Almost 12 years on since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan, Britain\'s top military man here --- Nick Carte believes that the problem of Afghanistan is largely political. And the West could have solved this, if they had talked with the Taliban a decade ago. British Prime Minister David Cameron, however, thinks otherwise. He says they need to move forward with both military and political approaches. He urged President Karzai to resume negotiations with Americans about a security deal between Kabul and Washington. Cameron also demanded a big role for his own government in the ongoing talks with the Taliban militants.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is the first foreign head of government to visit Pakistan after historic democratic transition of power in May this year. Cameron met Pakistan\'s new Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in capital Islamabad. The two discussed measures to enhance bilateral relations including trade and economic ties between Pakistan and Britain. But their real focus was on current situation in Afghanistan. At a joint news conference, the British premier, who flew from Kabul, backed a political solution to Afghan war after his top general said the West missed a chance to strike a peace deal with Taliban militants 10 years ago. For his part, Pakistani premier emphasized the need for all-inclusive Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process.

During his hour-long lecture on the tensions engulfing the Middle East especially in Egypt the outspoken British MP criticised Mohammad Morsi the ousted Egyptian president for his handling of the Syrian crisis

Political analysts believe that the victory of Hezbollah in the battle of Qusayr in Syria sent out a strong message to the Israelis regarding a possible offensive by the Resistance movement on the Galilee region in northern occupied Palestine.
In the past, Hezbollah sought to liberate its own land and defend it from Israeli aggression, yet for the first time ever, Hezbollah recently sent hundreds of its men on the offensive to help the Syrian army liberate an area (Qusayr) on foreign land from Western-backed militants and extremists.
Nasrallah in his latest speech seemed to suggest that as a result of his movement\\\\\\\'s decisive victory in Qusayr, Israel now looked at Hezbollah as a more capable force, and had therefore revised all its previous military plans on dealing with the Resistance.

Lebanese nationals who were held captive by insurgents in Syria now talk about their ordeal. One of them has described the captors as inhuman.
Abbas and ten other Lebanese nationals were snatched by militants in Syria as they were returning from a visit to religious sites in Iran in 2012. He says the kidnappers constantly tormented them during the 17-month detention. The man says the psychological abuse they suffered at the hands of the hostage takers was even worse than the physical torture. Another ex-hostage says the captors kept telling lies to them about their fate to mentally torture them. The hostages arrived in Beirut on Saturday and were greeted by cheerful crowds.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says he doesn\'t rule out running for president in 2014.
In an interview with a Lebanese TV network, the Syrian president said he sees no obstacle to making a bid for re-election next year. Assad has stated time and again that he is not holding onto power and only the Syrian people will determine the destiny of the nation in elections. Commenting on the proposed Geneva II conference, Assad said -- factors not yet in place for peace talks. He cited the threats from al-Qaeda affiliated groups, fierce infighting among the militants, and the widening divisions in the fractured opposition. The US promptly responded to Assad\'s remarks. Secretary of State John Kerry said any attempt by Assad to be re-elected would extend the Syrian conflict. Kerry added that the Syrian opposition would never agree to Assad staying in power.

In an interview with a Russian TV network, Jamil, who is a leader of the internal opposition, stated that those who destroyed Syria must be held accountable. Sheikh Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun says the two bishops are alive and being held in Turkey. He says Chechen militants colluded with Turkish special services to kidnap them. Rumors circulated that both of them were killed, however the rumors were later denied. The metropolitans were said to be working on resolving humanitarian problems in the northern village of Kafr Dael when they were abducted.
