UN officials are calling on Israel to end the blockade of the Gaza Strip. They\'re warning that the situation in the Palestinian territory may get even worse.
The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees says the Israeli blockade has paralyzed Gaza\'s construction industry. Robert Turner also said that the demolition of tunnels used by Gazans to transfer goods and construction materials to the enclave has put U-N projects on hold. This, after Egyptian authorities also stepped up the destruction of the tunnels in recent months. Meanwhile, another U-N official, James Rawley has also waned about the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory over a lack of fuel there. Gaza\'s fuel crisis has led to the closure of its main power plant in recent months. Israel imposed its all-out land, aerial, and naval blockade on Gaza in June 2007 after the victory of Hamas in elections there.

These are activists from Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf or Justice Party which is now governing the country\'s northwestern province bordering with Afghanistan. For several days, the provincial government has blocked land routes for trucks carrying war supplies for US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan.
The provincial government has avoided using police force to block the supply lines in order to prevent legal action because defense and foreign policies are the exclusive domains of the federal government.
Legally speaking the federal government in Islamabad can dismiss the provincial government in northwestern region for overstepping its authority to block the NATO supply line. But given the fact that the anti-US sentiment is rising alarmingly, the federal government is hard pressed to decide on a clear policy action that goes beyond routinely condemning U-S drone attacks.
The country\'s Interior Minister Chaudhar Nisar Khan says that it is time for Pakistan to choose between US economic assistance or self respect. The federal government is engaged in consultation process with major political parties to evolve consensus on how to bring an end to the US drone attacks that has effectively derailed the peace process with the pro-Taliban militants.

Fi Tuffuf - In Tuffuf (Karbala) - Latmiya - Arabic sub English
Poetry:
In Tuffuf (Karbala),
Zainab was taken captive,
by the cursed one
And she called out,
Where are you,
oh my helper?
Oh Hussein
Oh Hussein
Oh Hussein
And Hussein,
without his head,
lay in blood
Without a cover,
his body was left,
for three days,
upon a barren land.
Oh my beloved
Oh Hussein
Oh Hussein
The head of our Maula
on a spear,
raised high,
reciting the Quran,
illuminating,
peacefully,
Oh our Imam
Oh our Imam
Oh our Imam
Zainab called the orphans to come
Dont be scared of the tyrants!
Dont worry
Oh abandoned one!
Oh abandoned one!
Oh abandoned one!
The heavens,
because of this tragedy,
collapsed
Its tears,
of fresh blood,
rained down
O murdered one
O murdered one
O murdered one
They killed Abbas,
treacherously,
and he was the defender of the Imam
He was the back, and the right hand,
of the Imam
They killed him,
They dismembered him,
Oh Hussein
Oh Hussein
Oh Hussein
Oh Hussein
Your blood so pure,
will remain,
like a beacon of light
Guiding,
all the revolutionaries,
from going astray
Oh Hussein
Oh Hussein
Oh Hussein
They killed you,
thirsty,
near the river Furat
After all this,
you were trampled,
by the brutes
In blood,
In sacrifice,
Oh Hussein
You proclaimed
Far from me,
is a life of humiliation
I will live,
dignified,
on the right path
Oh my Imam
Oh my Imam

As human rights abuses by israel are on the rise, Tel Aviv is set to join the UN Human rights Council. The irony has not been missed, as currently Israel is threatening to expel 70 thousand Bedouins from the Negev Desert who have lived on the land for at least a thousand year. Many see Israel being part of the UN Human Rights Council as problematic. This as Tel Aviv continues its siege on the Gaza Strip and Gazans have very little energy sources, clean water or proper sewage system.

The United Nations has criticized Israel for destroying 30 Palestinian properties in the Occupied West Bank.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator James Rawly says the demolitions have resulted in the displacement of 41 people, including 24 children. Rawly says some of the families have been displaced for the second time in less than two weeks. Rights groups say the demolitions are aimed at grabbing more land for Israel\\\'s settlements and military projects in the occupied Palestinian Territories. Israel has built thousands of settler units in the occupied territories despite international condemnation. The settlements are considered illegal under international law.

Israeli forces handed 10 Palestinian families demolition orders this week in the village of Barta\'a al-Sharqiyeh in Jenin.
The orders handed to the villagers have now totaled 50, with each family given one months notice to appeal before their homes, shops and animal barracks are bulldozed. The guards claimed that we would need special permission as we were entering Israel, though legally the land is within the 1967 green line.

The UN is asking for 95 million dollars in food aid for almost a million Gazans, suffering under an Israeli blockade since 2006. Scores of UN projects have been shut down and thousands made jobless since Israel refused to allow in construction material in the besieged Gaza Strip. Palestinians are facing severe electricity shortages and reeling from devastating floods amid the cold winter weather. Meanwhile, the Israeli prime minister has said Tel Aviv will not stop even for a moment settlement construction on occupied Palestinian land despite the fact that U-N Resolution 4-4-6 and a ruling by the International Court of Justice conclude the Israeli settlements violate international law. Is Israel enjoying immunity from prosecution for its violations? On this edition of the Debate, we\'re discussing how a growing Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign is affecting the global discourse on the Israeli-Palestinian problem.

