Protest Against The Attack on the
The Holy Shrine Syeda Zainab (s.a)
Saturday July 27th @3:00pm Holland Park, Surrey BC
Zainab Binte Ali (as) was a symbol of empowerment for women and an image of resistance to the oppression as well.
On Friday, several mortar shells fired by foreign-backed terrorist groups hit the holy shrine of Syeda Zainab Binte Ali (as) of killing custodian of the facility.
Saudi and foreign-backed insurgents have stepped up their attacks on religious sites around Syria, which many believe is part of a plot sponsored by western and regional supporters of the militants to fire flames of sectarian war in Syria to pull it in an even deeper crisis.
Who was Zainab Binte Ali (as) ?
Zainab Binte Ali (as) (AH 5--62; 626/7--682 CE), daughter of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib and Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ, was the first granddaughter of the prophet Muḥammad. She is best known for her courageous and eloquent role supporting her brother Imām Ḥusayn, at the time of his martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala, and for protecting his family in the following months of Umayyad imprisonment.
Syrian rebels, dominated by Takfiri elements have earlier targetted the shrine twice in 2008 and 2012 causing extensive damage to it.
They aslo detonated another shrine revered by Shi\\\'ites. Shrine of Hujr Bin Adi, a close companion of Prophet of Islam, was dynamited by the militants who view shrines as symbols of apostacy.
A rocket strike on the revered Islamic shrine in Damascus killed its custodian, activists and residents
Al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front terrorists also destroyed the historic mausoleum of Prophet Abraham (PBUH) with bulldozers in the eastern town of Ayn al-Arous in the province of Raqqa.
Attacks on mosques in different cities have also left hundreds of people dead, most of them while offering daily prayers.
\\\"Attackers in all these crimes claim that they are Muslims while not only they insult Islamic holy sites and figures, but act in ways that are strongly rejected by Islamic laws,\\\"

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says US intervention in Syria would be catastrophic for the Middle East and extremely harmful to US regional interests.
Speaking in a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and his Cabinet members in Tehran on Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Americans would incur losses similar to what they sustained in Iraq and Afghanistan, if they decided to take military action against Syria.
The intervention by transregional and foreign powers in a country will have no result other than kindling the flames [of war] and will increase the hatred of nations for them, the Leader pointed out.
Such warmongering is like a spark in a gunpowder depot whose true dimensions and consequences cannot be estimated, Ayatollah Khamenei added.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader pointed to the ongoing situation in Egypt, noting that the Islamic Republic cannot turn a blind eye to the massacre of the Egyptian people.
We are in no way interested in meddling in the internal affairs of Egypt, but we also cannot close our eyes to the massacre of Egyptians.... We condemn the massacre of Egyptian people who were not armed, the Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei further emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the perpetrators of such a massacre no matter who they are.
Civil war must be seriously avoided in Egypt because a civil war in Egypt would be a catastrophe for the Muslim world and the region, the Leader stated.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the importance of restoration of democracy and the popular vote in Egypt, saying that the democratization process in the North African country is unstoppable.

What we are witnessing on the ground in Bangladesh today is rooted several decades ago when Bangladesh originally gained its independence from Pakistan in 1971. There were many who are now called Bangladeshis, who were against getting independence from Pakistan to begin with. And now we see the battle lines still drawn, as the government has convicted several opposition members to death for their actions more than 40 years ago to prevent independence. Now the opposition is asking the government to step down, and has called a strike, as clashes have taken the lives of several Bangladeshis. Stay with us as we take a close up look at the situation in Bangladesh on this The Debate.

Scores of people have been injured as riot police in Bangladesh used tear gas and rubber bullets against opposition supporters on the third and final day of a general strike.
A senior officer was seriously injured in the capital Dhaka when protesters hurled a small explosive device at a group of riot police. At least 16 people have been killed in political violence since Friday. The main opposition party led by former premier Khaleda Zia, who has close relations with military leaders, is demanding that a caretaker administration oversee an election scheduled for January. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instead proposed an all-party interim government led by her to oversee the January polls. She says previous caretaker governments have paved the way for a military coup.

