Martyred professor, Allameh Morteza Motahhari, was born on February 2, 1919 in the town of Fariman, 75 kilometers from the holy city of Mashhad. At the age of twelve, he set off for Mashhad seminary to embark on learning the basics of Islamic sciences. In 1937, despite Reza Khanâs intense confrontation with clergymen and also opposition by some of his friends and relatives, he left for Qom seminary to complete his studies.
During 15 years of his stay in Qom, he benefited from the presence of Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi (in jurisprudence and the principles of jurisprudence), Imam Khomeini (12 years in the philosophy of Molla Sadra, gnosis, ethics and principles of jurisprudence) and Allameh Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Tabatabaiee (in philosophy). He had also benefited from the presence of the late Ayatollah Haj Mirza Ali Aqa Shirazi in ethics and gnosis. Among other teachers of professor Motahhari mention can be made of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Hojjat (in principles of jurisprudence) and the late Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Mohaqqeqdamad (in jurisprudence). While he was in Qom, in addition to education, he participated in socio-political affairs as well and he was in contact with Fadaiyan-e-Eslam group.
In 1952, he migrated to Tehran though he was one of the renowned teachers and among the future hopes of the seminary. In Tehran, he taught at Marvi School and delivered well-researched speeches. In 1955, the first session of the exegesis of the holy Qurâan in the Students\\\' Islamic Association was held by professor Motahhari. In the same year, he began teaching at the faculty of divinity and Islamic teachings of Tehran University. In 1958-59 concurrent with the establishment of the Physicians\\\' Islamic Association, professor Motahhari was one of the main speakers of the Association and during 1961-1971 he was the only speaker of the Association leaving behind a number of important deliberations.
In 1962, with the start of Imam Khomeiniâs uprising, professor Motahhari accompanied him to the extent that one can consider the organizing of the June 5th uprising in Tehran and its coordination with Imam Khomeiniâs leadership as being indebted to him and his companions. Having given an enlightening speech against the Shah on Wednesday, 5th of June 1963, Ayatollah Motahhari was detained by the police at 1 a.m. and sent to the interim police headquarters and was imprisoned with a number of Tehrani clergymen. 43 days later, following the migration of Ulema from other provinces to Tehran and public pressure, he was freed together with other clergymen.
After the formation of groups called âMoâtalefe Eslamiâ, which was among the combatant groups of the time, Imam Khomeini called on martyr Motahhari to lead these groups along with a number of clergymen.
Following Imam Khomeini\\\'s exile, professor Motahhari and his companions shouldered a heavier responsibility. At that time, he wrote books covering social requirements and delivering speeches at universities, the Physicians\\\' Islamic Association and mosques. Professor Motahhari made a lot of ideological efforts to Islamicize the content of the movement and strongly fought against diversions and falsehoods. In 1967, he established Hosseinieh Ershad with the help of some friends.
In 1969, after releasing an announcement signed by him, Allameh Tabatabai and Ayatollah Haj Seyyed Abolfazl Mojtahed Zanjani calling for collection of aid for the displaced Palestinians and because of publicizing it during a speech in Hosseinieh Ershad, he was detained and held in solitary confinement for a short while. From 1970-72 he supervised publicity works by Al-jawad mosque where he was the main speaker until the mosque and the Hosseinieh were closed and professor Motahhari was detained for a while. Later, Ayatollah Motahhari gave speeches at Javid, Ark and a number of other mosques. After a while Javid mosque was also closed. Around the year 1974 he was forbidden to speak which lasted till the triumph of the Islamic revolution.
Presenting genuine Islamic ideology through teaching, speech and writing books were among the valuable activities of professor Motahhari reaching its climax particularly during the years 1972-78; since in those years the leftists had increased their propaganda and groups of leftist Muslims and also those with a hotchpotch of ideas had emerged. After Imam Khomeini, professor Motahhari was the first figure who found out the ideological deviation of the heads of the so-called âMojahedin-e-Khalqâ organization and prevented others from cooperating with them and even foresaw their change of ideology. In those years, upon Imam Khomeiniâs recommendation, professor Motahhari traveled to Qom twice a week to teach at its seminary where he taught important courses and at the same time he taught some courses at home in Tehran. In 1976, following an ideological dispute with a communist teacher of the faculty of divinity, he became retired prematurely. Furthermore; in those years Ayatollah Motahhari, in collaboration with some clergymen, established âJameye Rohaniat-e-Mobarezâ of Tehran hoping that such an institution would be gradually established in other cities as well.
Although professor Motahhariâs contact with Imam Khomeini continued after the Imamâs exile in France via letters and other means, in the year 1976 he managed to travel to the holy city of Najaf and consulted with Imam Khomeini on the important issues of the revolution and also seminaries. After the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Mostafa Khomeini and the start of the new phase of the Islamic revolution, professor Motahhari fully devoted himself to the revolution and hence played a fundamental role in all of its phases.
At the time of Imam Khomeiniâs stay in Paris, Ayatollah Motahhari traveled to France where he spoke with the Imam on the important issues of the revolution and it was then that Imam Khomeini urged him to shape the Islamic Revolution Council. Upon Imam Khomeiniâs return to Iran, he personally took the responsibility of the welcoming committee and till the victory of the revolution and after that he always acted as a supporter of the leader of the Islamic revolution and served as a kind and trusted advisor for him. But at 22:20 p.m. of Tuesday, 1st of May 1979 he was martyred by a grouplet called âForqanâ after leaving an ideological and political gathering. This caused profound sorrow and grief for Imam Khomeini and the Islamic Ummah who had a lot of hopes for this great manâs future.
There remain tens of works by Ayatollah Motahhari. These works deal with a variety of religious issues and offer responses to many of the important questions of religious society so much so that we can name his works as a reliable source concerning the Islamic ideology system.
Some of Imam Khomeiniâs Words on Martyr Allameh Morteza Motahhari
[Motahhari] was rare in Islamology and different Islamic and Qurâanic sciences. I have lost a very dear child. I am mourning for him who was one of the figures who was considered the fruit of my life. Martyrdom of this righteous child and immortal clergyman created a vacuum in the dear Islam that cannot be filled by any means.
Motahhari, who was rare in purifying spirit, the strength of belief and the power of speech, flew to the ethereal world, but the ill-wishers should know that his Islamic, scientific and philosophical personality wonât perish with his departure.
Motahhari was a dear child for me and a firm stronghold for the religious and scientific seminaries and a useful servant for people and country.
I recommend the students and the committed intellectuals not to let this dear professorâs books be forgotten by non-Islamic schemes.
In his short life, [Motahhari] left behind immortal works which stemmed from a wakeful conscience and a spirit filled with the love for religion. He embarked on educating and training the society with an eloquent style and an able thought in analyzing Islamic subjects and explaining philosophical facts with a popular diction and without uncertainty. His oral and written works are unexceptionally instructive and inspiring; and his advice and admonitions, which sprang from a heart filled with faith and belief, are useful both for the Ulema and the laymen.
Late Motahhari was an individual who had different aspects of personality; and few people have done the service to the young generation and others as Motahhari has done. All his works are unexceptionally good and I donât know anybody else whose works I could call unexceptionally good. His works are unexceptionally good and constructive for humans.
Professor Motahhari from the Viewpoint of Ayatollah Khamenei
Interview with the Supreme Leader on Martyr Motahhari
âI consider myself Mr. Motahhariâs pupilâ
As you know late professor Motahhari was a philosopher; the science sought by him was mostly the philosophical science. Later on; however, he got to the subjects of theology, i.e. he dealt with Islamic issues with new argumentation method of modern philosophy. But he spent most of his time on philosophical matters. He was considered the philosophical student of Imam Khomeini and Allameh Tabatabaiee. Thus what he maintains in theology is Hekmat Motaâaliah, i.e. the Philosophy of Molla Sadra.
His behaviour was like that of the mystics who would set out to find a perfect instructor. Basically his spiritual and moral condition was in such a way. He would search to know for example if a perfect elderly instructor is somewhere in the world, and he would go to him to stay by him. Indeed, spiritually, such a situation was fitting him. Yet he had found such a perfect instructor in Iran. He was absorbed in Imam Khomeini and Allameh Tabatabaiee. He was captivated by their love and regarded their scientific and mystic status very high.
Morally, late Motahhari was a prominent man; and a pure-hearted, enlightened, just, self-possessed and mature person. In his personal bonds with God he was a mystic, a man of Godâs remembrance, journey towards God and worship. He used to say: âI have learnt paying attention to and worship of God from my father.â
Professor Motahhari had a lot of historical information especially about the recent history, and particularly on the issues related to the Ulema, seminaries, scientific, spiritual, philosophical and mystic figures. These pieces of information were not registered in any book and are heard from the professors and great figures and kept in mind. Since he knew all professors and Ulema of Najaf, Samarra and Isfahan, he was well-informed about their events and he would talk of them in the gatherings and visits held on different occasions.
Supereme Leaderâs Words on Professor Motahhariâs Personality and Works
âAs time passes from his martyrdom, his spiritual and ideological works and bounties manifest more fresh dimensions. The ideological and scientific works of that grand clergyman become clearer in the scene of the country press and religious knowledge; and one understands that an intellectual clergyman with responsibilities could have so fruitful life.â