A noha about the tragedy of Ashura in Karbala
Noha Lyrics:
Fatema you have given all of your family for Allah
There is your son standing alone, calling for help to Allah
1
Where is the flag-bearer of Islam, to support him ya Allah?
Where is Akber to comfort him, the reminder of Rasullulah?
Where is Asghar with such parched lips, he was so thirsty, Ya Allah?
2
Your backbone Abbas, he loved his niece Ruqayya, your daughter
He offered his arms and his right eye, just to fetch her water
An empty mashk, a fallen flag, the moon of Hashemites, slaughtered
3
Hazrat Akber, like the Prophet in his looks and soul
He tasted death but to Allah was his ultimate goal
Standing for truth, his sacrifice, sweeter than honey ya Allah
4
Baby Asghar, he was so thirsty but he still answered the call,
On the desert plain, slain heartlessly, just six months, so small
Neither the sky nor the sacred land, would accept his blood, Ya Allah
5
A broken back, a blood-stained beard, where can he turn now Allah?
This is the son, of the Prophet\'s daughter, Lady Zahra,
When he is gone what will happen to Zainab, Ya Allah?
6
Zuljanah must carry Imaam to the battlefield, to fight,
But he won\'t leave, Ruqayya is clinging to his legs, so tight,
She is pleading, father don\'t go, just imagine Husayn\'s plight
7
Shaame Gharibaa, the tents alight no rest for the kafela,
A young girl whose ears are bleeding, searches, oh father
Asleep at last, on a headless chest, Zainab discovers Ruqayya
8
Answer me this, Ya Imaam-e-Zamaan when will you come to avenge them all
With tears of blood, we await you to come and relieve us all
This tragedy, it weighs so deep, give us patience Ya Allah

The israeli authorities have seized all shelter and humanitarian aid provided to Palestinian residents who had their homes demolished by the Israeli army in the Jordan Valley.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories (OHCHR) had provided the humanitarian assistance when the Israeli authorities bulldozed an entire Palestinian village in the Jiftlik area of the Jordan Valley. The Israeli army have now declared the area a closed military zone and do not allow human rights groups and media entering the area. Last week the Israeli army bulldozed 13 homes and animal outhouses belonging to 3 bedouin families, leading to the displacement of 26 people and 15 children. At the time the army claimd that they were living in a military training zone. Israeli has clarified its position over the Jordan Valley stating that they aim to annex it onto their land. Tel Aviv has refused a deal brokered by the US, to remove all military presence from the Jordan Valley. This is the second time that the Israeli army demolish Palestinian homes in the village of Jiftlik -- leaving them in a cold winter without home or shelter. Rights groups say childrens and elderly are the ones who have suffered the most as a result and if this trend continues it could lead to a serious humanitarian crisis in the village.

Tunis has hosted an international summit to support the Palestinian cause and raise awareness about Israel\\\'s crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Participants included African and Asian individuals who described any ties with Israel as illegal. They also urged unity among Muslims against Israel\\\'s occupation of Palestinian land and what they called Tel Aviv\\\'s permanent disrespect for International law. The summit was organized by the Tunisian NGO, Maghrebian Congress to support al-Quds and Palestine. Activists from the Maghrebian Congress to support al-Quds and Palestine firmly state that the normalization of ties with the Israeli regime is a crime against millions of Palestinians. [29 Jan 2014] Palestinians strive to save villages from Israeli separation wall - English

The Israeli high court has held its first session to determine the fate of two Palestinian villages which Israeli wants to divide and annex behind a controversial wall.
The proposed wall which has already sparked an international outcry will cut directly through the villages of Battir and Cremisan, isolating villagers from their rich agricultural lands. One of the villages to be most adversely affected is Battir, where the wall will cut through and destroy ancient Roman terraces, a castle, and a Roman irrigation system which the villagers still use to irrigate their crops. Christians from the village of Cremisan have been demonstrating on a weekly basis in the \'Tent of Nations\' which has attracted international support. Villagers here claim that the Israeli is trying to grab the lands that belong to 58 families. The Bethlehem municipality filed the petition in the high court. Israeli claims the separation wall will be built for the so-called security reasons. However, the Palestinians call is yet another excuse to seize their lands. Following years of petitioning to keep their land and agricultural resources intact, residents of Battir and Cremisan say they would wait for the court\'s decision. However, they pledge to keep fighting for their rights and say that even IF the ruling is not in their favor they will continue to pressurize Israel through international petitions.

Israel is pushing ahead with plans to build more settler units in the occupied Palestinian land despite international outcries.
A new statement by Tel Aviv says five-hundred fifty-eight more settler units will be constructed in East Jerusalem al-Quds. This is the latest in settlement projects which Israel has been speeding up over the past years. Israeli settlements are illegal under international law. The UN and much of the international community have condemned Israel\\\'s expansionism as illegal. They want an end to its settlement activities in Palestinian territories. The settlements are also one of the main obstacles in talks between Israelis and the Palestinian Authority.
