji | English

The 19th Juz consists of Surat al-Furqan (last 56 verses, The Criterion), Surat al-Shu’ara (227 verses, The poets) and Surat an-Naml (first 55 verses, The Ants) – all Meccan. The first two suras discuss the Quraish’s rejection of the Qur\'an, and their displeasure with the prophet. The root meaning of ‘Furqan’ is to split or fracture, and the Qur\'an is referred to as such because it differentiates/splits between good and evil. It provides the light in the darkness of our confusion, helping us to recognize the truth. Surat al Shu’ara further describes the incredible role the prophet has played in bringing to us this guidance, and how the people have still abandoned it.
The Qur\'an is complete in its divinity, its greatness the very proof of truth, and as revealed in the next Surat an-Naml, the Qur\'an is from God, the all-wise, and is the most tangible thing we have from Him. Approaching the nights of Qadr, we should ask ourselves if we truly embrace the Qur\'an as our criterion and pray for the ability to build our relationship with it so we don’t get counted amongst those who abandoned it.

==============================
We are at the end of one century and the start of a new century based on the Hijri solar calendar. Even if it wasn’t the beginning of a new century the changes in the world show that a long period of history has finished and the state of the world is changing.
Maybe we couldn’t have said this eight months ago. We couldn’t have said it last year. But now, with the events that we are witnessing in the world in recent months and in the period that we are in, everyone agrees that we are at a turn in history, an expression used by the dear Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
The last century can be called the century of the rise and fall of Western civilization. When I was a teenager, about fifty years ago, people used to say that we are at the end of the world. But this statement was retracted by the world\\\'s most prominent thinkers some time ago. Fukuyama said, “I was wrong when I said the end of history is liberal democracy. We don’t know where the end of history is because liberal democracy hasn’t been successful.”
What do you predict for this coming century? What do you suggest for its name? I have a suggestion for the name of this century. The coming century is bringing a civilization that will replace Western civilization. It will be an alternative civilization to Western civilization, according to many thinkers. Of course, they say this quietly and don’t announce it frequently on TV.
The alternative civilization will be the \\\"new Islamic civilization.\\\" The future civilization will be a \\\"Mahdavi [Imam Mahdi] civilization.\\\" Why am I saying this? Because no one in the world has any plans for the future! There is no thinker in the world to say that the future will be determined by socialism, or by liberal democracy, or to say the future will be determined by a certain lifestyle.
Yes, in terms of technology, they say technology will advance a lot! Yes, it is said that the world’s governments will be saved from dictatorial rulers. Yes, everyone is saying that a new chaos is being created in the world. Everyone says these things. But can the United Nations ensure order in the world? No. The previous century was the century of the rise and fall of Western civilization. The next century is the century of the new Islamic civilization.
It has been narrated from Imam Muhammad Baqir (as), “Our government will be the last government. Because after our government has been established, has succeeded and that great civilization ‘has been raised by God above all religions’ [Qur’an 61:9], no one will say, ‘If I had been in charge, I would have done that too.’” According to Imam Baqir (as), when that government is established no one will have anything else to say. A theoretical vacuum will have existed.
There is no voice in the universe talking about the future of the world for us to evaluate it to see if it is right or wrong! No one in the world says that in the future everyone will go toward Marxism, or that everyone will go toward a certain religion. Except for us. We are the only ones talking about the future! For forty years, we have been answering in religious forums. We have answered doubts. We have answered false claims. There is no longer a false claim in the world for us to answer! No one even has a claim for the future.
Only these minarets and mosques of yours talk about the future. Only you have hope for the future! This is a big celebration itself. And our community must be the one to explain the Mahdavi civilization. Every mosque, gathering, class or book that does not talk about the Mahdavi future of the world, has reduced its own value to nearly zero. Tell me about the future! What will the future be like?