Martyr Motahhari with his strong and decent thought stepped in the fields of Islamic subjects that hitherto nobody had stepped; and considering the ideas that had prevailed or were going to prevail in the country---through translation and import from the west and east, he entered a profound, vast and interminable scientific challenge. He both embarked on a very clever struggle to confront with the Marxists and entered the scene to confront with the western and Liberalist thoughts. This role is very important; it needs both courage and self-confidence, it requires both thinking strength and Ijtihad (being well- qualified in jurisprudence and different theological fields), it both needs certainty and resolute belief. This great man had all these together; he was both a learned man and very faithful, he was firm in his belief and had self-confidence, too; these are all necessary.â
Leaderâs Visit with Martyr Motahhariâs Family (1996)
He had three characteristics regarding ideological issues: First, he had a strong thought and he was a true thinker. Secondly, while presenting and spreading the ideological principles, he had no intention but Godâs nearness, promotion of the truth and fighting against the false. There was sincerity in him and his personal actions which would naturally make the second characteristic tangible. For example think of some people who are thinkers, yet do not present their thought for Godâs sake, but they present it to show that they are knowledgeable, to draw peopleâs attention and to say that they are philosophers. Martyr Motahhari was not such. He would present thought for Godâs sake and for Islam. He would truly burn up [like a candle] and would gush forth [like a fountain] and would present [Islamic ideas]. The reason for his survival is his second characteristic. It means that sincerity will have its impact and the Almighty God will grace any deed done with sincerity. The third characteristic was his working hard and his inexhaustibility.
The truth is that he wouldnât sit till he might be referred to; but rather he would himself go after activity. He had these three characteristics.â
Leaderâs Visit with Martyr Motahhariâs Family (1998)
âWe should introduce Mr. Motahhari to the world especially the Islamic world. And if we want to introduce him, which points should be highlighted? I think this is your most important job. Some aspects of a figureâs personality are either unique that must be highlighted or are very outstanding that should be stressed.
In the life of the late Martyr Ayatollah Motahhari, his personality and his scientific identity there are numerous examples of these. One point, that in my opinion has the prime importance, is the new interpretation of the Islamic teachings. This is apart from his philosophical aspect and his strong and compelling arguments in the footnotes of âThe principles of philosophyâ by âAyatollah Tabatabaiee. This is another point. He elucidated Islamic concepts and teachings with a novel diction and expression which was much needed. I donât say that if the works of the predecessors were pondered and scrutinized signs of this exegesis would not be found. Really if one had attentively studied the works of the Ulema he would have found some hints and cues; but I want to say that nobody had done this. As far as we know, nobody had done it before Mr. Motahhari. Even the modernist writers, who had emerged in the Arab countries, and we knew some of them, had not done this. These Egyptian authors, who were modernists and would write things with a broader sight and who knew the world somewhat more than Martyr Motahhari, most of them had traveled a lot and had visited different universities. Yet he [Ayatollah Motahhari] was not so, he was confined. I mean he was inside Iran and Tehran but his profound vision of the Islamic issues and his novel understanding of the verses [of Qurâan] and the narrations [of the Ahl-ul-Bayt], in my opinion, was one of his most outstanding aspects. It was he who, for the first time, substantively expressed the subjects related to principles of ideology, piety, patience, love, fairness, justice, and so on in the ideological atmosphere of Iran.
We thank God that Mr. Motahhariâs name was not forgotten in our society and the mental atmosphere of this country; but rather it became more prominent day by day. Many of the world phenomena are naturally perishable and by the lapse of time they become older. Most of the world phenomena are such. Yet there are some phenomena that not only do not fall into oblivion via lapse of time but become brighter, more manifest, more spectacular and more impressive. The phenomena based on reality are usually such. I clearly feel that, thank God, Martyr Ayatollah Motahhariâs thoughts are such.â
Memoirs of Dr. Ali Motahhari (Martyr Motahhariâs Son)
Night Supplication in front of the Word Allah
As it is said he didnât give up midnight vigilance, midnight prayer, and wakefulness since his youth till the end of his life. It was his practice both at the time of studentship and after that and even at the time of martyrdom. I remember that facing our house there was the house of one of the previous regimeâs officials which was usually guarded by two police officers. Apparently since the official had seen that the lamp of our house was lit at midnight, had worried to find the reason and it was important for him from the security point of view. He had told the guards to look for the reason. Professor [Motahhari] had a neon board of Allah which was green when lit. He would turn it on and perform his midnight prayer in its light. After the revolution one of the officers said, we had examined several nights and I had looked through the window to see what was going on inside the house. At the end I myself saw that he came at midnight and started worshipping for an hour. We were somehow absorbed by the professor, and despite much negative propaganda against the clergymen and him in particular to make us pessimist to them, we became very interested in him so much so that some would say we got our salary from the government but it was as if we were guarding him.
A Voice vis-Ă -vis MHe was very sensitive against ideological deviations and believed that we were seeking Islamic revolution and not mere revolution. It is not important that Shah goes but it is important to see what system is established after his going. Because if after the ouster of the Shah, for example the Mojahedin-e-Khalq take the lead, it is much better not to stage a revolution at all. Thus the deviated groups had found out professor Motahhariâs sensitiveness and had become his enemy. Three or four months before the victory of the Islamic revolution, a person, who had some tendencies to Mojahedin-e-Khalq and the leftists and was intended to be religious, too, was freed from the prison. Professor [Motahhari] said we had better visit him. I was with the professor. There was a man by the name of Ashuri as one of the heads of the Forqan group. He spoke of Islam and Marxism and said: âThese two religions say one single thing and their content is the same with different forms. They speak of the laborers and we speak of the oppressed. Therefore our word is the same. We should unite to topple the regime of Shah and basically there is no difference between Islam and Marxism, etc.â Professor was very upset and that man knew that professor Motahhari would answer him. Thatâs why he rose to leave. The professor said: âNo, Be seated! Be seated!â He made him sit and explained him in detail that our path is fundamentally separate from that of the Marxists. In no way can the forms be different with the same content. And we cannot unite with the Marxists in any way.
Immortal among People
Prior to the victory of the Islamic revolution, at the time of Imam Khomeiniâs staying in Paris, it was heard everywhere that the regime of Shah wanted to arrest the leaders and prominent figures of the revolution.
Some people told him [Ayatollah Motahhari] it was better to go somewhere else to hide. He said: âSuch actions are not good for clergymen. It is not good for us to escape from one place to another to hide; such things are not good for us.â He stayed at home like before and nothing happened.
His Method of Training Children
One of the features of the professorâs training method for his children was that he would never resort to force and coercion and he would let them to realize and choose the right path with their own thought and wisdom. About choosing the field of education and the way of spending leisure time and the like he would never force us to do something necessarily; but he would show us the way. As the holy Qurâan says: ââŠbe he grateful or ungrateful.â And it was we who would choose the way. There was never force over our heads and we would choose one way with interest and free will.
The Professorâs Arrest after anti-Israel Speech
I have another memory from the year 1969 when he delivered the provocative speech on Palestine in Hosseinieh Ershad. This speech has been broadcast many times by IRIB. It was a very provocative, important and interesting speech which shook the regime of Shah; and it required a lot of courage to deliver such a speech when the regime of Shah was in the zenith of power and had the highest level of relations and unity with Israel. When the Israeli planes would refuel in Iranâs airport(s) during the 1967 war and would fly over the heads of the Arabs and Muslims, much bravery was needed to give such a speech and we saw that professor Motahhari gave that speech and was promptly arrested and taken away. When he was freed he said, âThey made me sit in a car and blindfolded me and the car set out. I told them there is no need to blindfold and I will not look. If you want me not to look I will close my eyes. But they didnât agree. Yet I realized the route till Ferdowsi square but didnât realize after that.â Apparently they had taken him to the committee of the SAVAK which was presumably located in the same Ferdowsi Street.
Allameh Tabatabaieeâs Message on the Occasion of Ayatollah Motahhariâs Martyrdom
In the name of the Almighty God
In memory of a scientific and philosophical personality who cast a world into grief and made the world of science and merit mournful with his departure.
Late Motahhari, who was a scientist, a thinker and a researcher with an overflowing intellect, a bright thought and a realistic mind, has left behind marvelous works and researches written about scientific and argumentative purposes that are seen in his books.
Late Motahhari, through his precious and blissful life that was abundant with scientific effort and philosophical thinking, sends an expressive and valuable message to the enthusiasts of science and philosophy never to repose from effort towards perfection and never forget scientific struggle for perfection; and in the market of realities turn their life--which is the best human commodity-- to the spiritual lifeâ which is the lofty human life and is lasting till the world exists; and not to be absorbed and deceived by fabricated and imaginary personalities in this short life.
Yes, a narrow route opened by a scientist towards realities will bestow eternal life upon him and this is more valuable than the world and what it contains.

