Who says you should go to Karbala whenever you are in the mood
Agha Alireza Panahian
What if after the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (‘a.j.), they say, “Whoever went on the Arbaeen walk, was effective in preparing for the reappearance.” If your grandchild or child asks you, “Dad, did you go on the Arbaeen walk,” what will you answer?
Making a pilgrimage is something serious. You may go to the shrine when you are in the mood. That’s nice. You liked to go. When you go to Karbala you should say, “I am ready to help you.” Suddenly, everything becomes serious!
At least you should be able to say, “If I couldn’t go myself, I sent one person and paid his way. He was young and able to go to the shrine of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (‘a) so it wouldn’t be empty.” “I am ready to help you.” This phrase is a part of the Arbaeen supplication. I have come to help you.
If you can’t go yourself, send your child, neighbour, or colleague. Go yourself too. Say, “Imam I have come to show and announce my presence, lest my name not be recorded here.” Imam Husayn (‘a) is holding a eulogy ceremony himself for Arbaeen.
Shall I give you some strange news? A person may wonder at this until the end of time! Some religious groups hold gatherings during the year, but they don’t do anything for Arbaeen. Isn’t that interesting? They spend and work hard for their eulogy ceremonies. But, about the eulogy that Imam Husayn (‘a) holds himself, they say, “There are others who will go.” What about you?
Imam Sadiq (‘a) saw one of his friends. The Imam (‘a) said, “I have heard that there are some people who love us and follow us, who haven’t been to Karbala for four years.” The man replied, “Many people are like this!” Imam Sadiq (‘a) said, “What will these people tell the Prophet of God?” The man said, “How often should a person go on this pilgrimage?” The Imam said, “Poor people, once a year. Rich people, twice a year.”
Should one go to Karbala based on his mood and when he wants to? Where have they said this? In which tradition has this been written? A soldier should go show and announce his presence.
Because we act like this and look at it in this way, the reappearance still hasn’t happened yet. What if after the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (‘a.j.), they say, “Whoever went on the Arbaeen walk, was effective in preparing for the reappearance.” If your grandchild or child asks you, “Dad, did you go on the Arbaeen walk,” what will you answer? A soldier should go show and announce his presence.
We have advanced in spiritual matters, Itikaf, and making pilgrimages. Praise God, see how many people come to Imam Reza’s (‘a) shrine or to the Jamkaran Mosque. But friends, we still haven’t reached the needed growth. Only two million people go on Arbaeen from Iran? How do you justify this? Didn’t Imam Hasan Askari (‘a) say this is a sign of being our follower? Don’t you feel responsible? Where will you be on Arbaeen?!

Iran\'s president says the problems in the Middle East have doubled since the creation of israel.
Hassan Rouhani says over the past 65 years, the trace of Zionists has been seen in every single problem in the region. Rouhani says unity among the regional states is the only way to help rescue the Middle East. The president made the comments in a meeting with visiting Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri. The Lebanese official also held a separate meeting with Iran\'s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif. Zarif says Israel\'s pressure to derail the recent deal on Iran\'s nuclear deal is in fact aimed at diverting attention from its aggression against Palestinians.

A US Senator says Congress is expected to have a sanctions bill against Iran. John McCain says the bill will take effect if Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries don\\\'t finalize a nuclear deal soon.
McCain made the comment on a US television, where he also warned Iran that it was \\\"very likely\\\" the bill would take effect if a final agreement was not penned within the next six months. Earlier, during a Senate hearing last week, Secretary of State John Kerry had defended the recent interim nuclear deal signed with Iran. He urged lawmakers to hold off on any new sanctions legislation for a while. Tehran says Americans, on the one hand, are trying to justify the recent nuclear deal with Iran-- while, on the other, they target Iran with more sanctions.

The European Union says it\'s ready to suspend some sanctions against Iran as soon as experts check that Tehran is implementing the terms of the Geneva deal.
The bloc says it backs the deal as a sign of the commitment of all sides to build trust over Iran\'s nuclear activities. A statement from EU foreign ministers says a swift implementation of the voluntary measures by all sides is now key. The statement also adds that Iran has to implement its commitments in good faith and the EU is committed to suspending sanctions as set out in the deal. The bloc says sanctions will be suspended after inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency verify the implementation of nuclear-related measures by Iran.

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran says Tehran has built a new generation of centrifuges for uranium enrichment.
Ali Akbar Salehi says Iran has built two kinds of second generation centrifuges with capacity twice as the ones before. He says the second-generation centrifuges have been installed but under the Geneva deal, Iran will not inject gas into them for six months. He also says if Iran needs 20 percent enriched uranium for its nuclear facilities, the country has the right to enrich it. Salehi confirmed that Tehran has negotiated the construction of four new nuclear facilities with Moscow. Under an interim nuclear deal reached in Geneva in November, Iran has agreed not to bring new centrifuges into operation for six months. But the deal does not stop it from developing centrifuges.

Iran\'s foreign minister says the US had an illusion that it could totally dismantle Tehran\'s nuclear facilities and this illusion had thwarted any possible deal.
Zarif says there\'s still deep mistrust between the two sides and both need to work to build trust. At a meeting with the presence of the IAEA chief, Zarif also noted that it would be a big mistake to assume Iran has participated in talks because of sanctions. He says when sanctions were first imposed only 200 centrifuges were working, but now Tehran has 19-thousand centrifuges. Zarif says nuclear technology is now localized in Iran, and Tehran does not need the help of other countries. For his part, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukia Amano said Tehran is meeting its commitments within the framework of the Geneva agreement.

