[11 July 2012] Al Saud tries to scare Sunni population - English
Tens of thousands of Saudi Arabian protesters have held a demonstration against the Al Saud regime in the Qatif region of oil-rich Eastern Province.
The protester chanted slogans against the Al Saud regime, calling for its downfall. The mass rally comes a few days after Saudi forces killed at least three protesters in the region.
The oil-rich eastern province has been the scene of protests after the forceful detention of a prominent Shia cleric. Sheikh Nemr al-Nemr was wounded in an attack on his car and then arrested by Saudi forces. The Eastern Province has been the epicenter of anti-regime protests since last year. The protesters demand the release of political prisoners and social justice.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Ali Al Ahmed, director of the Institute for [Persian] Gulf Affairs (IGA) in Washington, to further discuss the issue.

[29 July 2012] West Bank under fire - Remember Palestine - English
A number of NGOs including UNICEF and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights as well as Palestinian Al Haq and the Israeli Yesh Din, issued yet another statement on the continued rise in settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The statement which states there has been an astounding 150% increase in settler violence since 2009 comes just a few days after a lethal attack on a Palestinian who was repeatedly stabbed by settlers after just being shot by Israeli soldiers.
A report from the Palestine Center published this year identifies three potential causes for settler violence; it\'s response to Israeli government actions; it\'s a product of demographics and security arrangements; it is a response to Palestinian violence. The report also states that while Israeli settler violence is not new, the extent and frequency with which it is perpetrated today is new.

Voltaic batteries of all shapes and sizes are objects that convert chemical energy into electrical energy. You probably use batteries to power your cell phone, iPod, or any number of wireless gadgets. But did you know that you can actually use chemical energy stored within a lemon to power a small LED light? It\'s true, and we\'ll show you exactly how in the Fruit-Power Battery experiment. How does it work? Batteries are comprised of two different metals suspended in an acidic solution. With the Fruit-Power Battery, the two metals are zinc and copper. The zinc is in the galvanization of the nail, and the penny is actually copper-plated zinc. The acid comes from the citric acid inside the lemon. The two metal components are electrodes, the parts of a battery where electrical current enters and leaves the battery. With a zinc and copper set-up, the current will flow out of the penny and into the nail. The electricity also passes through the acidic solution inside the lemon. Once the Fruit-Power Battery is connected to the LED, you create a complete circuit. As the electrical current passes through the LED, it lights the LED, and passes back through all of the lemons.

Turkish police have fired tear gas to disperse anti-war protesters outside the parliament in the capital city, Ankara.
Protesters took to the streets around the Turkish parliament on Thursday, chanting, \\\"We don\\\'t want war!\\\" and \\\"The Syrian people are our brothers!\\\"
The Turkish parliament was deliberating on a motion that would allow military operations in Syria if the government considers them as necessary.
The demonstration comes after Turkish forces reportedly killed several Syrian soldiers in an attack on a military post near the border town of Tel Abyad earlier on Thursday.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Moufid Jaber, with the Center for Middle East Studies from Beirut, to further discuss the issue.

An analyst says Israel is \'absolutely not\' interested in peace as Tel Aviv\'s violation of peace agreements, attacks on Palestinians and continual construction of new settlements in the occupied territories clearly indicate. The comment comes as Last month; Israeli officials said they would go ahead with plans to build 6,500 settler units on Palestinian territory despite the opposition of the United Nations and the international community.
The presence and also the continued expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine are major obstacles for the efforts to establish peace in the Middle East. More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel\'s occupation of Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967. The UN and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in a war in 1967 and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbids construction on occupied lands.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Hani al-Bassous to further discuss the issue. He is joined by Abdallah Abdallah with the Palestinian Legislative Council and reporter and political analyst Maxine Dovere.

