The Syria peace talks or the Geneva TWO conference remains in doubt amid wrangling between foreign-backed opposition groups.
Arab League Chief Nabil al-Arabi has announced that the Geneva conference will be held on November 23. But the UN-Arab league envoy has refused to announce a date. Lakhdar Brahimi-- who\'s on a tour of the Middle East to drum up support for the initiative-- says the talks can only be held if a credible opposition takes part in it. The remarks were in reference to a growing rift among foreign-backed opposition factions. The so-called Syrian National Coalition says a decision whether to attend the talks would be taken in the coming days. But, it remains unclear whether it can enforce any agreement as dozens of militant groups have recently rejected the umbrella group as their representative.

Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei narrates and explains a tradition narrated from the Messenger of Allah (S), the holy Prophet Muhammad (S), where his eminence (S) tells us all, \\\"Don\\\'t Go Searching For the Secrets of Others\\\".
Is it possible to have submitted to Islam by tongue, but still have faith and Eman not penetrate into one\\\'s heart and soul?
What is a prerequisite of true pure faith in Allah?
And what all includes one not searching for others\\\' faults and secrets?
What happens when one starts to look for and search out the hidden faults of others?
And is it possible that Allah will try to search out and look for the hidden faults of a person?
What would happen to a person if Allah found it necessary to look for and search out the hidden faults of a person?
Finally, as true believers and Mo\\\'mineen, why are we told, \\\"Don\\\'t Go Searching For the Secrets of Others\\\"?

Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei narrates and explains a tradition narrated from the 1st divinely appointed Imam (A), Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (A), where his eminence (A) tells us all to, \\\"Think Positive About Your Religious Brother\\\".
Yet, what does it mean to think positive about our religious brother?
And on a societal level, why would it be important to think positive about our religious brother?
What is an exception to this fundamental rule of good faith between religious brothers?
And do these aforementioned principles apply only to the other person\\\'s actions, or does it also apply to the things that they say?

Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei narrates and explains a tradition narrated from the Messenger of Allah (S), the holy Prophet Muhammad (S), where his eminence (S) tells us all, \\\\\\\"Use The Provisions Allah Has Given You\\\\\\\".
What did the Messenger of Allah (S) say when he saw a person who was untidy and messy looking?
Ultimately, Who gives us the provisions and blessings that we have in our lives?
Is the concept of Zuhd in contradiction to a person\\\\\\\'s using and benefiting from the blessings given to them by Allah?
What must one keep in mind when benefiting from the blessings given to them by Allah?
What does the late Mullah Faiz Kashani write about this matter being discussed?
And in era where most people didn\\\\\\\'t have mirrors, what did the people use in order to make sure that they looked orderly and tidy?
What would the Messenger of Allah (S) do before he left his house in order to meet his companions?

Afghanistan rejects the U-S demand that Kabul sign a security deal between the two countries as soon as possible.
A spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai says the agreement must wait until after next year\'s presidential election, even if it\'s approved by the Loya Jirga and the parliament. This, after the White House said Karzai\'s failure to sign the Bilateral Security Agreement, or B-S-A, by the end of this year would prevent Washington and its allies from planning for post-20-14 presence in Afghanistan. On Thursday, Karzai said he was willing to delay the signing of the B-S-A until after next year\'s presidential election. However, ordinary Afghans are angry over raids by American and other foreign troops. And they\'ve held protests against the security deal with the U-S.

Saudi Arabia says it plans to make a major shift in its dealings with the United States.
The Saudi intelligence chief says Riyadh\'s ties with Washington have been deteriorating for a while over several issues. A source close to Bandar bin Sultan says Riyadh\'s new stance is in protest at Washington\'s inaction over the war in Syria and the issue of Palestine. He\'s also voiced concern about the U-S growing closer to Iran. Bandar bin Sultan also criticized Washington for failing to back his country when it deployed forces to crush the popular uprising in Bahrain. The source close to the Saudi prince has hinted that the planned change in policy would have wide-ranging consequences, including for arms purchases and oil sales.

According to the statement by President Rousseff addressing the nation she is going to bring thousands of foreign doctors to improve the national health system, but still many of the protester are not satisfied. According to a poll released this weekend, the vast majority of the protesters are now calling for more vigorous laws to eradicate corruption. They are also calling for the cancellation of a proposed bill that would take away from the Courts the power to investigate and punish corrupt members of the Congress. Protests\' organizers said on Friday that they no longer call for new protests. Changing their minds in just two days, they\'ve now announced plans for new demonstrations starting from next week. They\'ve also said that this time round no one will leave the streets until the promises, which president Rousseff made on T-V, are fulfilled.