Bandar bin Sultan also criticized Washington for failing to back his country when it deployed forces to crush the popular uprising in Bahrain. Syria\'s grand Mufti says Turkey is behind the abduction of two Orthodox bishops of the city of Aleppo.
Sheikh Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun says the two bishops are alive and being held in Turkey. He says Chechen militants colluded with Turkish special services to kidnap them. Metropolitan Paul of Aleppo and Metropolitan Gregory of the Siro-Jacobite Church were abducted near the Turkish border in April. Rumors circulated that both of them were killed, however the rumors were later denied. The metropolitans were said to be working on resolving humanitarian problems in the northern village of Kafr Dael when they were abducted. The Syrian cleric believes their abduction could be linked to Ankara\'s requests for the transfer of the seat of the Antioch patriarchate from Syria to Turkey.

A senior Russian lawmaker says US attempts to influence the situation in Ukraine are a desire to take revenge for Washington\'s defeat in Syria. Alexei Pushkov says US interference in Ukraine is to show that the West is still the force that determines the course of events in global affairs. He emphasized that the West\'s meddling in the events in Ukraine suggests that the country is treated as a semi-colony. Pushkov also says the direct involvement of the EU and the US in Ukraine is a new form of political aggression. Ukraine has been hit with a wave of political unrest since late November when President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign a trade pact with the European Union.

Syria says it\'s committed to destroying its chemical weapons despite difficulties caused by the ongoing fighting with foreign-backed militants.
Deputy foreign minister, Faisal Meqdad says the difficulties may at times prevent Damascus from implementing some of its commitments. However, he says the government will fully turn over its chemical weapons by June, as required by the deal brokered by the US and Russia last year. Damascus has already met several deadlines in the process of destroying its chemical weapons so far. But, it has reportedly delayed the work twice. The US and Britain have criticized Syria for that, with Washington accusing Damascus of having a slow pace in moving the weapons abroad. Syria has rejected such claims and blamed the U-S for the delays because of its support for militants.

The head of Syria\'s \'Popular Front for change and liberation\' says that peace talks on Syria in Geneva are doomed for a stalemate unless a delegation representing all Syrian internal opposition groups is present.
During a press conference in Moscow, Kadri Jamil said that details for such a delegation are being discussed and that it must be formed in time for the third round of talks in Geneva. The second round of talks of Geneva 2 ended last week without a breakthrough result. Kadri Jamil says that at the moment the opposition is represented unfairly in Geneva. Israel FM vows to block settlement halt
Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman says his far right Yisrael Beitenu party will block any attempt to extend Tel Aviv's 10-month settlement freeze.
"There is no need to extend the freeze," Lieberman said in an interview with Israeli Army Radio on Monday, AFP reported.
"Yisrael Beitenu has enough power in the government and in parliament to ensure that no such proposal succeeds," he warned.
In November, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a 10-month freeze on illegal settlement expansion projects in the occupied West Bank. The moratorium, however, excluded construction plans in the Israeli-annexed East al-Quds (Jerusalem) and what Tel Aviv called 'community centers.'
Lieberman's remarks come amid US-backed direct negotiations between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Israel in Washington and the PA's repeated warnings that Tel Aviv's insistence on settlement expansion could derail the talks.
Lieberman's Yisrael Beitenu party is the second largest faction in the governing coalition after Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party, which also opposes any extension.
Lieberman has already poured cold water on the latest round of talks, saying he did not expect the controversial negotiations to be fruitful.
"I do not believe that a comprehensive agreement with the Palestinians is possible within a year, nor even during the next generation," he told a party gathering on Sunday.
The latest round of Israeli-PA discussions started on September 2, nearly 20 months after the talks broke off in the wake of Israel's December 2008 offensive against the Gaza Strip.
Hosting the talks in Washington, US President Barack Obama has set the ambitious goal of reaching a deal within a year.
Tel Aviv insists that the issue of Israeli settlements, seen as the main obstacle in the way to peace in the Middle East, should be discussed alongside other core disputes, including the final status of al-Quds and the fate of thousands of Palestinian refugees.

[19 June 2012] Israeli citizen gives up citizenship - English
24 year old Andrey Pshenichnikov is in the French capital with a purpose that goes beyond tourism.
This is his passport, the one he wants to renounce. In the past, some Israelis have managed to get their citizenship revoked, but there are no known cases of these Israelis applying for Palestinian residency or a Palestinian passport.
Born in Tajikistan before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Andrey Pshenichnikov's parents moved to Russia in search of a better life.
And then the family moved to Israel.
It took only a little while before he discovered the darker side of his new country.
This experience influenced his years as a soldier of the Israeli Defense Forces.
Instead, Andrey Pshenichnikov lived and worked at the Deheishe Refugee Camp near Bethlehem, first in hotels and then in construction.
He is also open to the idea of settling down in Gaza.
Andrey Pshenichnikov says Israeli authorities have black listed him as a terrorist.
And he believes, it's easier to give up his citizenship when he's out of Israel.
He hopes, his decision will set an example and inspire others to follow.
The process to renounce his citizenship could be a lengthy one, one that Andrey Pshenichnikov says he is willing to face.