The Americans including the Jewish citizens, are really getting fed up with Israel\'s violations of Palestinians\' rights as they get more informed thanks to the Internet, says an analyst. The Palestinian Authority (PA) has threatened to take legal action against Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICC) if the Tel Aviv regime builds new settler units on the occupied Palestinian land. The move comes as the Zionist regime of Israel is planning to build new settler units in a Palestinian area called E1 outside the suburbs of East al-Quds (Jerusalem). More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel\'s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967. An analyst says the United States of America only offers a simple apology when Washington\'s assassination drones, which have recently been used on a daily basis, \'mistakenly kill\' innocent civilians.
The comment comes as Washington has been using its assassination drones in Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Somalia, claiming that they target the terrorists. The attacks, however, have mostly led to massive civilian casualties.
This is while the US-imposed Yemeni President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi praised the American targeted killing bid across his country in a September visit to Washington.
\"They pinpoint the target and have zero margin of error, if you know what target you\'re aiming at,\" Hadi said at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

An analyst says the \'racist and unjustifiable\' US stance of not accepting Palestine as a legitimate body must be condemned as the Palestinians are the internationally acknowledged real owners of Palestine.
The comment comes as the United States has objected to the presence of a senior Palestinian official sitting behind a nameplate that read \'State of Palestine\' at the United Nations Security Council.
Susan Rice, the US ambassador to the UN, expressed Washington\'s disapproval of the latest move by Palestinians to capitalize on their upgraded UN status as Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riad al-Malki spoke at the Security Council on Wednesday.
It was the first Palestinian address to the Council since the UN General Assembly voted to upgrade the status of Palestine to non-member observer state on November 29, 2012.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Kamel Wazni, political commentator in Beirut to further discuss the issue.

In the name of Allah, I do not ask for but His generosity, I do not fear but His justice, I do not count on but His words, I do not cling and hold to but His rope [love and friendship of Muhammad and Aali (children of) Muhammad]. Unto Thee I draw near, O Owner of amnesty and approval! (away) from oppression and hostility, from the ups and downs, and the chronic pains and sorrows, from the \\\"course of events (life) coming to an end\\\" before \\\"provisions\\\" (for the Hereafter) are put in order and readiness. Thee (alone) I ask for guidance unto that which is good, set right and put in order, Thee (alone) I ask for help while I make efforts to become better, and get what I want. Unto Thee (alone) I turn to for health and welfare, and its completion, together with peace and security, and its continuity. I take refuge with Thee, O Lord, from \\\"playing into the hands of\\\" trick devils. and with the help of Thy authority and power keep clear of fascism and reign of terror. Accept my prayers and fasts I had, so far, given effect to, and let my tomorrow, and that which comes after it be better than the hours and the time I am in today, let my family, friends and community look up to me, and love me dearly, and keep me safe whether I am awake or asleep, (for) Thou art Allah, the Best Guardian, and Thou art the Most Merficul!
O my Allah, today I stand before Thee free from the guilt of \\\"giving an associate to Allah\\\" or defection and desertion, and shall be in the same position day after day henceafter, and act with faithfulness and sincerity towards Thee, and pray, hopeful of getting a favourable answer, stay obedient in Thy service, looking forward to obtain just rewards. O Allah! Send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad.
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
(All) praise is for Allah; praise belongs to Him (alone) and answers the purpose, even frequent, too much and long (time) praise is necessary, and is a duty.
I take refuge with Him from the corruption of desires and passoins, indeed (vain) desires and (carnal) passions would lead astray unto evil, if not my Lord is merciful (to me); I take refuge with Him, from the evil of the devil, who piles high sins, one upon another; I guard (myself), with His help, against every cruel wrongdoer, unjust ruler, and harmful adversary.
O my Allah! make me a part of Thy flock, because surely Thy flock (alone) wins; take me in among the group of people dedicated to Thee, because beyond the shadow of doubt, Thy party (alone) makes progress, make room for me among Thy friends, because certainly for Thy friends there is no fear, nor they dismay or lose confidence.
O my Allah, let me answer the purpose of (my) religion, because nothing else but this alone guarantee success in my works; make my eternal life (here- after) blissful, because at all events it will be my permanent abode, a sanctuary-away from the vile and the worthless (mean world); let me live a life that fully absorbs good and beauty, every where, at all times, let me die a death that sets me free (happy and blessed) from every kind of evil. O my Allah send blessing on Muhammad, the Last Prophet, the culmination of all Messengers, on his pure and pious children, on his noble companions, and grant me in the hours of this Tuesday three favours. Donot take up the account of my sins, but to overlook them, donot put me in difficulties, but to overcome them, donot be hard and severe, except to curb the transgression, in the name of \\\"Bismillah\\\" the Best of names. In the name of Allah, the Lord of the earth, and the heavens, I keep off and drive away everything which is ugly and bad, worst of all is His displeasure. I collect and gather everything which is beautiful and good, best of all is His pleasure; so be kind and merciful when my time comes, O He Who owns and distributes favours freely!
O Allah! Send blessing on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad.