âWe should introduce Mr.

Birth and family life[edit]
He was born on the tenth of Rajab, 195 AH. His mother was Khaizaran, also known as Sabika,[5] a woman from the family of Maria al-Qibtiyya.
Hakima, the sister of Ali ar Rida, is reported saying that on the night of al-Taqiâs birth her brother advised her to be present beside his wife. According to a tradition, al-Taqi at his birth looked at the sky and uttered confirmation of the Oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad and Walaya of Imam Ali.
Early maturity[edit]
He undertook the responsibility of Imamate at the age of eight years.
He was a child when his father was killed. He did not act upon childish or whimsical impulses and he accepted adult responsibility and behaviors at an early age. His possession of extraordinary knowledge at a young age is similar to that of the Islamic tradition of Jesus â a figure called to leadership and prophetic mission while still a child.[6]
The story of Mamun al-Rashid\'s first meeting with Imam Muhammad Jawad (as) is interesting. Once Mamun was passing a street in Baghdad with his soldiers. When the other children saw the caliph, they ran away but Imam Jawad (as) did not.
Noting this, Mamun al-Rashid stopped his carriage and asked, \"Young man, why did you not run away like the other children?\"
Imam Jawad replied calmly, \"For the following two reasons: Neither had I committed a crime, nor was I blocking the way. Why should I have run away or be afraid? And I also know that you will not cause any unnecessary trouble when your way is not blocked, and your horses may go around me.\"
Mamun al-Rashid was surprised with this mature reply and asked, \"What is your name?\"
\"Muhammad,\" came the reply. \"Whose son are you?\" asked Mamun al-Rashid. \"Son of Ali.\"
\"Ali son of who?\" said Mamun, \"Son of Musa, son of Jafar, son of Muhammad, son of Ali, son of Husayn, brother of Hasan, son of Ali the cousin and successor to Muhammad the Messenger of God\"
Mamun al-Rashid became even more surprised at the latter answer and rode on. During his hunt the hawk returned to him with a small fish in its beak. He returned toward the city. Once again, he found this young man who said he was Muhammad son of Imam Ali Ridha (as) who remained where he was left.
Mamun stopped his carriage near Imam Jawad (as) and said, \"What does this hawk do for me?\", then he changed his mind and hid the fish in his fist and said \"No, instead tell me, what is there in my fist?\"
Imam Jawad (as) replied, \"Allah has created tiny fish in the river. The hawks of kings sometimes catch fish from there and bring it to the Kings. These kings hide it in their fist and ask a member of the Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet, \"Tell me what is there in my fist.\"
Mamun al-Rashid said, \"Truly, you are the worthy son of Imam Ali Ridha (as). Mamun al-Rashid took the young Imam Jawad (as) with him, and let him live in a nearby house next to the Royal Palace.
Since Imam Muhammad Jawad inherited the responsibility of Imamate at a very small age, people became suspicious of his ability to lead the Muslim Ummah. To clear this misconception Yahya ibn Aktham who was serving as the Chief Justice of the Abbasid empire and was the most learned man of that time was called by Mamun al-Rashid to test his knowledge. Muhammad al-Taqi was asked a question concerning Islamic jurisprudence. The Imam was asked, \"What is atonement for a person who hunts a game while he is dressed in the pilgrimage garb (âAhram).\" Muhammad al-Taqi responded by saying, \"Your question is utterly vague and lacks definition. You should first clarify : whether the game killed was outside the sanctified area or inside it; whether the hunter was aware of his sin or did so in ignorance; did he kill the game purposely or by mistake, was the hunter a slave or a free man, was he adult or minor, did he commit the sin for the first time or had he done so before, was the hunted game a bird or something else, was it a small animal or a big one, is the sinner sorry for the misdeed or does he insist on it, did he kill it secretly at night or openly during daylight, was he putting on the pilgrimage garb for Hajj or for the Umra? Unless you clarify and define these aspects, how can you have a definite answer?\"[7]
According to Twelver Shiâah Islam, the Imams are perfectly able to give judgment on all matters of religious law and their judgment is always legally correct. To that end Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (as) like the other Imams of Ahl al-Bayt and the Prophets of Islam were born with extraordinary knowledge. To that end it is reported, that during his time in Baghdad he performed incredibly in a public debate with one of the leading scholars of the city, namely Yahya ibn Aktham, and publicly humiliated him.
Marriage and lifestyle during Abbasid rule[edit]
After Al-Ma\'mun had poisoned Ali al-Ridha to death he endeavored to show that the death had come by a natural cause. Al-Ma\'mun also brought al-Jawad (as) from Medina to Baghdad with the plan of marrying him to his daughter, Umul Fazal. Although the Abbasids made strenuous attempts to forestall it, the marriage was duly solemnised.
After living in Baghdad for eight years, al-Taqi and Umul Fazal returned to Medina. There he found his relationship with his wife strained and upon the death of al-Ma\'mun in 833 his fortunes deteriorated. Since Umul Fazal did not have any issues (children) Imam Muhammad Jawad (as) married Soumaneh, who gave him a son and successor, Ali al-Hadi. The successor to his father-in-law, Mamun\'s caliphate, was Al-Mu\'tasim. With the new Abbasid ruler in power al-Jawad (as) was no longer protected and his interests and position were imperilled by the dislike that al-Mu\'tasim had for him.
In 835, al-Mu\'tasim called al-Jawad back to Baghdad. The latter left his son Ali al-Hadi (the tenth Shiâah Imam) with his mother Soumaneh in Medina and set out for Baghdad. He resided there for one more year, becoming a well known scholar and popular in debates.
Death[edit]
There are various accounts of the circumstances of his death.
Ibn Sheher Ashoob records[8] that Al-Mu\'tasim encouraged Umul Fazal to murder him. She duly poisoned him to death on the twenty-ninth of Dhu al-Qi\'dah, 220 Hijra (the 26th year after his birth).
Muhammad at-Taqi is buried beside the grave of his grandfather Musa al-Kadhim (the seventh Shiâah Imam) within Al Kadhimiya Mosque, in Kadhimayn, Iraq â a popular site for visitation and pilgrimage by Shiâa Muslims.