Someone says, “I want to move away from our religious neighborhood. I’ll move to a nonreligious neighborhood where no one cares about what others do. When you get up in the morning, neighbors won’t talk about whether you pray. Here, our neighbor came and said, ‘Your light isn’t on in the mornings. Don’t you pray?!’ ‘That doesn’t have anything to do with you! Maybe we pray in the dark.’ Everyone is judging each other. In our city, everyone expects others. Everyone is attacking each other based on their imaginations.”
One of the factors that causes people to become infatuated with western culture is this. When they go to western countries, they see what we are discussing in these sessions. This is called “acknowledging people’s differences.” They see this in the west. They see this in the culture of western people. Acknowledging people’s differences brings calm. They say, “I love this calmness.” Why? Actually, you should go to a place where everyone cares about you and helps you! This is being sophisticated, not what you see in western culture where people don’t care about each other due to their selfishness. But a religious person isn’t selfish. He cares due to his wanting to serve people and his being affectionate and kind! Why shouldn’t he care about others?
Our religion has said this too. Why should you search for this in the west? Why should you become infatuated with western culture, my dear? It’s said that if you see a wrong behavior, think positively about the person as much as is possible. For example, “I saw this husband and wife fighting and cursing each other.” Say, “They were practicing to see if they can curse someone! They were joking!” “No, he was really angry! He broke a glass too.” [Say,] “He was acting to see if he knows how to act. The husband and wife wanted to see if they are able to break a glass like in films. It was for fun. What’s wrong with that?!”
A tradition says, “A believer thinks good thoughts about others as much as is possible.” If it wasn’t possible to think good about him, you shouldn’t look at him as a sinner the next morning. Why? He certainly repented last night. He had time until morning. He sinned yesterday. You shouldn’t judge him today. We have some rules in our religion, which bring calmness more than what exists in the west. We are more western than western people [in these cases]! No one should pry into what others do. No one should make a bad judgement about others. No one should backbite. No one should be suspicious about others. A believer should think good thoughts about others. If a believer acts according to his beliefs, his behavior is even more sophisticated than theirs is!
Some people told Imam Khomeini, “We should fire all the judges who were working during Shah’s time.” Imam Khomeini said, “No, why do you want to fire them?” They said, “As a rule, they aren’t believers!” Imam Khomeini said, “According to which rule?” Someone wanted to say something to finish it up. A judge should be just. Just [in terms of religion] means he has to be pious and not do sins openly. So he said, “Some of these judges shave their beards and you have forbidden this.” Imam Khomeini immediately responded, “I say it’s forbidden. Maybe there is another Religious Authority who says it’s not forbidden.”
This is being sophisticated. Let me give you a higher example. A rich man went from Qazvin to Najaf Ashraf to give his Khoms tax to Imam Khomeini. He related, “I wanted to give my Khoms and he asked me, ‘Is this your yearly Khoms?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Who were you giving it to before?’” Imam Khomeini guessed that he had been giving his Khoms tax to another Religious Authority and had recently changed. The man responded, “I used to give it to Mr. …” who wasn’t very well-known. Imam Khomeini said, “Perhaps he has plans about how to use your Khoms and wants to give it to the seminary students. Or he is doing a cultural activity and is counting on receiving your Khoms every year. If you don’t give your Khoms to him this year, it will harm his plans. Give your Khoms to that same person this year too.”
This is being sophisticated, not what you see in western culture where people don’t care about each other due to their selfishness. But a religious person isn’t selfish. He cares due to his wanting to serve people and his being affectionate and kind! Why shouldn’t he care about others?
A person says, “I’m more comfortable there because no one cares what I do.” Why? Actually, you should go to a place where everyone cares about you and helps you! This is what will captivate the west. It’s the culture of religion. The world is waiting to see this. You see a small example of this in Arbaeen.

What is your purpose in practicing religion? We can mention other reasons for our religiosity. They are right too. But it\'s not suitable to word it like that. It’s not nice or pleasant to say it like that. [We can count them,] “One, two, three, four.” Usually the reasons mentioned are not accurate. It’s more accurate to say, “I want to enjoy more.”
Why do you want to enjoy more in this world and in the Hereafter? Because God has created me to enjoy, not to suffer. God is kind. He has allowed me to experience pleasures and has created me in a way that I pursue enjoyments. He doesn’t say, “Don’t touch it! I want to bother you.” Is God like this?! One doesn’t understand God if he thinks he hasn’t been created to enjoy.
Have you seen how some fathers are a little grudging? God forbid, I don’t want to insult fathers. Or some employers or bosses. For example, a father sees his child is playing. As soon as he sees his child playing, he says, “Shouldn’t you be studying now?!” [The child says,] “You can’t tolerate me playing? You have to remind me now?!” Some people think the same way about God. They think God likes to see us suffering!
What is your purpose in practicing religion? Don’t say, “So I won’t go to Hell.” Don’t say, “I’m forced to.” Only a part of this is true! Don’t say, “This is God’s right.” What will happen next after you carry out God’s right? Will you enjoy it? [You’ll say,] “No, I’m not after enjoying.” You force me to say something! I have to tell you, “Kiddo! You’re not at that level! You’ll go astray with one small pleasure. And now you’re talking about carrying out God’s right?!”
Human beings have been created to enjoy. “Why do you practice religion?” To enjoy. “Is practicing religion the way for us to enjoy?” Yes! Now the second part of the discussion starts. Yes, no one else knows how to show the way. [One might say,] “No, God is showing us how to stay away from sins.” God is not that boring! God has created me to enjoy. Is it rational for Him to not let me enjoy? [He won’t say,] “I’ve created you to enjoy, but don’t touch anything! Go away!” This is a misconception about God! Such a God is not kind.
We say, “In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.” God Who is kind has created me to enjoy. We can’t deny this. Wouldn’t this be unkind for Him to tell me to move away [from pleasures]?
What is your purpose in practicing religion? We can mention other reasons for our religiosity. They are right too. But it\'s not accurate to word it like that. It’s more accurate to say, “I want to enjoy more.”