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria have kidnapped 12 nuns from a convent in the Christian town of Ma\'lula. Local authorities say the insurgents have taken the nuns to the nearby town of Yabrud. There is no word on the fate of the nuns, but militants are usually known to kill people they kidnap. Beirut has filed a complaint to the United Nations against Israel over its spying on Lebanon. If Israel\'s spying, along with its violation of Lebanese airspace, \"constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and continuous aggression on Lebanese lands, Lebanese people, the military, security, and civilian institutions, then why hasn\'t the UN done anything about it? That\'s one of the questions we\'ll be asking in this edition of the debate. We\'ll also discuss the row over gas between Israel and Lebanon, and see what the chances are of a clash between Israel and Hezbollah.
Guests:
- Historian & Political Adviser, Geoffrey Alderman, (LONDON).
- Prof., Notre Dame University, George Labaki (BEIRUT).
Subjects:
1) Lebanon\'s caretaker Fm has not only filed a complaint to the UN: He has sent similar letters to foreign ministers of nations belonging to the 15-member Security Council, as well as to the Arab League, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement Iranian President Hassan Rouhani: Will any action be taken against Israel that will change Israel\'s behavior?
- \"Israel\'s continuous aggression constitutes a violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701
2) On Israel\'s illegal spying activities: the Dangers of the Israeli Telecomm Towers in Lebanese Territory, along with the Telecommunications Ministry announcement that Israel had installed surveillance posts along the border with Lebanon capable of monitoring the entire country: Why such interest in spying on such a vast scale over Lebanon?
3) REAX: \"Israel\'s next war must start in Lebanon\": Headline a few days of the Jewish Press: The next confrontation must start with heavy bombing attacks that would minimize later damage to Israeli cities like Kiryat Shmona, Tzfat, Nahariya and Tveria.
- Israel air attacks inside Syria took place 5 times in 2013: Israel said to stop transfer of weapons to Hezbollah: Yet, other reports indicate most of the long-range surface to surface missiles has reached Hezbolah: Why has Israel not attacked Lebanon, or Hezbollah strongholds?
- Syria spillover increasing chances of Israel attacking Lebanon: Two rockets fired from Lebanon landed close to the northern Israel: Israel responded to the attack immediately by shelling the area from which the attack originated. Possibility: that a Jihad group launched the attack in order to get Israel to attack Hezbollah and to force Hezbollah to divert some of its troops from Syria back to Lebanon.
4) The United States and Hezbollah are in secret talks to deal with the fight against al-Qaida, regional stability, and Lebanese political issues?
- Talks, brokered by the UK, \"are aimed at keeping tabs on the changes in the region and the world, and prepare for the upcoming return of Iran to the international community
5) The Eastern Mediterranean\'s Oil And Gas: Israel and Lebanon have been at odds over their maritime borders for decades, and recent discoveries in what\'s called the Levant Basin could create more conflict?
6) Israel has found comfort in one of its enemies: Saudi Arabia (who has just given 3 billion in military aid to Lebanon): how do u view this alliance vis-à-vis Lebanon?

US President Barack Obama has renewed his presidential campaign vow to shut the notorious military jail at Guantanamo Bay.
Obama said the U-S Congress should first lift the remaining restrictions on prisoners\' transfers. However, he stopped short of offering any proposal on how to close the jail, with its remaining one-hundred 55 inmates. Obama made the remarks during his State of the Union address at the U-S Capitol Hill. He also touched on America\'s foreign policy, promising to declare an end to the 12-year war in Afghanistan at the end of 20-14. On a different note, he spoke of Iran\'s nuclear energy program, and vowed to veto any new sanctions bill against Tehran. Obama urged the congress to give diplomacy a chance to succeed.

Another day of bloodshed in Iraq. At least 22 people are killed in mortar attacks on a town south of the capital Baghdad.
Five mortar rounds hit a residential area, a market and a parking lot in the town of Musayyib. Over 50 people were also injured there. The town, which is close to the Shia-dominated city of Hillah, had been a former stronghold of insurgents. A bomb attack in the same town on Tuesday claimed five lives. Iraq has been witnessing a surge in attacks by al-Qaeda-linked militants for more than six months now. Reports say over 15-hundred civilians and security forces have been killed since the beginning of this year. That\\\'s in addition to 68-hundred people who lost their lives there last year.

After the failed Geneva talks, changes have been abound in the Syrian equation. Saudi Arabia sidelined Prince Bandar bin Sultan with Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef to carry out the Syrian policy. Prince Nayef is known for his close ties with the US. Is that a sign that Saudi Arabia has realized that their terrorist support has spiraled out of control?
Is everything under the US control now?
In this edition of the debate , we\'ll also discuss the significance of Syria\'s FSA chief being sacked, Jordan\'s role, whom Syria accused of stirring the revolt in the South, and a surprise comment by Russia\'s Fm Lavrov, who said U.S. officials privately admit: terrorism, not Assad, is the main threat to Syria.