The Secret behind the Special Status of Hazrat Abu al-Fazl al-Abbas (\'a)
Everything for Aba Abdullah al-Husayn (âa) in Karbala was Abbas. Does a person become like this because his hand is cut off? No! Where a person is struck isnât what makes a difference. A personâs body strength isnât what makes a difference. What is it that separates Aba al-Fazl al-Abbas from the rest so much? Intention!
âAnd I will fight with whoever fights with you.â He was thinking about the world. Do you know what Abbasâs intention was that he reached to this height? Saving the entire world! He didnât want less than this.
He was standing with Imam Husayn (âa) and he saw 72 helpers, a few tents, and 30,000 enemies. But, he was thinking about the world, about humankind. He was big. It is not unlikely that on the day of Ashura he was thinking about Imam Mahdiâs (âa.j.) reappearance. He wasnât caught up with small problems.
Look at a part of Aba al-Fazl al-Abbasâs intention. It is obvious that even if we are martyred we will not reach to this point. It is very difficult for a person to have worked on correcting his intention this much. The only person who asked Imam Husayn (âa) in this way to enter the battlefield was Aba al-Fazl al-Abbas (âa). He said, âMy Master, Iâm tired of these hypocrites. Give me permission to go and take revenge.â
You should always have this intention of destroying the enemies of religion somewhere in your heart. Yah! If I could destroy them. Yah! I wish I could strike them hard, O God! Having this intention against them is very purifying and uplifting. See how much the Imamâs (âa) enemies are cursed in the Ashura Supplication? Why should we just send our greetings upon the Imam (âa) with much feeling? âAnd I will fight with whoever fights with you.â (Ashura Supplication)
Do you know what Abal Fazl al-Abbasâs intention was that he reached this level? Saving the entire world. Hating the enemies. This should be a part of our intention.
You have probably heard that tradition about Imam Javad (âa). He would pound his fist on the ground and say, âIâll kill and burn.â He was asked, âWhat? Who? What are you doing? Where are you now?â He said, âThe one who came and burned the door of the house of our mother, Fatimah Zahra (âa).â This means that our mother was pressed between the door and the wall, and thought, âMy sad story will reach my children. The hatred of my enemies will enter their hearts, and they will grow.â What an expense was made for your luminous hearts between the door and the wall. Whoever comes to the Bani Hashim Alley and sees the burned door, wonât leave this alley anymore.
A tradition says, âIf a person doesnât wish to kill the enemies (of Islam) with his sword someday, and he dies, he has died with a kind of hypocrisy.â âIf a person is not in the battlefield, or he doesnât read the tradition about holy war for himself, he will leave this world with a kind of hypocrisy.â (Sahih Muslim, vol. 3, p. 1,517)