Abdullah bin Umar met Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (as) in Medina. He said, “I’ve heard you want to go.” “Yes, come with me and help us,” said the Imam. “No, I can’t,” he said. “O Abdullah bin Umar, this world is not worth it. Come with me.” The Imam then told him a reason for him to be able to think correctly. He said, “This world is such that the Children of Israel would behead their prophet at night and live their life comfortably in the morning.” The Imam recited an elegy for one of the beheaded prophets in order to help Abdullah bin Umar lose his infatuation with this world. “This world isn’t worth it. Come with me. It’s a world where such crimes take place.”
What should hearing Imam Husayn’s elegies do to us? You friends who are mourning for Aba Abdillah al-Husayn and who love him, accept this that we have just started our relationship with Imam Husayn (as). The Imam’s martyrdom has not yet affected us. Do you know when his martyrdom will affect us? It’s when we start feeling the same way Zaynab felt when he said goodbye, and she fainted and collapsed. It’s when you take this elegy seriously on the night of Ashura, “Tonight the king of religion is a guest in her tent. O morning, don’t rise!”
Who can be affected by Aba Abdillah al-Husayn’s (as) martyrdom? The one who has this unusual thought the night before Ashura, “Maybe they won’t kill Husayn (as) tomorrow. Maybe. Could it be possible?” You say, “The story finished 1,400 years ago!” But when one has an intense love, his mind functions like this and is under the influence of his love. When he is told that Husayn, the son of Lady Fatimah, was martyred on the evening of Ashura, his life changes. He’ll live differently from the next day. “You’re not infatuated with this world anymore?” He replies, “I saw this world is not worth it. They killed Husayn, the son of Fatimah, and I pursue this world?”

And who was the mother of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (A)?
What are some of the unique characteristics and attributes of the 2nd divinely appointed Imam (A)?
What are some of the factors that lead to the Peace Treaty which is found in the historical texts regarding Imam Hasan (A)?
What was the first priority of Imam Hasan (A), to fight against Muawiya or accept a peace treaty put forth by Muawiya?
What is one of the ways in which Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (A) embarked upon Jihade Tabyiin?
How many times did the 2nd divinely appointed Imam, attend the annual Hajj pilgrimage?
What are some details about the aforementioned Jihade Tabyiin of Imam Hasan (A) and what was its result?
Where did the Ahl al-Bayt (A) of the Messenger of Allah (S) want to bury Imam Hasan (A)?
Yet, where is the 2nd divinely appointed Imam (A) actually buried?
What happened to the coffin of the 2nd divinely appointed Imam?
And finally, why is it that the so-called companions of the holy Prophet Muhammad (S) were allowed to be buried next to him (S), but the very grandson of the Messenger of Allah (S) was not?