[23 June 2012] Pakistani traders protest against power outages - English
This, otherwise bustling city center in Rawalpindi, is giving a deserted look as traders have shut down their businesses to protest against the long power outages. Normal life has virtually come to a halt in Pakistan's largest province, Punjab, due to crippling strike against the ongoing energy crises. Pakistan is currently in the midst of severe energy shortages with many parts of the country receive only a few hours of electricity a day during the sweltering summer season. Riots have broken out in many parts of the country's Punjab province, which is controlled by the opposition.
Angry protesters have attacked and torched public offices and a lawmaker's house in some cities. In his first address to the Parliament after getting elected as the country's Prime Minister, Raja Parvez Ashraf said addressing the energy crises would be his first priority. Prime Minister Ashraf was once in charge of water and power sector and was accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects, a charge he strongly denies. Experts attribute the problem to years of underinvestment and bad management in the energy sector.

Germany chancellor has called the U-S president to demand immediate clarification on reports that the U-S spied on her.
The German government spokesman says Angela Merkel had made clear to Barack Obama that if the information proves to be true, it would be completely unacceptable and represents a grave breach of trust. This, after Germany said it had received info that the U-S is spying on Merkel\'s cell phone communications. But the White House says Obama has assured Merkel that her phone is not being monitored. The U-S spying scandal is taking center stage after fugitive American whistle-blower Edward Snowden revealed the details of the program. Washington\'s espionage scandal has already caused outrage among Italian, French, Mexican and Brazilian officials.

Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei narrates and explains a tradition narrated from the 6th divinely appointed Imam, Imam Ja\\\'far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq (A), where Imam Sadiq (A) relates some pieces of advice from the holy Prophet Muhammad (S) to Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (A), where the Messenger of Allah (S) speaks about how one should \\\"Sacrifice Everything For Islam\\\".
What is the fifth piece of advice that the Messenger of Allah (S) gives to Imam Ali (A)?
With all the different options that we have, what should we spend our wealth on?
And if it came down to it, what should we sacrifice our life for?
What are two possible meanings for the word \\\'religion\\\' when keeping the context of the aforementioned tradition of the Messenger of Allah (S)?
And are the two meaning of the word \\\'religion\\\' in the aforementioned tradition, contradictory to one another?
What must a sincere Muslim do when they see that Islam is being attacked?
What is the opposite side of the coin when it comes to sacrificing for religion?
And finally, if we are to sacrifice our wealth and life for something; what would it be?
Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei expounds upon the wise words of the 6th divinely appointed Imam, Imam Ja\\\'far al-Sadiq (A), where his eminence (A) relates some pieces of advice from the holy Prophet Muhammad (S) to Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (A), where the Messenger of Allah (S) speaks about how we should \\\"Sacrifice Everything For Islam\\\".

[24 Dec 2013] Fears of Presidential Vacuum High in Lebanon - English

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman is urging rival political factions to ensure the needed quorum in parliament for the election of Lebanon\\\'s next president.Suleiman\\\'s six-year-term expires in May 2014 and is preceded by a two-month constitutional period.
Lebanon\\\'s first man has also kicked off talks with Lebanese rival factions in a bid to help Prime-Minister Designate \\\"Tammam Salam\\\" form a cabinet line-up prior to the two-month constitutional period. The cabinet line-up formation however has been in limbo for the past 9 months namely due to the Saudi-backed March 14 Bloc\\\'s boycott of parliamentary sessions citing Hezbollah\\\'s intervention in Syria as a pretext. The Saudi-backed March 14th Bloc is now calling for a neutral line-up while the Hezbollah-led March 8th is calling for an all-embracing cabinet while rejecting a De-Facto one. The proposal of a neutral cabinet has also been slammed by Lebanese Druze Leader Walid Jumblat who warned it would be a \\\"leap into the unknown\\\". Meanwhile, the Free Patriotic Movement has accused the March 14th Bloc of paving the way for a presidential vacuum through the continued boycott of parliamentary sessions dubbing the movement\\\'s obstruction of government institutions as part of instructions taken from their regional allies pre-Geneva II talks. The Free Patriotic Movement MP also highlighted what he described as an alarming pledge by Riyadh\\\'s ambassador to London who vowed continued military and financial support for the foreign-backed groups fighting in Syria even if Saudi Arabia goes it alone. The MP warned the March 14th Bloc of following their Saudi ally\\\'s footsteps as well. Though Lebanon\\\'s President has vowed a smooth transition of power rebuffing any attempt to extend his mandate, fears of a vacuum at the presidential post are simmering in Beirut for their grave consequences on Lebanon. Lebanese leaders are warning that the presidential vacuum added to the cabinet limbo would tow the country into security, political and constitutional chaos.

