In a graduation ceremony at Imam Ali (a.s.) Military Academy, Ayatollah Khamenei the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces said that the Armed Forces are the first line of national defense and stressed that America and the Zionist regime should know that the Iranian nation will not attack other countries. He added that the Iranian nation will not tolerate the threats of the material powers and that any kind of invasion and threat will be met with a crushing response from the Iranian nation.
Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated: \\\\\\\"Anybody who cherishes the thought of attacking the Islamic Republic of Iran should be prepared to receive strong slaps and powerful punches from the Iranian nation, the Revolutionary Guards, the Army and Basij.\\\\\\\"
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution called on the Iranian nation, especially the Armed Forces, to continue the path of national dignity and international glory, further stressing: \\\\\\\"The most important kind of deterrence is the strong structure of the Islamic Republic, our national unity and the closeness of the hearts of the Iranian people to each other. Everybody is responsible to preserve and strengthen this strong structure of the Islamic Republic.\\\\\\\"
His Eminence said that the Armed Forces are a source of pride for the Iranian nation and added: \\\\\\\"A nation that can prove its preparedness for resistance and whole-hearted defense - in order to safeguard its independence, identity, ideals and existence - will always be honored.\\\\\\\"
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated: \\\\\\\"In a world in which the relations between nations and countries are still determined on the basis of the power of bayonets and weapons and in a world in which the bullying powers are trying to take control of the destiny of other nations with iron fists, only a nation that proves its preparedness for defense will be secure from harm.\\\\\\\"
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the preparedness of the Iranian Armed Forces and added: \\\\\\\"The preparedness of the Armed Forces for defense, combined with their faith and piety, is a source of glory for the Iranian nation and it is necessary to preserve and strengthen this preparedness.\\\\\\\"

[06 July 2012] Comment with George Galloway: Arafat poisoned by polonium (I) - English
Scientists of a Swiss institute say they have evidence that former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat may have been poisoned with polonium. According to the findings of laboratory research conducted at the Institute de Radiophysique in Lausanne, Switzerland, Arafat was poisoned by polonium, a rare, highly radioactive element, al-Jazeera reported on Tuesday. "I can confirm that we measured an unexplained, elevated amount of unsupported polonium-210 in the belongings of Mr. Arafat that contained stains of biological fluids," said Dr. Francois Bochud, the director of the institute.
Bochud stated that the tests focused on biological samples taken from his belongings, which were given to his wife Suha Arafat by the hospital in Paris where he died. "If (Suha Arafat) really wants to know what happened to her husband (we need) to find a sample -- I mean, an exhumation... should provide us with a sample that should have a very high quantity of polonium if he was poisoned," he added. Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) leader Yasser Arafat died on November 11, 2004, following several weeks of medical treatment. At the time, French officials refused to reveal the exact cause of his death on grounds of privacy laws, fueling rumors that the Mossad had poisoned him with thallium, another radioactive element.

The following is the full text of the message issued on September 13, 2012 by Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution to condemn an American-made film which insults the Holy Prophet of Islam (s.w.a.).
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Mighty and Wise Allah said: \\\"Their intention is to extinguish Allah\\\'s Light with their mouths: But Allah will complete His Light, even though the unbelievers may detest (it).\\\" [The Holy Quran, 61: 8]
Honorable people of Iran, great Islamic Ummah:
The wicked enemies of Islam have once again revealed their deep malice by insulting the Holy Prophet (God\\\'s greetings be upon him and his household) and in an idiotic and disgusting move, they showed that evil Zionist groups are furious at the increasing brilliance of Islam and the Holy Quran in the world today. The fact that they have made the holiest person in all of creation the target of their disgusting nonsense is enough to disgrace those who have committed this great crime and sin. What lies behind this wicked move is the hostile policies of Zionism, America and other leaders of the arrogant powers, who are vainly trying to make young generations in the Islamic world lose respect for what is held sacred and to extinguish their religious sentiments. If they had refused to support the previous links in this evil chain - namely, Salman Rushdie, the Danish cartoonist and Quran-burning American priests - and if they had not ordered tens of anti-Islam films from the companies affiliated with Zionist capitalists, today this great and unforgivable sin would not have been committed. The number one culprit in this crime is Zionism and the American government. If American politicians are sincere that they are not involved, they should duly punish the perpetrators and the financial backers of this hideous crime, who have filled the hearts of Muslim people with pain.
And our Muslim brothers and sisters throughout the world should know that these futile and desperate moves by the enemies against Islamic Awakening are a sign of the greatness and importance of this uprising and a sign of its increasing growth. \\\"And Allah has full power and control over His affairs.\\\" [The Holy Quran, 12: 21]