Pingu and his parents are enjoying a quiet dinner, but Pingu isn\'t happy due to him refusing to eat his greens once again. Mother and Father decide to share their food. Father gives Mother fish, Mother gives Father greens and Mother tries to give Pingu a brown potato, but he refuses and splatters it all over Mother. Father becomes enraged and tells him off. Pingu then rocks his chair and ends up pulling everything off the table. His parents become furious and Pingu ends up getting a spanking. He tries to make amends, but gets neglected instead and runs away, feeling that his parents don\'t love him anymore. Pingu\'s parents enjoy some quiet time, but they\'re not really enjoying it because they are worried about Pingu because of what time it is and what they have done. Meanwhile, Pingu becomes hopelessly lost. He nearly gets crushed by falling ice, and then comes face to face with three ugly, menacing monster-faces in the snowdrifts. They look like a human skull, a goblin/grumpy dwarf and a dinosaur/dragon. Terrified, he runs and hides in an ice cave. His parents, realizing how late it is, feel pretty bad of how they treated Pingu, so they come out and find him, with Father using his post truck to find him. Pingu notices his parents finding him and shows himself. Happy to see their son, Mother and Father both apologize to him and they take him back home. After Pingu is fed hot soup by Mother, they all go to bed together happily.

Pingu is painting a picture while his mom is ironing clothes, but then the telephone rings and Pinga answers the phone, Pingu\'s mom rushes Pinga off the phone - it is Grandpa who\'s suffering measles. Pingu tells Pinga not to mess up his painting but Pinga throws red on it. Pingu gets really angry at Pinga and she runs away from Pingu. They go to Grandpa\'s house, but Pinga blocks the door so Pingu can\'t get out. Pingu backs up and rushes the door, but Pinga has moved away and he falls flat on the ground. They all go to Grandpa\'s house and while Mother tries treatments, Pingu and Pinga run around babbling and dancing, possibly to entertain Grandpa, but end up annoying him. Mother lectures them and tells them to be quiet, but they pretend to cook something in a pot and the lid falls off. Mom tells them to stop messing about and again tells them to be quiet, but they play dress-up while Pingu is on a sled and they crash into the drawer. Pingu\'s mom, exasperated, makes them go outside, where Pingu finds a board and puts it above a giant wad of snow to play seesaw. Mother, exasperated again, tells them to stop. Pingu then kicks snowballs into the door and kicks one into Mother. She finally has had enough of their behavior and tells them to go home. They then use markers to make fake spots and then call Mother. She comes home, lifts the bed sheets and finds them all spotty, like the measles. When Mother rubs their heads she finds out they have used crayon and they try it on Mother. When she jumps on the bed in the ending, she breaks it (much to Pingu\'s surprise). They then laugh.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called for the destruction of nuclear weapons across the world, saying Iran never plans to build such arms.
\\\\\\\"We believe that nuclear weapons must be obliterated, and we do not intend to make nuclear weapons, but if we had not had this belief and had decided to possess nuclear weapons, no power could have prevented us,\\\\\\\" Ayatollah Khamenei said in an address to thousands of clerics, officials and people of the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz on Saturday.
The US, the Israeli regime and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of seeking to produce an atomic bomb under the cover of its nuclear energy program, a claim Iran has categorically rejected.
In his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2012, US President Barack Obama said, \\\\\\\"A nuclear-armed Iran is not a challenge that can be contained,\\\\\\\" adding \\\\\\\"The United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.\\\\\\\"
Reflecting on the US offer of direct talks with Iran, the Leader said Washington is using the media network which is under the influence of the Zionists and the Americans, to deceive the public opinion in the world, region and Iran.
