Who says you should go to Karbala whenever you are in the mood
Agha Alireza Panahian
What if after the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (âa.j.), they say, âWhoever went on the Arbaeen walk, was effective in preparing for the reappearance.â If your grandchild or child asks you, âDad, did you go on the Arbaeen walk,â what will you answer?
Making a pilgrimage is something serious. You may go to the shrine when you are in the mood. Thatâs nice. You liked to go. When you go to Karbala you should say, âI am ready to help you.â Suddenly, everything becomes serious!
At least you should be able to say, âIf I couldnât go myself, I sent one person and paid his way. He was young and able to go to the shrine of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (âa) so it wouldnât be empty.â âI am ready to help you.â This phrase is a part of the Arbaeen supplication. I have come to help you.
If you canât go yourself, send your child, neighbour, or colleague. Go yourself too. Say, âImam I have come to show and announce my presence, lest my name not be recorded here.â Imam Husayn (âa) is holding a eulogy ceremony himself for Arbaeen.
Shall I give you some strange news? A person may wonder at this until the end of time! Some religious groups hold gatherings during the year, but they donât do anything for Arbaeen. Isnât that interesting? They spend and work hard for their eulogy ceremonies. But, about the eulogy that Imam Husayn (âa) holds himself, they say, âThere are others who will go.â What about you?
Imam Sadiq (âa) saw one of his friends. The Imam (âa) said, âI have heard that there are some people who love us and follow us, who havenât been to Karbala for four years.â The man replied, âMany people are like this!â Imam Sadiq (âa) said, âWhat will these people tell the Prophet of God?â The man said, âHow often should a person go on this pilgrimage?â The Imam said, âPoor people, once a year. Rich people, twice a year.â
Should one go to Karbala based on his mood and when he wants to? Where have they said this? In which tradition has this been written? A soldier should go show and announce his presence.
Because we act like this and look at it in this way, the reappearance still hasnât happened yet. What if after the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (âa.j.), they say, âWhoever went on the Arbaeen walk, was effective in preparing for the reappearance.â If your grandchild or child asks you, âDad, did you go on the Arbaeen walk,â what will you answer? A soldier should go show and announce his presence.
We have advanced in spiritual matters, Itikaf, and making pilgrimages. Praise God, see how many people come to Imam Rezaâs (âa) shrine or to the Jamkaran Mosque. But friends, we still havenât reached the needed growth. Only two million people go on Arbaeen from Iran? How do you justify this? Didnât Imam Hasan Askari (âa) say this is a sign of being our follower? Donât you feel responsible? Where will you be on Arbaeen?!

Relinquishing the Ismails in Our Lives
Agha Alireza Panahian
Many religious people have a problem in this area! The way to test a personâs internal being is for him to ignore an interest. The good interests that you have gained, now you have to sacrifice some of those good interests.
Whenever you decide to do a valuable action, you should pass over one of your interests. Therefore, the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (âa), said, âAny sin is accompanied by desire. Any act of obedience is accompanied with feelings of aversion and hardship.â With this design that the Almighty God has made within us, He has created the opportunity for testing.
So, if we resist our desires and bad interests, activate our good interests, and taste the enjoyment of good interests, will we live happily? No my dear! One should oppose his or her good desires for better desires!
After you have become good, will everything be solved? No, then itâs time to sacrifice the good interests that you have gained. Many religious people have a problem in this area!
Satan didnât want to open up a bar! He didnât want to act like a gangster! He said, âInstead of this prostrating, Iâll pray 2 thousand years for You.â
One might say, âOne has to resist his bad interests for his good interests! He has to oppose his lesser interests for more valuable and higher interests!â No my dear! One should oppose his or her good desires for better desires! Which good interests? Give an example.
For example, you love your Ali Akbar (the son of Husayn (âa)). Now you must sacrifice your Ali Akbar. Or, you are Ibrahim. And, you love your Ismail. Now sacrifice your Ismail.
In this world, the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (âa), loved to protect Hazrat Fatimah Zahra (s) more than anything else. But, the situation required that because of God he not use his sword to defend Hazrat Fatimah (âa) due to superior interests. And this anguish remained with him till the end of his life. It wasnât easy for him!
It is for this part of the story that we gather to read eulogies about tragedies. The way to test a personâs internal being is for him to ignore an interest. The good interests that you have gained, now you have to sacrifice some of those good interests. One should oppose his or her good desires for better desires! And, this continues until the last moment!