[Audio][03] Distortions of Ashura - by Martyr Ayatullah Murtada Mutahhari - English

Here I must point out that tahrif also differs in respect of the subject involved. There is a time when tahrif occurs in an ordinary speech, as when two persons misrepresent each other\\\\\\\'s words. But there are times when tahrif takes place in a matter of great significance to society, such as when there is misrepresentation of eminent personalities. There are personalities whose words and deeds represent a sacred authority for the people and whose character and conduct is a model for mankind. For instance, if someone were to ascribe to Imam \\\\\\\'Ali (a) a statement that he did not make or something that he had not meant to say, that is very dangerous. The same is true if a characteristic or trait is ascribed to the Prophet (S) or one of the Imams (\\\\\\\'a) when in fact they had some other qualities, or when tahrif occurs in a great historic event which serves as a moral and religious authority and as a momentous document from the viewpoint of society\\\\\\\'s norms and is a criterion in matters of morality and education. It is a matter of incalculable ,importance and entails a crucial danger when tahrif-whether in respect of words or meaning-occurs in subjects which are not of the ordinary kind.
There is a time when someone tampers with a verse of Hafiz or makes interpolations in an animal fable. This is not so important, though, of course one should not tamper with books of literary value.
These analogies have no relation at all to the theme. Of course such a thing should not happen, but these interpolations do not harm a society\\\\\\\'s life and felicity and do not cause deviance in its course. But when tahrif occurs in things that relate to the people\\\\\\\'s morality and religion, it is dangerous, and this danger is incalculable when it occurs in documents and matters that constitute the foundations of human life.
The event of Karbala\\\\\\\' is, inevitably, an event possessing great social meaning for us, and it has a direct impact on our morality and character.
It is an event that prompts our people, without anyone compelling them, to devote millions of man-hours to listening to the related episodes and to spend millions of tumans for this purpose. This event must be retold exactly as it occurred and without the least amount of interpolation. For if the smallest amount of interpolation takes place at our hands in this event, that would distort it, and instead of benefiting from it we would definitely suffer harm.
My point is that we have introduced thousands of distortions in retelling the narrative of Ashura, both in its outward form, that is, in respect of the very episodes and issues relating to the major events and the minor details, as well as in respect of their interpretation and meaning. Most regrettably, this event has been distorted both in its form and content.
At times a distorted version has at least some resemblance to the original. But there are times when distortion is so thorough that the corrupted version has not the least resemblance to the original: the matter is not only distorted, but it is inverted and turned into its antithesis. Again I must say with utmost regret that the misrepresentations that have been carried out by us have all been in the direction of degrading and distorting the event and making it ineffective and inert in our lives. In this regard both the orators and scholars of the ummah as well as the people have been guilty, and, God willing, we will elucidate all these matters.