The Strategic Role of a Bad Trait
Sometimes there is only one bad trait, but it causes a person to go to Hell. Very simple. It makes a society wretched. This means this evil has a strategic role. Some evils in general have a strategic role. For example, jealousy is strategic.
Amru Aasâs son narrated, âOnce, I was sitting in the Mosque. The Prophet of God (s) said, âWhoever wants to look at a person that will go to Heaven, look at this old man who will enter now. He will definitely go to Heaven.ââ
Amru Aasâs son was a sensitive and astute person. He wondered about him?! He was young. He came to the old manâs house and said, âI have had an argument with my father and donât have a place. Will you let me stay in your house?â The old man accepted.
He stayed there for three days and watched him day and night. He saw that he was a regular person. He couldnât find anything special in him! He prayed, slept, ate, worked, etc. He didnât recite the Qurâan or fast in a special way.
After three days, he told the old man, âIâm sorry. I lied that I said I had an argument with my father. I wanted to watch you closely to see how you are. And I saw that you are a very normal person.â The old man responded, âWas I supposed to be abnormal?â He replied, âThe Prophet (s) said that you will go to Heaven. You have something that we donât.â The old man replied, âThatâs very kind of the Prophet to say so. I donât know.â He asked, âTalk some about your mood and work.â
The old man replied, âI am like âthis and that.ââ Suddenly the old man said, âIf God gives a virtue to anybody, it isnât hard for me.â I say, âHow nice. Good for him. How beautiful.ââ Amru Aasâs son said, âThis is what we are unable to tolerate.â I am unable to tolerate for God to give something to someone with no reason. I say, âWhat about me?!â
Some traits are strategic. Like the trait of jealousy. Actually, what is the first negative trait that is born in a human being? Jealousy starts from the age of three. It bothers the child too. You should have children very close in age, not very close, at least three years between them, so that this child feels jealous, becomes bothered, and learns to pass on it. You vaccinate him or her.
âThis is how it is! You have come into this world to pass the test of jealousy. With your small brother or sister, see how it is. Feel what Cain, Talha, Zubayr, Muâawiah, and Umar Saâd felt. The story started from here. Fight! Fight with your jealousy my little one.â Let your child practice and you help him or her. This is the way it is. Is it possible for God not to tell us to work on such a strategic trait like jealousy every day? Is it possible?
What part of the Qurâan is obligatory to recite every day? Chapter âHamd.â â(Lord), guide us to the right path, the path of those to whom You have granted blessings.â (Qurâan 1:6-7) You didnât feel bad?! God has granted them blessings. What about you? âNo, guide me to their path. Itâs not a problem that He has granted them blessings. Iâm not jealous.â Good job! Good job! ââŠthe path of those to whom You have granted blessings,â means that Iâm not jealous. Actually, Iâm humble in another way too. Not only Iâm not jealous or miserly, but Iâm humble in another way too. What is that? âGuide me to their path.â
Jealousy is the basic theme of Godâs test about religion. Guardianship shows itself there. One of the miracles of our religion is the religious mourning ceremonies for Aba Abdillah al-Husayn, which work on our most basic, strategic, bad trait. In each meeting, your jealousy towards the âGuardiansâ will be struck down so that you wonât become like Cain. It brings us out from being like Cain.
When they talk about Abelâs tragedies, your heart softens and warms so that you wonât become Cain. May I be sacrificed for Husayn (âa) and his children that they were all beaten so much to create this humbleness in us. You will see on the Day of Judgment how much Husayn (âa) has struggled for us. This was Godâs design! This Able (Husayn) that we burn for helps us not to become Cain.