One of the factors that expands one\'s capacity, which we discussed last night, is good manners and morals [akhlaq], especially at home and with one\'s family. The Holy Prophet (s), who had the most and highest level of capacity, had the best etiquette of all creation. In this regard, his (s) capacity was great.
May God have mercy on Shaheed Beheshti. In his memoirs, he writes that I asked Imam Khomeini, \"During the time when you were young in Qom, who taught the class on etiquette and morals [akhlaq]?\" Imam Khomeini said that when I was young, there was no class on etiquette and morals [akhlaq]. There were individuals who embodied good etiquette and morals, who we learned from them through their actions.
No one sat and taught good etiquette and morals [akhlaq] in a class. There were individuals who embodied good akhlaq. Individuals like Ayatollah Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi, whose entire conduct and behaviors embodied good akhlaq. I will give you one example. Notice how if someone were to see this, for the rest of their life, they would not forget it.
One day, it was raining, and it had rained very much. At that time, Qom had dirt roads, not asphalt roads- so when it rained, the streets would become muddy. Once a seminary student was passing through one of these streets. He was moving quickly in order to make it in time for his lesson. [As he was walking], he stepped in a muddy pit, and one of his shoes got stuck inside the muddy pit. He limped over to a wall and stood their one-legged wondering what he would do now. At that moment, Ayatollah Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi, the great marja\' taqlid who truly was a great man. He was also elderly. From his place of study, which was in a mosque close by, Ayatollah Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi came out and saw this seminary student standing with one leg while his shoe was stuck in the mud. He took off his own shoes and put it on the foot of the seminary student. He told him wear this and go to your lesson. This seminary student was shocked and said, \"Agha, I will think of something to do.\" Ayatollah Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi without any shoes said, \"No, my home is close by. I will go home and wash my feet. You go to your studies.\"
Now look at this, for this eldery maraj\' taqlid to have an interaction like this with a youth, this is better than a thousand lessons of akhlaq given verbally. In fact, etiquette and morals [akhlaq], gnosticism [irfan], training and education [tarbiyat], before they are to be read about in books or heard in lectures, they must be seen. A person must see someone who is like this, not just hear about it or read about it in books. They must see someone like this.
Allamah Majlesi, may God be pleased with him, who compiled the \"Bihar al-Anwar\" and was a great person- on Thursday nights, he used to gather his family and speak to them for 30 minutes. He would tell them a narration [hadith], give them admonishments and advice, tell them some Islamic rulings, and recite a eulogy. He would speak to them for 30 minutes. But this Allamah Majlesi, who would speak to them for 30 minutes, he would act on these for an entire week. When his children would see his actions, akhlaq, kindness, compassion, and honesty, his 30 minutes of speaking had a deep effect within the depths of their being.
I will never forget this. There was a successful mother who lived in Tehran. She had four children who each of them was better, nobler, more religious, and more respecful than the next. They were also very educated. They asked this successful mother that how were you able to raise such good kids? Nowadays, parents don\'t have much influence over their children. It is truly like this. So they asked this successful mother that how did you raise such good kids? She said something very wise. She said that whatever I wanted my children to become, I myself practiced. That which I wanted my children to be, I myself became it.

[6] Imam Ali Gives Life Changing Advice to Ibn Abbas | Sheikh Azhar Nasser | English

Letter 22: To `Abdullah ibn al-`Abbas.
`Abdullah ibn al-\'Abbas used to say, \"Apart from the Prophet\'s sayings I did not derive greater benefit from any saying than this one.\"
ومن كتاب له (عليه السلام)
إلى عبدالله بن العباس
وكان ابن عباس يقول: ما انتفعت بكلام بعد كلام رسول الله كانتفاعي بهذا الكلام
Let it be known to you that sometimes a man gets pleased at securing a thing which he was not going to miss at all and gets displeased at missing a thing which he would not in any case get. Your pleasure should be about what you secure in respect of your next life and your grief should be for what you miss in respect thereof. Do not be much pleased on what you secure from this world, nor get extremely grieved over what you miss out of it. Your worry should be about what is to come after death.

[105] The Worldly Affairs of the People of the Hereafter | Ayatollah Misbah-Yazdi | Farsi Sub English
What do the people of the Hereafter focus on?
And how do the people of the Hereafter perceive their worldly affairs?
Who is ultimately in control of the worldly affairs of a human being?...
What do the people of the Hereafter focus on?
And how do the people of the Hereafter perceive their worldly affairs?
Who is ultimately in control of the worldly affairs of a human being?
And for the people of the Hereafter, what makes the difficulties of life bearable?
What is a verse of the holy Qur\\\\\\\'an that deals with our discussion?
What happens when we follow the commands of Allah and help the cause of Allah?
What are some divine traditions that have been taught to us in Islam that bring us prosperity in both - this world and the next?
Finally, what do \\\\\\\"The Worldly Affairs of the People of the Hereafter\\\\\\\" look like?
The late Ayatollah Misbah-Yazdi (R) provides us with a short, but profound lesson on the basics of loving Allah.