Britain\'s foreign secretary says bilateral relations with Iran are improving and that the UK plans to continue the expansion of ties provided that it remains reciprocal.
William Hague added that Tehran and London are working together to make it easier for Iranian and British citizens to obtain consular and visa services. However, the foreign secretary said sanctions against Tehran would remain intact and will be enforced robustly. On nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1, Hague said last week\'s talks were constructive. He said the two sides plan to meet monthly with the next round of talks due in Vienna mid-March.

An Al-Qaeda-linked group has issued a threat to Hezbollah, saying it would continue its attacks against the Lebanese resistance movement.
In a statement posted on the Internet, the group, known as the Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon, says -- Hezbollah and its bases are legitimate targets. The statement comes just three days after the group claimed responsibility for a car bombing in Beirut\'s southern suburbs that killed four people. That was the sixth in a string of terrorist attacks in Lebanon in recent months. Another al-Qaeda-linked outfit, the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, carried out a twin bombing in front of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut in November. The attacks claimed the lives of 23 people -- including an Iranian diplomat.

On the day that was supposed to be the first time that the so called divided Syrian opposition, known as the SNC, was to sit across the table from the Syrian delegation of President Bashar al Assad, not only was the UNAL League envoy not able to bring them together in the same room, the SNC would not put their precondition of Assad\'s departure aside, which brought the reaction of Syrian delegation, saying if this was not solved, they would go back to Syria.
In this edition of the debate : we\'ll ask whether a golden opportunity has been smashed by the SNC, and ultimately, what the future lies in negotiations, if any, to resolve the war on Syria.

US President Barack Obama has defended his administration\'s use of drones as legal, effective, and just.
\"We are at war with an organization that right now would kill as many Americans as they could if we did not stop them first. So this is a just war,\" Obama said in a major policy speech at Washington\'s National Defense University on Thursday. \"Our nation is still threatened by terrorists,\" he pointed out, noting that \"We must recognize however, that the threat has shifted and evolved from the one that came to our shores on 9/11,\" he said.
The US president claimed the strikes have been effective in targeting militants and have made the United States a safer country. Obama outlined the legal guidelines surrounding the use of unmanned aerial vehicles to wage war in distant lands.
\"I don\'t not believe it would be constitutional for the government to target and kill any U.S. citizen...Nor should any president deploy armed drones over US soil. But when a US citizen goes abroad to wage war against American and is actively plotting to kill US citizens...his citizenship should no more serve as a shield than a sniper shooting down an innocent crowd should be protected from a swat team,\" he said.
On Wednesday, US Attorney General Eric Holder admitted for the first time that four US citizens were murdered in assassination drone attacks conducted by the CIA in Pakistan and Yemen since 2011.

The Taliban are angry at Afghanistan\'s assembly of elders, or Loya Jirga after it endorsed a security deal with the US. In a statement, the militants condemned the deal as a QUOTE- pact of slavery. The statement also said the deal would benefit neither side. The deal now has to go to the Afghan parliament for approval. The Bilateral Security Agreement, or B-S-A allows the US troops to stay in Afghanistan after NATO pulls out in 2014. Afghan president Hamid Karzai has said the deal won\'t be signed until after the 2014 election. The US has urged Karzai to sign the pact as soon as possible- a demand rejected by the Afghan president.

The biggest donor to the U-S Republican Party, Sheldon Adelson says America should begin negotiations with Iran only after nuking it.
Adelson made the comments at Yeshiva University in New York, criticizing Washington\'s recent diplomatic outreach to Tehran. The gambling mogul donated nearly a hundred million dollars to Republicans last year. He\'s seen as an influential figure in devising U-S policies in favor of Israel.
