Why is it so hard to rise above their selfish needs and desires? Many people that do understand the consequences of consumerism do not always do anything substantial to resist it because often they themselves are deep into materialism in one way or another. Some of these people may hate Bill Gates and Donald Trump but at the same time they want to become rich and famous like these two. That is true for people in the West and the East. Materialism that was a result of a specific historical experience of the so called Modernity is the West is pretty much a global phenomenon today. Thanks to corporatization in the name of globalization! Consumerism is but one facet of the larger phenomenon of materialism. Simple quantitative changes in our lifestyle would not do much. What we need is a fundamental qualitative change in our lives and in our societies. ---- In the clip one of the organizers of the world-wide Buy-Nothing-Day Kalle Lasn was interviewed by a CNN anchor in one of the previous years. ----

The Story of Stuff will take you on a provocative tour of the consumer-driven culture in the US and the increasing consumerism and materialism in the rest of the world - from resource extraction to iPod incineration - exposing the real costs of our use-it and lose-it approach to stuff. -- ISLAM is against materialism because it results in social injustice and oppression. But also because Islam wants to nurture the inner spirituality and other potential noble qualities in human beings - and materialism - that is the slavery of this world - takes them in exactly the opposite direction. Often non-religious movements choose to resist materialism because of its consequences on society - that is they resist materialism for instrumental - means to ends - reasons. Islam however places importance on simplicity and modesty because they are valuable in themselves for human perfection. Hence even if the world becomes full of resources and everyone has more than what he or she needs Islam would still stress on simplicity and modesty in the lifestyles and pursuits of its followers. With its ideals of human perfection and emphasis on the eternal life in the hereafter Islam provides a powerful rational and emotional stimulus for individuals to abstain from materialism and channel their self-interest into attaining lofty human ideals and qualities. O Fatemeh Zahra!
Not more than three months had passed since the sad departure of God\'s last messenger Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) from the mortal world, his noble daughter, Fatemah Zahra (SA), fell was confined to bed with serious illness.
Some 90 days had passed since the passing-away of the Last Messenger of Allah Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH), and every day, Fatemah (SA) used to sit beside the tomb of her dear father, and in doleful whispers, disclose to him her inner mysteries, because the people of Medina had complained that her grief for the Departed Messenger was disturbing their peace. Strange way indeed for the Muslims to behave.
But, now the holy lady, especially after the injury inflicted on her and her feelings by people who denied her rights, had elapsed into her last moments of mortal life.
Her devoted husband, Imam Ali (PBUH) and four siblings, had surrounded her bed. A bitter sense of grief was looming on the noble Ahl ol-Bayt. A strange feeling was contorting Ali\'s throat. He remembered how much her dear wife had dedicated her entire life to the path of Allah. The scenes of Fatemah\'s kind and gentle conduct were passing in Imam Ali\'s mind. He remembered Fatemah engrossed in midnight prayer, supplicating for the well being of neighbours.
Meanwhile, Imam Ali recalled Hazrat Mohammad\'s (Pbuh) words that \"God becomes angry by Fatemah\'s anger and is pleased at her satisfaction. \"
He also remembered the last will of Hazrat Mohammad (Pbuh) about Fatemah.
In the meantime, Fatemah opened her mouth and said:
\"My cousin, in my marital life with you, I never lied to you or acted against your will.\"
The heart-rendering words deeply affected Imam Ali.
She added: \"Now the angels, along with Messenger Mohammad are coming towards me. Greetings to Gabriel. Greetings to the Messenger of Allah. Greetings to your promised words, O my father. Greetings to your sweet smile.\"
Fatemah left the world a martyr and her noble spirit was carried on the wings of the angels to the presence of her Creator, Almighty Allah.
Imam Ali took Fatemah\'s hand, looked at the sky and remembered the day Messenger Mohammad had blessed their marriage by putting her hand in his. But, now it was the time of separation. Shedding tears of sorrow, Imam Ali told Fatemah in a trembling tone:
\"After you, I will not have a happy moment in the world. I am crying because I fear my life may be prolonged after you.\"
It was on 20th Jamadi al-Akhar, 5th year after the divine revelation (corresponding to 613 AD), Messenger Mohammad and his faithful wife Khadijah, were blessed by the birth of a baby girl, whom the Messenger named Fatemah.
The Prophet said: \"I named my daughter Fatemah because Allah has protected her and her followers from fire.\"
She was also known as Zahra or the Radiant. The childhood era of Hazrat Fatemah was the most difficult era of the history of Islam. For, the small community of Muslims in Mecca, were under increasing pressure from idolaters and disbelieves.
Fatemah was raised in the school of her father and the loving lap of her mother Khadijah. Since childhood, Fatemah witnessed the sufferings of her father, and was always at his side to soothe him.
Following the demise of Hazrat Khadijah, the young Fatemah took upon herself all household tasks and was often referred by her father as an angel in human cover, and a part of his heart.
Whenever the Messenger looked at his daughter, he became filled with joy.
After migration to Medina, the Messenger rejected all offers for Fatemah\'s hand from wealthy Arabs, and married her to his young cousin, the valiant Ali. It was said that if there was no Ali, Fatemah would have remained without a consort.
The Messenger used to stand whenever his daughter would enter her house. Before going on a trip, Fatemah\'s house was the last one the Messenger would bid farewell, and after returning from the trip, it was the first one that he would visit. The ultimate sense of love, kindness and devotion between father and daughter was manifested in the attribute the Messenger gave her, that is: Omme Abiha - which means Mother of Her Father