What can I do not to sin?Clip
Agha AliReza Panahian Nov.02, 2019
What can I do not to sin? What can I do to fear God? In order to be religious, people should first be trained to have a program and to plan. Help him or her to understand that we have to be disciplined. We must plan in addition to being disciplined, so that we can manage our own lives. They have told us repeatedly about this fact in the traditions that discipline is first.
You prove God to me a hundred times, and I still donât listen to him. You prove the Hereafter and other things too, and I still donât obey, because my will has become stubborn. I canât listen! I havenât been disciplined.
If we want to convince someone not to sin, the first step is to convince him that he canât live without a program. Being without a program means being passive. A passive person doesnât get up until heâs kicked. God hasnât brought Hell to kick him now! Itâs for later. So, he doesnât do anything! Heâll only get up if heâs kicked!
His temperament is such that his life is without any program. He does things when heâs forced to, threatened, encouraged, or someone is standing over his head. He doesnât know how to live based on a program at all! If you keep telling him about Hell, itâs useless! This Hell isnât now. Itâs later on. This undisciplined person without any program wonât move himself because of a future Hell. Heâll move whenever heâs kicked. An undisciplined person wonât move himself because of a future Hell.
If my child doesnât pray, what can I do to get him or her to pray? Iâm confused and donât know what to do. Where should I start? Have you taught your child the key, necessary element in life, which is discipline? We ill-manneredly eat, say Salam, sleep, wake up, walk, dress... Ill-mannered, ill-mannered, ill-mannered! If a child isnât disciplined, can you turn him into a disciplined person?
Itâs easy to add one or two etiquettes to a disciplined person. He observes the etiquettes about neighbors, about sleeping and being awake, about his own room, and about other things. Itâs not hard if you add a couple more etiquettes. He says, âWhat should I do?â âObserve the etiquettes about the Lord.â âWhat are they?â âStand like this and say âAllahu Akbar.â Donât move for five minutes. Prostrate. Bend. Stand up. These are its etiquettes.â Heâll understand and do it. Itâs not hard.
Itâs hard for the child who has no discipline in his house. Thereâs kindness, but no discipline. Thereâs belief in God, but no discipline. Thereâs spirituality, but no discipline. It wonât work with just these! Iâm not talking about whether dancing is forbidden, or not. Whether vulgar songs are vulgar, or not. Or, from what age should we teach children the differences between genders? Iâm not talking about Islamic covering and other such things.
People who donât want discipline for children in Elementary Schools are criminals. The argument is not over religion! Everyone needs a plan to live. And, this planning should be in a personâs blood. For planning to be in a personâs blood, he or she must have been disciplined in childhood. This discipline may be that of the Communists, the East, or the West. But, there should be discipline! The politicians who advocate unruliness in the education environment are criminals.
In order to convince someone not to sin, we must first convince them that we cannot live without a program. Why do you talk to a person about religion when he\'s not used to living with a program? Itâs easy to add one or two etiquettes to a disciplined person. A Hundred Times More Affectionate
God divided affection into 100 parts. He kept 99 parts for Himself and gave one part to people. He divided that one part into 100 pieces and gave 99 parts of it to the âGuardians.â He gave one part to all the people who are living together affectionately. For example, affectionate people are mothers towards their children.
We sometimes become worried for a mother whose child, for example, has been killed or tortured in front of her. If such a story gets into the news or social media today, the entire world will discuss it. They say, âSee how brutally they have killed a child in front of his or her mother.â
How much does a mother love her child? How much does the Imam of the Time (âa.j.) love his nation? It is obvious that they canât be compared. So arenât the massacres that happen in the world sorrowful for the Imam? Those who cry for the absence and loneliness of the Imam of the Time (âa.j.) havenât done anything special. This is very natural. Because they are crying for a heart, which is full of sympathy. It is full of sympathy for even all the mothers of the world. They cry for the heart, which is broken.
The affection of the Imam for one person is 100 times more than the affection of a mother for her beloved child. If a tragedy or oppression happens in a corner of the world, isnât this a huge incident for that kind heart? If a person is not so selfish, heâll see itâs more important than our own concerns. More important than all the concerns I have in my life, are his concerns. There is no news more important than the news about the Imam of the Time (âa.j.) in the world. There is no sorrow above the sorrow of Sayyid al-Shuhada (âa) in this world for a person to care about.
Some peopleâs love for the âGuardians from Godâ has reached to where all their concerns are them. Their concern is, âWhat situation are the âFriends of Godâ in now?â The reappearance of the Imam of the Time (âa.j.) has been realized in some peopleâs hearts. The Imam governs their hearts. Here we should say, âHazrat Mahdi (âa.j.) has appeared in our hearts. â
Some peopleâs love for the âGuardians from Godâ has reached to where all their concerns are them.