A Hundred Times More Affectionate
God divided affection into 100 parts. He kept 99 parts for Himself and gave one part to people. He divided that one part into 100 pieces and gave 99 parts of it to the âGuardians.â He gave one part to all the people who are living together affectionately. For example, affectionate people are mothers towards their children.
We sometimes become worried for a mother whose child, for example, has been killed or tortured in front of her. If such a story gets into the news or social media today, the entire world will discuss it. They say, âSee how brutally they have killed a child in front of his or her mother.â
How much does a mother love her child? How much does the Imam of the Time (âa.j.) love his nation? It is obvious that they canât be compared. So arenât the massacres that happen in the world sorrowful for the Imam? Those who cry for the absence and loneliness of the Imam of the Time (âa.j.) havenât done anything special. This is very natural. Because they are crying for a heart, which is full of sympathy. It is full of sympathy for even all the mothers of the world. They cry for the heart, which is broken.
The affection of the Imam for one person is 100 times more than the affection of a mother for her beloved child. If a tragedy or oppression happens in a corner of the world, isnât this a huge incident for that kind heart? If a person is not so selfish, heâll see itâs more important than our own concerns. More important than all the concerns I have in my life, are his concerns. There is no news more important than the news about the Imam of the Time (âa.j.) in the world. There is no sorrow above the sorrow of Sayyid al-Shuhada (âa) in this world for a person to care about.
Some peopleâs love for the âGuardians from Godâ has reached to where all their concerns are them. Their concern is, âWhat situation are the âFriends of Godâ in now?â The reappearance of the Imam of the Time (âa.j.) has been realized in some peopleâs hearts. The Imam governs their hearts. Here we should say, âHazrat Mahdi (âa.j.) has appeared in our hearts. â
Some peopleâs love for the âGuardians from Godâ has reached to where all their concerns are them.

Training Children in a Magnanimous Way
Train your children with generosity. Train your children with magnanimity. If they make any mistakes, call them to account a bit later. Or, not at all is even better.
Ayatollah Bahjatâs son said, âWhen my father wanted to tell us something, he would tell a story and we had to think about it to understand what he meant. Sometimes after a few days, we would think, âMaybe he had meant this.â After a few more days, we would realize, âAha! He was saying this.ââ This was his habit. This is the result of having âTaqwa (Piety)!â See how beautiful a person becomes.
His son said, âIn the last days of his life, sometimes he talked about the good death of people. Then, we realized he was readying us for his death. âDeath is nothing! Itâs just like sleeping. When a person gets tired, he sleeps.â Since I knew my father very well, I understood that he was informing us about his leaving. He wouldnât talk directly. He would tell a story and we had to think about it to understand what he meant.
Once, he told this story, âAn honourable scholar lived with his son in one room. That scholar told his son, âShall we put up a curtain in the middle of the room, so that there will be modesty between us?â How modest people were before. These stories are amazing.â I heard this story. I wondered why he suddenly remembered this story. I had to think about what he wanted to say! Then, I thought since it had been a while that I had to sleep in his room due to his infirmity, maybe he meant that I have to put up a curtain. I put up a curtain in the room when he had gone to teach. Later, I asked him, âI have put up a curtain here. Is it good?â He showed his satisfaction.â
This is how it becomes. This is so beautiful! O God! Itâs very beautiful to live like this. For you to treat your child as a person too, donât call him to account whenever he does something wrong. Also, donât encourage him whenever he does something good. Let him stand on his own feet. Always be kind to him.
âYouâre saying we shouldnât encourage our child?!â Always encourage him. Say, âI will always buy you ice cream!â Train your children with magnanimity. Raise them to be magnanimous, so that they will be magnanimous from their childhood.
There is no god, except Allah. Shall we talk about Karbala? The commander of the cursed Yazid said, âYou wonât punish me if I say something? I want to say something good about Husaynâs (âa) family.â He replied, âSay it.â The commander asked, âAm I safe? On the way, we whipped and harassed Husaynâs children very much. But, Husaynâs children didnât say any bad words to us even once. He has trained his family well.â
You have to behave with your children in the same way! This is a method. Learn this method!

CARTA DEL HAJJ QASEM A SU HIJA FATIMA (Fragmento) | Farsi sub Spanish
Me pregunté a mi mismo: ¿Qué camino debo seguir?
Pensé y revisé algunas cuestiones y me pregunté.
ElegĂ a Dios y Su camino.
Estoy tan cansado.