Dua Tawassul is a supplication recited by the Followers of the Family of the Prophet of Islam -Ahlulbayt- in which they ask Allah-the Exalted-for the intercession of those pure people whom He has spoken of in the Quran - when Allah says -None shall have the power of intercession but such a one as has received permission -or promise- from -Allah- Most Gracious - 19.87 - Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth 2.255 - no intercession avail except for those for whom permission has been granted by -God- 20.109 - And those whom they call upon besides Him have no authority for intercession. BUT he who bears witness of the truth and they know -him- 43.86 - And how many an angel is there in the heavens whose intercession does not avail at all except after Allah has given permission to whom He pleases and chooses - 53.26 Question - Does Allah -swt- allow us to use others as a Wasila -means of approach- to him. Yes - Allah -swt- tells us in the Quran that the sole reason for creating Man and Jinn is so that they worship Him. We are here to worship Allah who also says in the Quran -Fear Allah and find a wasila to him 5.35. The definition of wasila is -a means of approach- so worship is not direct - it is attained via a means of approach - a guide. Remember Allah -swt- is not telling you to create a wasila - he is telling you to find it. So it exists - it is down to you to find it. For mankind that wasila can only be through a fellow human being - we have no contact with jinns and therefore they cannot act as a wasila. Angels likewise cannot act as a wasila to Allah -swt- as they have no contact with us until the time of death. The wasila will have to be a human being- because the earth is inhabited by humans and as Allah says when explaining the appointment of Prophets -If there were angels on the earth I would send them an angel as a Prophet from heaven -Surat al Isra verse 95 Question - Is this Dua authentic - Shaykh Tusi says - in his book Misbah - that Imam Hassan bin Ali Al Askari a.s. wrote this duaa for Abu Muhammad who requested him to teach him the proper way of reciting salawat. Allama Majlisi has mentioned this duaa on the authority of Ibn babawayh who confidently says that there is no difficulty or problem that this duaa does not solve. The merciful Allah is beseeched in the name of and for the sake of the Holy prophet and his Ahl ul Bayt. It is known as the Dua which fulfills all legitimate desires in a short amount of time. Utho Keh Kay Ya Hussain (a.s) - Samarrah Tragedy - Urdu. Once again the peaceful Community of Shias has been struck by the evil forces. As history indicates - the Shias are a peaceful and tolerant people. We believe in the philosophy of live and let live. And this is the reason that we are a thorn in the eyes of the Salafis Wahabis Al-Qaida and the Taliban. From the very beginning the Wahabis and the other similar groups have always incited trouble while compelling others to engage in evil and hate. It is not that we the Shias are weak but that it is against the teachings of Islam which we adhere to. Intolerance injustice and oppression have always been strictly against the teachings of the last Prophet of Islam. The Quran clearly states that to you-your religion and to me-mine. It is unfortunate and tragic that Islam has been viscously hijacked by barbarians who have nothing to do with humanity let alone Islam. However the latest attack in Samarrah is way beyond belief and shatters all decency. We will not retaliate with violence. However we will strongly voice our opinions and demand our rights through all and only legal means necessary. In that spirit-I on my personal behalf and on the behalf of my Shia Community- strongly condemn and denounce this recent heinous act. We the Shias deplore all acts of oppression and injustice wherever it may occur in the world. We condemn all desecration to all sacred sites wherever they may be - and to whomever it may belong. We condemn all acts of terrorism and violence regardless. We request everyone to take a unified stand against all the injustices and tyranny occurring in the world. It is vital that now every citizen on Earth bond and strive towards truth, justice and tolerance against the common enemy inflicting pain and hate.

Journalist: Salaamu Alaikum
Journalist: Sayyidna How is your health?
Al-Sadr: Praise be to God.
Journalist: Insha\'Allah you are comfortable?
Al-Sadr: We praise God. May he protect you.
Journalist: Sayyidna, regarding the recent incidents, what is your opinion?
Al-Sadr: I have a response to the messages. To His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Al-Imam Al-Mujahid Al-Sayyid Al-Khomeini - Long may he live. I have heard your message which showed your fatherly role towards me. However, I have been unable to reply because I am trapped in the corner of my house, nobody is allowed to see me, nor am I allowed to see anybody. All I ask for is that Allah the Almighty increases your life as a light for Islam, the pure religion, under your leading Marja\'iyyah. I also ask Allah to accept our conviction in his way and to give us the success in protecting the beliefs of this Ummah; for the life of any being is not measured except by how much he can give to his Ummah, by his presence, his life, his thought; and in this, you [Khomeini] have given to the Muslims, with your presence and thought, what will remain in history; a great example to all the Mujahideen. Wasalaamu Alaikum Warahmat Allah Wabarakatuh.
Journalist: Sayyidna
Al-Sadr: Yes
Journalist: This was your message to Al-Sayyid Al-Khomeini. Sayyidna, from my knowledge, many many correspondences have been sent to you from Tehran but they have not reached your hands,
Al-Sadr: Yes, I have only heard this message from the Radio broadcast.
Journalist: Yes, there are many correspondences and the demonstrations here are of great magnitude, in support of you and the Islamic movement in Iraq.
Al-Sadr: We ask Allah to protect you and give you success under his supervision.

Journalist: Sayyidna, do you not have anything else that you want to inform us about?
Al-Sadr: At the moment I have nothing.