Description:

Complete Video Coverage of Toronto Ashura Day Procession, Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain Ibne Ali (AS) 10th Moharram 1434H, Nov. 24, 2012.
Hussain was born in 620 AD to a family renowned for their values of love, equality and peace. He exemplified these morals -- taught to him by his grandfather Muhammad SAWW, the last prophet of Islam.
Being born into the household of Muhammad, the people flocked towards Hussain for his teachings, generosity and wisdom. He served the people as a leader -- promoting and upholding many universal principles. Hussain valued equality, justice, and honour, and was known for his truthfulness and selflessness.
Not long after the passing of Muhammad, the leadership of the vast Arab Empire had fallen into major disrepute and corruption. The morality that Muhammad had spent his life instilling into society was slowly being eradicated as the new tyrannical ruler, Yazid, seized power.
Hussain witnessed how the fundamental human rights of his fellow citizens was being usurped, and knew something had to be done. Yazid, from the Ummayad dynasty, knew nothing of morality or humanity, and ruled with an iron fist. He demanded Hussain pay him an oath of allegiance, to lend credibility to his tyrannical rule.
It was now that Hussain faced his dilemma... Should he give his oath of allegiance to an oppressive tyrant -- stand aside and allow injustice to overcome morality? Or should he take a stand and risk great personal loss? The timeless words of his grandfather echoed in his heart and Hussain knew what to do: \"The greatest stand is to speak the word of truth in the face of a tyrant.\"
Hussain, his family and his companions were alone with no support. Yet Hussain was a man of principles -- he would never give up his mission and bow to tyranny. Yazid ordered an army of over 30,000 to block Hussain from moving any further east. Hussain\'s caravan was forced to stop in the middle of the scorching desert of Karbala, Iraq. The end was drawing close.
The next day, under the blazing sun and searing heat, Yazid\'s battle drums were sounded and orders were given to the army to attack and kill Hussain at any cost. Hussain\'s army of approximately 72 or 100 men stood in front of an army of 30,000; the odds were impossible. One by one, Hussain\'s men, family and children sacrificed themselves, until he stood alone on the desert plains...That night, Hussain assembled his companions and pleaded with them to leave him and save themselves. They refused to leave their leader, declaring that they would prefer to stay and die with him on the path of truth and justice. They took comfort in defending a noble cause.
Wounded, fatigued and without support, Hussain issued a rallying cry that shook the fabric of society; a cry that implored future generations and one which still echoes in the hearts of the oppressed and those seeking justice until today: \"Is there anybody to help us?\"
Shortly afterwards, the heartless enemy army encircled Hussain and he was ruthlessly killed and beheaded. It was the tenth day of the first month of the Islamic New Year, the 10th of Muharram 680 AD, Ashura day.

NO TALKS with the USA under pressure - Leader: Syed Ali Khamenei - 7 Feb 2013 - English