Ayatollah Khamenei added that the global media network either does not reflect the truth about Iran, or distorts the truth.
The Leader stated that Washington proposes negotiations \\\\\\\"to show to the Muslim and proud nations of the region that despite all its tenacity and steadfastness, the Islamic Republic of Iran has finally come to the negotiating table; therefore you have no other choice but to surrender as well.\\\\\\\"
Ayatollah Khamenei said from the Western point of view, the real meaning of negotiation is to accept what they say, adding that they want to negotiate with Iran to make it give up its nuclear program while \\\\\\\"they need to hear our reasoning if they are after logical talks.\\\\\\\"
The Leader noted that the US claim that it would lift sanctions on Iran if the country comes to the negotiating table was a \\\\\\\"false promise.\\\\\\\"
\\\\\\\"In fact, this promise is one of [the United States] deceitful remarks, which shows that they are not after real and fair negotiations, but seek the surrender of the Iranian nation,\\\\\\\" the Leader added.
On February 2, US Vice President Joe Biden said his country was ready to hold direct talks with Iran over its nuclear energy program.
Only four days later, the US government imposed new sanctions on Iran\\\\\\\'s energy sector. The sanctions aim to prevent Iran from gaining access to crude export revenues.
The Leader also criticized Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for a recent row during the impeachment of the labor minister.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that leveling accusations by the head of one branch of the government against the other two, the legislative and judicial branches, over an \\\\\\\"unsubstantiated document\\\\\\\" is unlawful and in violation of the rights of the Iranian nation.
On February 3, Iran\\\\\\\'s Majlis voted to dismiss Labor and Social Affairs Minister Abdolreza Sheikholeslami over his failure to remove Saeed Mortazavi from his post as the head of the Social Security Organization.
During Sheikholeslami\\\\\\\'s open impeachment session, Iran\\\\\\\'s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad played a tape showing a meeting between Mortazavi and Fazel Larijani, the brother of the Majlis speaker.
The video purportedly showed Fazel Larijani attempting to use his family\\\\\\\'s political status for financial gain. Fazel Larijani has declared that he would file a lawsuit against Mortazavi and President Ahmadinejad for what he called an intrusion of privacy.
The leader also criticized the Majlis speaker for overreacting to the accusations pressed by the president.
Ayatollah Khamenei also said the very idea of impeachment at Majlis for a reason that did not relate to the minister was wrong.
The Leader stated that Iranian officials must work to set aside differences and resolve domestic problems.
The Leader further pointed to the Iranian nation\\\\\\\'s high turnout in the rallies held across the country to mark the 34th anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and said economic problems did not lead to a separation between the people and the Islamic establishment.

Mother has hung out some washing, with help from Pingu. Mother has just gone back inside the igloo when the wind suddenly gets up, so Pingu decides to have some fun on an ice-surfer. He builds this himself, making the platform and mast from some stuff he finds in the shed, and for a sail using one of Mother\'s clean sheets that she has just hung out to dry. After some fun zooming around, while going up a hill the wind suddenly stops and Pingu and his ice-surfer go crashing back down. The sheet he\'s used for the sail is now filthy. Pingu mournfully goes back home, is told off by his mother for dirtying the sheet, and has to clean it. As he is doing this, with not very much success, Robby comes along. By swish-swashing his tail, Robby very quickly gets the sheet spotless. Mother is very pleased by the result, and Pingu and Robby share a fish given to them by Mother as a reward. Pingu asks Mother if she would like a bit, but she doesn\'t.

