The raging conflict in Syria is affecting efforts to neutralize its chemical arsenal.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons says security challenges have slowed the transport of the Arab country\'s chemical weapons abroad for destruction. The OPCW says it\'s taking additional measures to complete its mission, and that Syria\'s chemical arms will be destroyed as planned by the end of June. Damascus agreed to hand over its chemical weapons to the body as part of a plan proposed by Russia to prevent a US attack on the country. Washington threatened airstrikes on Syria, following the August 21 chemical attack near the Syrian capital. The gas attack killed hundreds of people there. Both Damascus and Moscow say it was carried out by insurgents to provoke a Western invasion of Syria.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons continues its joint mission with the UN to destroy Syria\'s chemical arsenal. The Special Coordinator of the mission says her team\'s made progress in destroying the chemicals.
Kaag also says the mission requires support by the international community in terms of packaging material and other logistic needs. She added that the security situation in the country has forced the mission to plan for possible contingencies. Kaag also praised the cooperation of the Syrian government, calling it constructive. The UN has set June 2014 as the deadline for the dismantlement of Syria\'s entire chemical weapons stockpile.

[13 June 2012] Russia will confront any US - led attack on Syria Webster Tarpley - English
Israel is apparently laying the groundwork for a possible military attack on Syria by alleging that Damascus could be using chemical weapons against the Syrian people. Tel Aviv has recently expressed concern about what it calls the use of chemical weapons in Syria. Israel says the weapons could fall into the wrong hands and that they may even be used by Syria to carry out an attack against Israeli forces. The pretext is being used to justify a possible military assault on Syria even if it means triggering a broader conflict across the region. Ayoob Kara, a senior member of the Israeli Likud Party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claimed in an interview with Israel Radio on June 9 that the Syrian government has used "chemical weapons against men, women, and children" during the past months of unrest in the country.
Press TV talks with Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley, author and historian in Washington, to further shed light on the issue.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has opened its Conference of the States Parties in The Hague.
Top on the agenda is the organization\'s mission to get Syrian chemical stockpiles out of the country by the year-end for final destruction. Meanwhile, Iran\'s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham has said that Iran will actively participate in the conference. She added that as a victim of chemical weapons used by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, Iran will be influential in the decisions made by the O-P-C-W. Iran\'s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will also make a speech at the conference on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement. Press TV\'s Nargess Moballeghi who is currently at the venue of the conference, has sent us this update.

Only two days before Iran's fourth Nanotechnology exhibition 5 new nano products unveiled on Monday promise an impressive collection on display this year.
Nano-Capillary Electrophoresis that makes the study and identification of single molecules possible; a nanospectrometer which can help identify the properties different chemical compounds; a Deep reactive ion etching or DRIE... a tool that can deposit thin films of material making the production of nanostructures possible. And ... a high resolution nano-imaging system
The nano-imaging system has great applications for drugs that undergo preclinical or animal testing. It can provide a high resolution image of the body of the animal and show the researchers exactly how their bodies have reacted to the drug.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed the efforts made by societies and researchers who have managed to break the western monopoly on hi-tech nano products.
Despite political pressures and economic sanctions Iranian scientists have managed to make great advancement and take impressive steps in nano technology.
While the most eye-catching product unveiled is nano-drug that can be used to effectively cure cancer.
This drug is produced only in one country and the price is around $2000. Now patients in Iran can get it for half to one third of that price and as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday the costs will be covered by insurance
Doxorubicin is a compound that destroys cancer tumors but it also has terrible side effects. The nanoliposom form only targets the tumors not healthy cells of the body.
The new drug has received the approval of the food and drug division of Iran's Health ministry and will hit the market soon.

[24 July 2012] US Israel seek to launch more wars in Mideast - English
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Tel Aviv will "have to act" to prevent a possible transfer of chemical weapons from Syria to Lebanon.
In an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Netanyahu said the need for an intervention may arise in case of the collapse of the Syrian government.
"So I think that this is something we'll have to act to stop if the need arises. And the need might arise if there's a regime collapse," the Israeli premier said.
He made the comments a few days after Israeli Minister of Military Affairs Ehud Barak made similar remarks.
Barak said that "the moment (Syrian President Bashar al-Assad) starts to fall we will conduct intelligence monitoring and will liaise with other agencies."
"Israel cannot accept a situation where advanced weapons systems are transferred from Syria to Lebanon," he said.
This is while Israel has intensified its military buildup in the occupied Golan Heights near the Syrian border.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Dr. Randy Short, with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, from Washington, to further discuss the issue.