The comments made by Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei are crystal-clear: No bilateral talks with the United States as long as Washington\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s words do not match its deeds. Ayatollah Khamenei made the comments just days after US Vice President Joe Biden said Washington was prepared to hold direct talks with Iran.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has rejected any talks with the United States under pressure and threats.
“I am not a diplomat. I am a revolutionary and speak frankly, honestly, and firmly. An offer of talks makes sense only when the side [that makes the offer] shows its goodwill,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with the officials and commanders of Iran Navy on Thursday.
“Negotiation is meaningful when the two sides talk with goodwill, under equal conditions and without seeking to deceive each other. Therefore, ‘negotiation for the sake of negotiation’, ‘tactical negotiation’ and negotiation offer in order to sell a superpower\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s gesture to the world is a deceptive move,” the Leader stated.
Ayatollah Khamenei also noted that during the past four years, nothing has been seen from the United States but continuation of conspiracies, abetting seditionists and supporting the terrorists which assassinated Iranian nation’s scientists.
“You (the Americans) point the gun at Iran and say either negotiations or we pull the trigger! You should know that pressure and negotiations do not go together, and the [Iranian] nation will not be intimidated by such things.”
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the remarks by American officials that ‘the ball is now in Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s court,’ and noted, “The ball is in your court, because you should answer the question of whether speaking of negotiations at the same time as continuing pressure and threats makes any sense at all.”
The Leader pointed out, however, that, “We, of course, understand their (the Americans’) need for negotiations, because the Middle East policy of the Americans has failed, and in order to compensate for this failure, they need to play a trump card.”
Taking Iran to the negotiating table is the trump card that the US needs, Ayatollah Khamenei noted, adding that the US seeks to tell the world it has good will. “However, no one sees any goodwill.”
“Negotiation with the United States does not solve any problem because they have not fulfilled any of their promises in the past 60 years.”
Referring to the conspiracies by the enemies of the Iran including coups, military provocation, all-out support for the aggressor enemies, hard war, soft war, intensive pressure by the West’s evil media empire as well as harsh and increasing sanctions, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that for the past 30 years the enemies have tried to make Iranian nation disappointed at the Islamic Republic, but they have failed.
The Leader also stressed that the Iranian nation will castigate anybody who would renounce the national interests, sovereignty and progress of the country in order to satisfy the United States.
Speaking at the 49th annual Munich Security Conference in Germany on February 2, US Vice President Joe Biden said Washington was ready to hold direct talks with Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program.
The United States, the Israeli regime and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran argues that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Pakistani Shias who make up nearly 20 percent of the country\'s 180 million population, has been the main target of sectarian violence.
The menace has assumed deadly proportions with the beginning of the year 2013. Quetta witnessed the deadliest bombings this year with two suicide blasts that claimed the lives of over 200 Shia Muslims in the city.
In another massacre, which shook the port city of Karachi, a powerful bomb with impact radius of over 700 meters exploded in a predominantly Shia neighborhood of Abbas Town.
The targeted killings still continue unabated across Pakistan particularly the port city of Karachi, the eastern city of Lahore, northern areas bordering China and northwestern Kurram agency.
The Human right watchdog and other right groups point fingers towards the inaction of the government, which they say is not doing enough, or in some cases nothing.
The Human Rights Watch in its last year\'s report says \"The Pakistani government should urgently act to protect the minority Shia Muslim community in Pakistan from sectarian attacks by Sunni militant groups. The government should hold accountable those responsible for ordering and participating in deadly attacks targeting Shia.\"
On this week\'s INFocus we talk to Shia Muslims in Karachi to bring this issue to the limelight.

Pakistani Shias who make up nearly 20 percent of the country\\\'s 180 million population, has been the main target of sectarian violence. The menace has assumed deadly proportions with the beginning of the year 2013. Quetta witnessed the deadliest bombings this year with two suicide blasts that claimed the lives of over 200 Shia Muslims in the city. In another massacre, which shook the port city of Karachi, a powerful bomb with impact radius of over 700 meters exploded in a predominantly Shia neighbourhood of Abbas Town.
The targeted killings still continue unabated across Pakistan particularly the port city of Karachi, the eastern city of Lahore, northern areas bordering China and north western Kurram agency. The Human right watchdog and other right groups point fingers towards the inaction of the government, which they say is not doing enough, or in some cases nothing. The Human Rights Watch in its last year\\\'s report says \\\"The Pakistani government should urgently act to protect the minority Shia Muslim community in Pakistan from sectarian attacks by Sunni militant groups. The government should hold accountable those responsible for ordering and participating in deadly attacks targeting Shia.\\\"
On this week\\\'s INFocus we talk to Shia Muslims in Quetta to bring this issue to the limelight.

Imam Mohammed Taq i a.s
Muhammad al-Jawād or Muhammad at-Taqī (Arabic: الإمام محمد التقي الجواد) (Rajab 10, 195 AH – Dhu al-Qi\'dah 29, 220 AH;[1] approximately April 8, 811 AD – November 24, 835 AD) was the ninth of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi\'ism. His given name was Muhammad ibn ‘Alī ibn Mūsā, and among his titles, al-Taqī and al-Jawād are the most renowned. Muhammad al-Taqī was the shortest-lived of the Twelve Imāms, dying at the age of 25.[4]