🇵🇸 Like every year, the AL-QUDS DAY in QOM, Iran was simply outstanding and energizing. 🇮🇷
🗣 Countless people poured out on the Shuhada Ave. that connects the Haram of Sayyida Ma\'sumah (A) and the Musallah Al-Quds. For as far as one could see, it was an ocean of justice-seeking, insightful, believing men, women, youth, and children expressing their solidarity with the oppressed nation of Palestine 🇵🇸. Many elderly were witnessed on wheelchairs and even crutches. 👨🦽👨🦯 🩼 Subhan-Allah.
🚶♂️This was the first-ever year where the English speaking International Students of Qom (SoQ) came together to form a rally of their own and marched towards and joined the Main Rally. A big Al-Quds Day Banner and placards in English were designed, printed, and prepared by our volunteers, especially for the Al-Quds Day Rally. The participants carried the banner and placards throughout the rally and chanted slogans in English. ✊
🇮🇷 The local Iranian population welcomed this initiative a great deal and appreciated the strong presence of non-Iranians in the rally. Countless people expressed their gratitude towards the international students\' participation in this rally. Some of the comments we received:
✨ \"The entire world should stand against Zionism. And this organized presence of the English speaking international students is simply amazing.\"
✨ \"Due to the international media blackout against us, we don\'t get coverage. Your presence shows us that our voice is reaching outside of Iran.\"
✨ \"You guys show us that we are not alone in this battle against the oppressors.\"
✨ \"The Al-Quds Day is not specific to Iranians. You guys proved it!\"
✨ \"You may be a small group, but you give us hope that the message of Wilayah is being received by you as well.\"
✨ \"Your presence shows that the message of the Islamic Revolution is reaching far and wide.\"
✨ \"Your organized rally is a proof that our resistance against the arrogant powers is successful and victorious.\"
Many such comments were given to us by the local Iranian crowd. Alhamdo-lillah.
We would like to thank each and every one of you who participated in this rally with SoQ volunteer families.
We were joined by a diverse crowd of English speaking students and scholars along with their families from Nigeria, Philippines, Canada, US, UK, Dubai, Tanzania, Qatar, New Zealand, Pakistan, India and English-speaking Iranians.
Thank you for showing the strength and unity. And Jazak-Allah for continuously shouting the slogans while you were in the state of fasting. Taqabbal-Allah that you worshipped during the Night of Qadr and right the next morning you joined us with all that spirituality and purity attained during the night. This is precisely the lesson we learn from Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali (A). This is what distinguishes Islamic spirituality from fake spirituality. May Allah (swt) accept your fasting and your I\'badaat. Ameen.

The \'Quaint Quartet\' of young ladies following in the footsteps of lady Zaynab (A) had finally arrived in Najaf for \'The Great Walk of Arbaeen\'.
What all did they encounter on their walk towards Imam Husayn (A)?
And did their concerns about \'The Great Walk of Arbaeen\' turn out to be true?
And who did they happen to run across while they were on the \'The Arbaeen Pilgrimage\'?
And finally, how did the \'The Great Arbaeen Walk\' remind these young ladies of lady Zaynab bint Ali (A)?
Sister Fatima continues the story of a group of friends who have taken an oath to walk in the footsteps of lady Zaynab (A) in this post-Arbaeen special, as she speaks about how \"The Arbaeen Pact and Lady Zaynab (A)\".
And if for some reason you couldn\'t go on \'The Great Pilgrimage of Arbaeen\' this year, start planning to definitely go in the next, wherever you are.
Our condolences to the believers, all across the world, wherever you are, upon the recent Arbaeen of Sayyid al-Shuhada Imam al-Husayn (A), his beloved family members, and his devout companions.
Salutations be upon the Master of Martyrs!
Salutations be upon the esteemed Husayn!
Salutations be upon the esteemed Ali ibn Husayn!
Salutations be upon the innocent children of Husayn!
Salutations be upon the loyal companions of Husayn!

This world and the hereafter are a single line of action.
Where do we need to act and where do we reap eternal results?
Are there any servants of Allah who while being in this world, witness the next phase i.e. the hereafter?
What did Zayd ibn Harith say when the Prophet (S) asked him \\\"How are you?\\\"? And what did Zayd ibn Harith provide as a sign of his certainty?
Finally, what did the Prophet (S) tell Zayd?
The late Ayatollah Misbah-Yazdi (R) provides us with a short, but profound lesson on the basics of loving Allah.

Why are the Nights of Qadr known with such a name, and what does it have to do with our fate and destiny?
And in the least, how many years is the one Night of Qadr equivalent to?
What are some interesting points regarding the Night of Qadr, and what is the ultimate value of these auspicious nights?
Why are there different dates attributed to the Nights of Qadr; and are these dates based upon personal opinion?
What are some of the things that we can do during the blessed and auspicious Nights of Qadr?
What is the importance of involving the youth and the next generation in our Islamic programs, including the holy month of Ramadhan and the Nights of Qadr?
And finally, among all the prayers that we recite and things that we request from Allah on the Nights of Qadr, why is it so important to pray for our Palestinian brothers and sisters?
In order to answer these questions and more, we invited Shaykh Abdulmajeed to come and speak to us about \\\"The Honorable Nights of Qadr\\\".
Our congratulations to all the believers, wherever you are, upon the auspicious and the holiest of holy months, the holy month of Ramadhan and the blessed Nights of Qadr.
May Allah help our Palestinian brothers and sisters achieve victory.
