[19 May 2012] 'UN observers in Syria cannot be trusted - News Analysis - English
Two failed US-backed Security Council resolutions vetoed by Russia and China, promised reforms by Damascus, a new constitution, Kofi Annan's 6-point peace plan followed by a fragile cease-fire and a flock of UN observers and most recently multi party parliamentary elections, all of those have been decisive factors over the past year or so in Syria. But is the Syrian solution gradually turning into the Syrian conundrum as the U-S and its Arab allies are arming groups fighting the government with significantly more and better weapons in recent weeks?

[1] Palestinians mark 64th anniversary of Nakba - Comment - 17 May 2012 - English
George: It's the 64th commemoration of the Nakba, the catastrophe when Palestine was wiped off the map by the so called state of Israel. Palestinians in their hundreds of thousands were driven out of their country, most of them never to return. Those hundreds of thousands are now millions, who are scattered around the region and around the world as refugees, as exiles, without passports or papers or status, but one thing they have not lost and that is the determination to return to their homes.

[20 May 2012] 64th anniversary of Nakba Day - Remember Palestine - English
15th of May will see Palestinians commemorate the 64th anniversary of Nakba Day; where over 750,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed and 400 Palestinian villages destroyed to form the illegal State of Israel. The same day where Palestinians will be mourning their dead, Israeli's will celebrate their Independence Day- the formation of occupied territories that were created by force and aggression to form a land with Jewish majority. Sixty-four years have passed however; Palestine is still under the illegitimate occupation of the Israelis and their supporters- Palestinians are still faced with Zionist hostilities, daily torment and anguish. The Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe) isn't over - for the Palestinians the ethnic cleansing never ended. The refugees are still barred from their homeland; Palestinians are being forced from their land to make way for Israeli settlements, and the Israeli administration have even stated that they don't want Palestinians to exceed 30% of the population of Jerusalem.

We are making peaceful use of nuclear energy as a committed member of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran insists. Since 20 years ago, Israel and the US have been talking about an imminent Iranian nuclear weapon. This, while the US National Intelligence Estimates since 2007 do not give credence to the allegations American leaders are making against Tehran.

[24 May 2012] What is view of Islam on building Christian churches in Muslim lands - English
A recent fatwa issued by a Wahhabi mufti calls for destruction of all churches in the Arabian Peninsula. He issued the fatwa in late March 2012 in response to a Kuwaiti lawmaker who asked if Kuwait could ban church construction in Kuwait. The fatwa paves the way for adding an article to the new Kuwaiti constitution that forbids building of new churches. Ahl al-Bait assembly condemns the fatwa saying that it is contrary to both Shia and Sunni traditions, and has no precedence in Islamic jurisprudential schools.
The assembly also slams the "deadly silence" of Muslim scholars in the face of such fatwa that distort the image of Islam. It also criticizes international human right organizations as well as Western and Christian governments for their support of Saudi regime and Wahhabi doctrine. The chairman of a group of European Catholic Bishops slams the Saudi Mufti by saying that his fatwa "shows no respect for the religious freedom and free co-existence of religions". This week's Islam and Life asks: What is the view of Islam on building Christian churches in Muslim lands?

Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Morsi seems to be leading in the latest count of the polls in the first round of the first popular presidential election in Egypt since the former dictator Hosni Mubarak step down. The next and the final round will most probably be a face-off between Morsi and former Prime minister of Mubarak's regime, Ahmed Shafiq, who seems to be coming in second according to the Muslim Brotherhood's counts. In any case observers believe this is the first step to real popular representation in Egypt.

[26 May 2012] US accomplice to Bahraini regime's crimes - English
The Bahraini regime forces backed by troops from Saudi Arabia have once again attacked protesters in the tiny Persian Gulf littoral state. Security forces on Friday fired teargas and sound grenades at the demonstrating crowds in several towns and villages around the Bahraini capital, Manama. Clashes then erupted between government forces and the pro-democracy protesters demanding the ouster of the Al Khalifa regime. Several people were injured during the demonstrations. The protesters also voiced their anger at the US government for its support of the Manama regime. Anti-American sentiments are high in Bahrain after Washington announced earlier this month that it would resume arms sales to Bahrain. However, Bahraini opposition groups and activists condemned the decision, saying it could encourage further human rights violations in the Persian Gulf country.

A strategic partnership that would provide a framework for Afghanistan's future relationship with the US: Signed by presidents of the US and Afghanistan, and just ratified in the Afghan parliament: Even the name, however, sets the framework for US presence in Afghanistan: Enduring Strategic Partnership Agreement, which, when broken down, would ensure presence of American forces in the country though 2014 and even beyond. In this news analysis, we will look at why a US troop withdrawal and handover to Afghan forces may be just cosmetic, and why facts on the ground indicate a much longer US presence in that country, such as their numerous military bases.