Birth and family life[edit]
He was born on the tenth of Rajab, 195 AH. His mother was Khaizaran, also known as Sabika,[5] a woman from the family of Maria al-Qibtiyya.
Hakima, the sister of Ali ar Rida, is reported saying that on the night of al-Taqi’s birth her brother advised her to be present beside his wife. According to a tradition, al-Taqi at his birth looked at the sky and uttered confirmation of the Oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad and Walaya of Imam Ali.
Early maturity[edit]
He undertook the responsibility of Imamate at the age of eight years.
He was a child when his father was killed. He did not act upon childish or whimsical impulses and he accepted adult responsibility and behaviors at an early age. His possession of extraordinary knowledge at a young age is similar to that of the Islamic tradition of Jesus – a figure called to leadership and prophetic mission while still a child.[6]
The story of Mamun al-Rashid\'s first meeting with Imam Muhammad Jawad (as) is interesting. Once Mamun was passing a street in Baghdad with his soldiers. When the other children saw the caliph, they ran away but Imam Jawad (as) did not.
Noting this, Mamun al-Rashid stopped his carriage and asked, \"Young man, why did you not run away like the other children?\"
Imam Jawad replied calmly, \"For the following two reasons: Neither had I committed a crime, nor was I blocking the way. Why should I have run away or be afraid? And I also know that you will not cause any unnecessary trouble when your way is not blocked, and your horses may go around me.\"
Mamun al-Rashid was surprised with this mature reply and asked, \"What is your name?\"
\"Muhammad,\" came the reply. \"Whose son are you?\" asked Mamun al-Rashid. \"Son of Ali.\"
\"Ali son of who?\" said Mamun, \"Son of Musa, son of Jafar, son of Muhammad, son of Ali, son of Husayn, brother of Hasan, son of Ali the cousin and successor to Muhammad the Messenger of God\"
Mamun al-Rashid became even more surprised at the latter answer and rode on. During his hunt the hawk returned to him with a small fish in its beak. He returned toward the city. Once again, he found this young man who said he was Muhammad son of Imam Ali Ridha (as) who remained where he was left.
Mamun stopped his carriage near Imam Jawad (as) and said, \"What does this hawk do for me?\", then he changed his mind and hid the fish in his fist and said \"No, instead tell me, what is there in my fist?\"
Imam Jawad (as) replied, \"Allah has created tiny fish in the river. The hawks of kings sometimes catch fish from there and bring it to the Kings. These kings hide it in their fist and ask a member of the Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet, \"Tell me what is there in my fist.\"
Mamun al-Rashid said, \"Truly, you are the worthy son of Imam Ali Ridha (as). Mamun al-Rashid took the young Imam Jawad (as) with him, and let him live in a nearby house next to the Royal Palace.
Since Imam Muhammad Jawad inherited the responsibility of Imamate at a very small age, people became suspicious of his ability to lead the Muslim Ummah. To clear this misconception Yahya ibn Aktham who was serving as the Chief Justice of the Abbasid empire and was the most learned man of that time was called by Mamun al-Rashid to test his knowledge. Muhammad al-Taqi was asked a question concerning Islamic jurisprudence. The Imam was asked, \"What is atonement for a person who hunts a game while he is dressed in the pilgrimage garb (‘Ahram).\" Muhammad al-Taqi responded by saying, \"Your question is utterly vague and lacks definition. You should first clarify : whether the game killed was outside the sanctified area or inside it; whether the hunter was aware of his sin or did so in ignorance; did he kill the game purposely or by mistake, was the hunter a slave or a free man, was he adult or minor, did he commit the sin for the first time or had he done so before, was the hunted game a bird or something else, was it a small animal or a big one, is the sinner sorry for the misdeed or does he insist on it, did he kill it secretly at night or openly during daylight, was he putting on the pilgrimage garb for Hajj or for the Umra? Unless you clarify and define these aspects, how can you have a definite answer?\"[7]
According to Twelver Shi’ah Islam, the Imams are perfectly able to give judgment on all matters of religious law and their judgment is always legally correct. To that end Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (as) like the other Imams of Ahl al-Bayt and the Prophets of Islam were born with extraordinary knowledge. To that end it is reported, that during his time in Baghdad he performed incredibly in a public debate with one of the leading scholars of the city, namely Yahya ibn Aktham, and publicly humiliated him.