Once a man picked up a few baby birds. He thought, âTheyâre so cute. Let me take them to the Prophet (s).â The mother bird came. She started flying around them. He thought, âIâll take them to the Prophet (s). Their mother is coming too.â He placed the birds in front of the Prophet (s). The Prophet (s) saw their mother and said, âMove back!â Their mother came and threw herself on her baby birds. The Prophet said, âDid you see how this mother bird put herself in danger because of her baby birds? Does she love them?â Everyone said yes. The Prophet (s) said, âGod loves you more than this mother.â
In another story, a mother lost her infant baby. In the middle of a battle, she was crying loudly. When she found her baby, she started nursing him. The Prophet (s) said, âCome here. Does this mother love her baby?â Everyone said, âYes, of course. She did everything to find him.â He asked, âIs she willing to throw him into a fire?â They replied, âO Prophet of God! No, of course not!â He said, âGod is kinder to you than this mother is to her child.â
Donât you enjoy participating in Imam Husaynâs (as) mourning ceremony? So why are you being rewarded for it? Let me ask this in a better way. Why are you given the highest reward? Why? Donât you enjoy? Isnât affection enjoyable? Isnât affection the highest enjoyment? So why are you being rewarded? Do you know why God rewards you? Because God is [kind] like a mom. When a child becomes happy, his/her mom becomes happy too.
When a youth is accepted into the university, his/her mom buys sweets. He/she says, âMom, why do you trouble yourself? Iâve succeeded for myself.â She says, âBecause Iâm your mom. When I see youâre fine, happy and enjoying, I do whatever I can for you.â God is more of a mom than a mom is!
Have fun and be rewarded by God! Why does God reward you when you wake up at dawn? [You might say,] âItâs very hard!â Believe me, its reward is not because itâs hard. The reward is because of the cheerfulness, energy and health that you gain. God is like a mom. When a mom sees her child is successful, she becomes happy. She talks lovingly since she is a mom, âO my dear one!â

Diplomacy is a great tool in the arsenal of any diplomat.
Yet, is diplomacy and negotiations and compromise always a solution to certain problems at hand?
Were not the holy Prophet Muhammad (S), Imam Ali (A), lady Fatima Zahra (A), Imam Hasan (A), and Imam Husayn (A) the best and most perfect of diplomats?
Yet, did they always rely upon diplomacy?
Could have the travesty of Daesh/ISIS been resolved by mere compromise and diplomacy?
Finally, what does the holy Qur\'an, the word of Allah, say when it comes to standing up to tyrants and oppressors?

The cinema is more useful than giving a speech for religion. The Holy Prophet (s) said, âInvite people with tools other than your tongue.â Donât invite people with your tongue. Invite them with your behavior. Behavior can be shown in the cinema. We say many things in speeches, but we are upset that no films have been made about these things. If a film had been made, it could have conveyed the message of ten days of speeches.
Interviewer, âThatâs an interesting point!â
We believe the cinema is something for religion. Although, the majority of films in the history of the cinema may not have been in the interest of religion. This mistake has taken place. I think in the future, the cinema will be much more religious.
Interviewer, âSo you consider the cinema to be something for religion?â
Films are a tool for conveying messages that cannot easily be conveyed in words. And religion needs films more. The cinema is more useful for religion than it is for other things. The cinema helps people experience things they donât usually experience. The cinema shouldnât show those experiences that everyone has experienced.
Interviewer, âWhat Iâve often heard some people saying is that the cinema is a technology coming from the west! And there is no need forâŠâ
I do not accept this view. Before being the product of western technology and culture, with all its weak points, it is the result of human beingsâ wisdom, thought and need. Human beings are seekers.«ÛÙ۱ÙÛŰŻÙ Ű§ÙÙŰ„ÙÙÙŰłÙۧÙÙ ÙÙÛÙÙÙŰŹÙŰ±Ù ŰŁÙÙ

ÙÙÙ» [Qurâan 75:5]
He wants to remove the screens blocking his eyes. He wants to do this with the cinema screen. The cinema can be a window to the world around us that we donât have access to. The fact that this window is being abused by many is another matter. So the nature of cinema can be very religious. It can serve religion very much. We expect a film, a TV serial and other such things to show some truths to people to speed up their movement on the path of growth in life. We expect the cinema to serve not just religion, but to serve human beings much more than this.
This is doable without discussing religious matters or showing pictures of the domes of the shrines. This is doable without a movie being directly religious or being about the Friends of God or historical religious figures. This is doable without making a movie about a Mosque and the place for praying. The cinema can help human beings grow very much.

Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei narrates and explains a tradition narrated from Imam Ja\'far al-Sadiq (A), who narrates from his ancestor, the Commander of the Believers, Amirul Mo\'mineen, Imam Ali ibne Abi Talib (A).
What happens to a deed or an action when it is accompanied with Taqwa?
Can one consider a deed that is incredibly small to be insignificant if it is accompanied by Taqwa?
And likewise, what happens to a deed if it doesn\'t have Taqwa?
Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei expounds upon the words of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali ibne Abi Talib (A).

A Special Mindset for the Nights of Power (Laylatul Qadr)
Why donât we take full advantage of Godâs Kindness? We are prevented from benefiting from Godâs Mercy because we count on ourselves. This barrier is arrogance, being conceited about our possessions and achievements.
We never talk to God as if we are a criminal, cutthroat, villain. No, we talk to God as if we are honorable people, âGod, as You are aware, Iâm obviously one of Your good servants. And I havenât had a fault thus far. But, I decided to turn to You tonight to say if You want to grant me more blessings, sure, I agree! Yes, I have some faults. It is possible I havenât done as much as I should.â This person is the epitome of arrogance. This person is not able to benefit from Godâs Mercy.
During the Nights of Power (Qadr) I like to go amongst the crowd of worshippers and see who has come for the first time, a person who has a history of serious wrongdoing! And, he is too embarrassed to talk. People ask him, âSir, would you like a Qurâan?â When he wants to take the Qurâan, he thinks, âIâm too embarrassed to touch it. I have nothing, absolutely nothing to say.â
If I find such a person during the Nights of Power, Iâll go and stand behind him. Iâll say, âGod, whatever you grant him, grant to me too.â He doesnât have a trace of arrogance. He has no pretentiousness at all. Others go back home happily. But, this person is still standing. Towards the end, he will say, âGod, did You look at me too?â This kind of person will make use of Godâs Mercy that night.
Benefiting from Godâs Mercy is very hard. Why? Because we count on ourselves. Donât count on yourself. Are you able to go to a gathering of worshippers to repent like that criminal? You wonât go. Youâd say, âItâs impossible. Is it possible?! Thank God, Iâm not that bad either.â
We are even proud of our deeds, which we havenât done! At least he has done some good deeds. We tell ourselves, âWe still have time until the end of the Month of Ramadan.â âTill the end of the month?! But, you havenât done anything yet!â âIâll do something. Donât worry!â
We are prevented from benefiting from Godâs Mercy because we count on ourselves. What should we do to stop counting on ourselves? The supplications narrated from the Household of the Prophet (âa) are excellent opportunities. A supplication says, âGod, even if I had done a good deed, I shouldnât have relied on it. I should have relied on Your Grace. And now, I havenât even done that good deed. So, I must only rely on Your Grace. What should I do if You donât look at me?â