On their first go, Robby gets his the farthest, on the second Robby again gets his the farthest, but both finish up near a neighbour who is sitting on an ice block reading, and he tells them to leave him alone. They swap stones, and play back the way they came. Robby wins this as well. Pingu is annoyed, and plays the stone as hard as he can. Unfortunately, it goes toward the neighbour who is reading and knocks the seat from under him, depositing him on the ice on his backside! Robby laughs; Pingu gets sympathic. He is understandably rather furious at this and goes to tell Pingu off, but Robby tries to pull him back. This annoys him even more and he follows Pingu home. Pingu goes indoors and hides inside his toy box, while Mother is ironing a towel, but she is not paying attention and burns it, much to her dismay. The neighbour bangs on the door and comes in. The neighbour explains to Pingu\'s Mother what happened, and Mother gets Pingu to apologize. Pingu is afraid to apologize because of how mean he is, however Mother comforts Pingu and Pingu apologizes to the neighbour, and he and Pingu make up and shake hands. The neighbour and Pingu then have a game. Pingu gets his the farthest because his jumps over the other!, much to the neighbour\'s annoyance

An analyst says Pakistan has reacted coldheartedly to the recent Shia carnage in the country as it could have been controlled with ‘better intelligence, better vigilance and above all the resolve to do so.’
The comment comes as the death toll from a bomb attack targeting Shia Muslims in a market in Pakistan has climbed to 90, as the victims\' families continue their sit-in for the second consecutive day in the city of Quetta demanding government protection.
The bombing tore through the crowded vegetable market in the town of Hazara, on the outskirts of Quetta in Pakistan’s southwestern Baluchistan Province, on Saturday. The area is mostly inhabited by Shia Muslims.
On Tuesday, the mourning relatives of the victims refused to bury the bodies of their loved ones unless the government takes concrete actions and finds the perpetrators of the slaughter.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Islamabad-based political and security analyst Sultan Mahmood Hali to further discuss the issue. What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Mr. Hali welcome to the program. Would you go as far as saying that the government in Pakistan as the Hazara community is saying is responsible for a rise in the Shia killings?
Hali: Well, I won’t hold the government of Pakistan responsible for Shia killings but I would definitely call it a certain amount of callousness because they have not been able to protect the lives of the Hazaras.
What happened on January 10th this year was a terrible situation in which nearly a hundred Hazaras were killed and then they staged a demonstration refusing to bury their dead and what they are doing now is an instant replay of the same.
But as a result of that previous showdown the demand of the Hazaras was that the inept provincial government should be dismissed which it was and a government’s rule has been imposed but apparently if such a massive attack has taken place in which as reports indicate that the bomb was hidden in a major trailer then I think it is not only a failure of the intelligence agency but also the failure of the governor who had promised to look after the Hazaras.
Now you see if there is a will there is a way. If you recall just about a year or so back in Baluchistan there was a major targeting of the non-Baluchi settlers in Baluchistan at which the government cracked down and managed to stop that particular attack.
So why can’t they do that now for the Hazaras? Are the Hazaras dispensable? No they are not. They are very much a part of Pakistan. So the only thing which must be done is that desperate times call for desperate measures and the Hazaras are demanding that the Pakistan army be called in.
Unless the Pakistani army is called in although that’s the last resort but perhaps that will have to be taken to prevent the loss of more innocent lives.
Press TV: Mr. Hali just quickly, we are a bit short of time. We did see the new Baluchistan governor saying that the security forces or the government forces are scared of the militants and that’s why they’re not taking action. Some were saying that this is just shifting the blame; that actually the government is knowingly not taking action?
Hali: Well, I’m afraid there is an element of truth in it. As I just told you that there was an incident earlier in which the non-Baluchis were being targeted.
So if the government decides to take a very stern action, they can very well control this because the militants after all at the end of the day they are humans, they are not super humans.
So I am sure they can be controlled with better intelligence, with better vigilance and more importantly the resolve to get to them.