Marriage and lifestyle during Abbasid rule[edit]
After Al-Ma\'mun had poisoned Ali al-Ridha to death he endeavored to show that the death had come by a natural cause. Al-Ma\'mun also brought al-Jawad (as) from Medina to Baghdad with the plan of marrying him to his daughter, Umul Fazal. Although the Abbasids made strenuous attempts to forestall it, the marriage was duly solemnised.
After living in Baghdad for eight years, al-Taqi and Umul Fazal returned to Medina. There he found his relationship with his wife strained and upon the death of al-Ma\'mun in 833 his fortunes deteriorated. Since Umul Fazal did not have any issues (children) Imam Muhammad Jawad (as) married Soumaneh, who gave him a son and successor, Ali al-Hadi. The successor to his father-in-law, Mamun\'s caliphate, was Al-Mu\'tasim. With the new Abbasid ruler in power al-Jawad (as) was no longer protected and his interests and position were imperilled by the dislike that al-Mu\'tasim had for him.
In 835, al-Mu\'tasim called al-Jawad back to Baghdad. The latter left his son Ali al-Hadi (the tenth Shi’ah Imam) with his mother Soumaneh in Medina and set out for Baghdad. He resided there for one more year, becoming a well known scholar and popular in debates.
Death[edit]
There are various accounts of the circumstances of his death.
Ibn Sheher Ashoob records[8] that Al-Mu\'tasim encouraged Umul Fazal to murder him. She duly poisoned him to death on the twenty-ninth of Dhu al-Qi\'dah, 220 Hijra (the 26th year after his birth).
Muhammad at-Taqi is buried beside the grave of his grandfather Musa al-Kadhim (the seventh Shi’ah Imam) within Al Kadhimiya Mosque, in Kadhimayn, Iraq – a popular site for visitation and pilgrimage by Shi’a Muslims.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Iranian youths were more than three decades ahead of their time when they called the former US Embassy in Tehran the den of espionage.
The Leader was addressing a group of school and university students on the occasion of the Student Day which coincides with the takeover of the former US Embassy in Tehran by revolutionary students on November 4, 1979.
“On that day, our youths named the US Embassy the \'den of espionage’ and today, after over three decades, US embassies in the European countries, which are American allies, are called nest of espionage,” said the Leader on Sunday, adding, “This shows that our youths were over 30 years ahead of the world calendar.”
“The arrogant approach taken by the US has caused nations to distrust and loathe it. Moreover, experience has shown that any nation and government that trusts the US will be harmed, even if they are friends of the US,” the Leader noted.
Ayatollah Khamenei also pointed to the ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the UN Security Council\'s permanent members - Russia, China, France, the US and UK - plus Germany and defended the Iranian negotiating team against criticism.
The Leader warned that no one should undermine or insult the negotiating team or label them as being inclined toward reaching a compromise over Iran\'s nuclear energy program.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that the negotiations will not harm the Iranian nation, but will be an experience for the nation, which will increase their analysis and thinking capacity, much like the experience of temporary suspension of uranium enrichment in 2003-2004.
The Leader once again voiced skepticism about US intentions, saying, “A smiling enemy should not be trusted.”
“I’m not optimistic about the ongoing negotiations because it is not known whether the nation will achieve its desired results. However, we believe there is no harm in such an experience provided that the nation is vigilant and knows what is going on,” said Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Leader added, “The nuclear issue is merely a pretext and if, hypothetically, this issue is resolved with us backing down, they will find tens of other pretexts such as [Iran\'s] missile achievements, the Iranian nation’s opposition to the Zionist regime [of Israel], and the Islamic Republic’s support for the Resistance [Movement] to continue enmity with [our] beloved Iran,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader advised Iranian officials to carefully observe the statements and actions of the other side of the negotiations because “on the one hand, they smile and express willingness for dialogue, but on the other hand, they immediately say ‘all options are on the table.’”