In such a stifling environment created by the Umayyad dynasty, how did Imam Sajjad (A) keep the martyrdom and mission of Imam Husayn (A) alive?

In what ways did Imam Sajjad (A) embark upon Jihade Tabyiin?

Approximately, how many commentaries have been written on Sahifa Sajjadiya?

Saudi authorities have warned against a campaign to give women the right to drive in the conservative kingdom.
The warning comes as Saudi female activists are gearing up against a long-standing driving ban, with more defiant women already getting behind the wheel. More than 50 videos showing Saudi women driving have been posted online over the past two weeks. A video, which went viral on the Internet this month, shows a fully veiled woman driving in the capital Riyadh as passing drivers give her a thumbs-up. Under the slogan, Women\'s Driving is a Choice, female activists have called for a demonstration on Saturday against the ban in the country. One Saudi woman by the name of Manal al-Sharif, who was put behind bars a couple of year ago for posting a video of herself while driving, says Saudi women are determined to drive.

The Spark of Supreme Sacrifice (A Documentary on Martyr Aitizaz Hassan) - English And Urdu

Shaheed Aitizaz Hassan: A Pakistani school boy from Hangu District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province who sacrificed his life while preventing a suicide bomber from entering his school on January 6, 2014. The school is located at the Ibrahimzai village of Hangu and it is the primary source of education for 2000 students.
Aitzaz\\\\\\\'s action to save his classmates captured the hearts of many in Pakistan; he was hailed as a national hero and awarded with the high civil award of Pakistan Sitara-e-Shujaat (Star of Bravery). Amidst the existing paralysis of action and amidst the purposeful ambiguity being created in Pakistan to not only exonerate Taliban but to make them out into Islamic heroes , the likes of Shaheed Aitizaz Hassan must proudly be raised as a flag under which the forces of correction gather together to assert its will against the gathering Khariji and Takfiri storm.
It is not only a way to remember the great sacrifice of our martyrs but it is also a practical step to gain center stage in the battle of wills that is unfolding; the narrative must be won before the war is won.
To achieve this purpose we produced a documentary with re-enactment of his martyrdom. This documentary with re-enactment contains the footage of real people, his family, his neighbors, his teacher speaking about him and also about the incident.

Description:

FUNDRAISING APPEAL: BE A DONOR FOR THIS GROUND-BREAKING DOCUMENTARY - WHY CAN\'T I BE SUSHI!
AIM is requesting your financial support for this great documentary being produced called \'Why Can\'t I be Sushi\'.
Produced and directed by Hoda Elsoudani, it is a documentary following the journey of 2 extremely articulate young girls - Niamh (age10) and Sofia (age 8) who are curious about the on going sectarian conflicts amongst muslims - It reveals their journey as they seek answers to why a growing number of people are becoming extremists and showing support for radical groups like ISIS.
By addressing the issue through the eyes of a child this will clarify the subject and bring back historical routes in a positive light where violence and aggression has no place in a difference of opinion.
With the aim of uniting Muslims through love, compassion & understanding, especially after the recent events In Iraq and Syria; this documentary aims to bring awareness, promote peace, break down barriers, challenges stereotypes and encourages unity

A Eulogy for Women
Iâll read a few eulogies for women. Men, you shout too. Women, when you reach Karbala, donât go forward if itâs crowded. Imam Husayn (âa) is not satisfied with women being bothered. Men, take care of your women so that they donât get lost and have to look around for you. Women, when you reach Karbala, say, âFirstly, Imam Iâm ashamed that I wasnât in Karbala to help you.â
Say this sincerely, not the way I said it. Weep and say it. I swear to God if you say this sincerely, theyâll write your name among Husaynâs (âa) helpers on Ashura! Say, âSecondly, Iâve come to help the Imam of my Time. Imam accept this from me!â
Women, when you reach Karbala, say Salam (send greetings) to the Imam and Hazrat Zaynab. Then say, âWe feel ashamed. We were respected when coming. No one took off our veil. No one whipped us for mourning for Husayn (âa). We only saw respect.â
Some of you have probably come with your families, and the women are listening too. Itâs fine if some stand with their families and take a photo. Fine. Have fun. But, remember there was a man who fell to the ground here, and his family was taken captive. Remember this!
I donât know how some people can put their arm on their brotherâs shoulders Bayn al-Haramayn (between the shrines) facing the shrine of Abu al-Fazl and say, âI want to take a photo here.â Fine. Have fun! But, in this place a brother lost his brother and said, âNow, my back has broken!â Remember this too.
Women, when you reach Karbala, say Salam to Hazrat Zaynab. Then say, âWe feel ashamed. We were respected when coming. No one took off our veil.â
Cry on the way. When you reach Karbala, these tears will have given dignity to you. When you are there, be drowned in thinking of helping Godâs religion and ask Imam Mahdi (âa.j.) to accept your help.
