Now, your letter has reached me wherein you recall that Allah chose Muhammad (S) for His religion and helped him through those companions who helped him. Strange things about you have remained concealed (by the irony of fate) from us, since you have started telling us of Allah\'s trials for us and His bounties to us through our Prophet. In this matter, you are like the person who carries dates to Hajar, or who challenges his own master to a duel in archery.
You think that so - and- so are the most distinguished persons in Islam. You have said such a thing which if it be true, you have nothing to do with it, but if it be not so, then its defect will not affect you. And what are you to do with the question of who is better and who is worse, or who is the ruler and who is the ruled. What have the freed ones and their sons to do with distinguishing between the first muhajirun and determining their position or defining their ranks. What a pity! the sound of an arrow is being produced by what is not a real arrow, and he against whom the judgement is to be passed is sitting in judgement. O man, why do you not see your own lameness and remain within bounds, and why do not you realize the shortness of your measure and stay back where destiny has placed you. You have no concern with the defeat of the defeated or the victory of the victor.
You are wandering in bewilderment and straying from the right path. Do you not realize it? I am not giving you any news: I am just recounting Allah\'s bounty, namely that a number of people from among the muhajirun (immigrants from Mecca) and ansar (helpers) fell as martyrs in the way of Allah the Sublime, and that each of them is distinguished (on that account), but when one of us secured martyrdom he was named the Chief of all martyrs, and the Messenger of Allah (S) gave him the peculiar honour of saying seventy takbir (Allahu Akbar) during his funeral prayer.
Do you not know that a number of people lost their hands in the way of Allah, and that everyone is distinguished (on that account), but when the same thing occurred to one of us he was given the name \"the flier in Paradise\"; and \"the two winged\". If Allah had not forbidden self-praise, the writer would have mentioned numerous distinctions which the believer knows full well and which the ears of hearers do not wish to forget.

The luminous statement of Imam Sajjad (a) in the Sahifa Sajjadiya is this: \"[I saw that] the needy who seeks from the needy is foolish and misguided.\" How sweet is this statement!
He (a) said that it is foolishness for a person to want something from another person; for \'other than God\' to want something from \'other than God.\' \"[I saw that] the needy who seeks from the needy is foolish and misguided.\" Isn\'t this statement worthy of being kissed?
He (a) said that the One who gave everything, the One who gives everything, Who is closer to you than anyone else, and Who hears your words better than anyone else- why don\'t you talk with Him?
\"[I saw that] the needy who seeks from the needy is foolish and misguided\"- This is in the Sahifa Sajjadiya. He (a) has defined foolishness, he has defined wisdom, he has defined knowledge, he has defined ignorance. \"The needy who seeks from the needy is foolish and misguided.\"
Another part of the luminous sayings of Imam Sajjad (a) is that what happens if a person swims in the opposite direction of this general path and direction that everything is going towards?
The first supplication of these luminous supplications of the Sahifa Sajjadiya is the introduction of the human being in that, \"What is the human being?\" If you ask for the introduction of the human being from others, they will say, \"The human being is a talking animal.\" But when you ask Imam Sajjad (a), \"What is the human being?\" he (a) says that the human being is a living, divine being who praises God.
The final distinguishing characteristic of the \'human being\' is praising and worshipping Truth. This is in the first supplication of the Sahifa Sajjadiya. The final distinguishing characteristic [to be human] is recognizing Truth, so that they know these are blessings. And that they know that the Giver is God and to be grateful to Him. \"And be grateful to Me and do not be ungrateful to Me\" [Qur\'an 2:152].
Then this luminous saying is in the very first supplication [of the Sahifa Sajjadiya]...He (a) said that if God did not give us the order to be grateful to Him and to praise Him, and if humanity enjoyed divine blessings and success and was not grateful, this leads to this matter: \"[Had such been the case], they would have left the bounds of humanity for that of beastliness, and became as He has described, \'They are only like cattle- no, but they are even further astray\' [25:44].\"
This is not demeaning, this is not insulting or damnation- this is research. It said that if someone is not one who praises God, if they do not know God, if they do not know the blessings from God, if they are not grateful for His blessings, they are not a \'human being.\'

Recite \"Chapter Hamd” in Prayer!
A tradition says, “When a servant stands up to pray, if his desires and heart are with God (while praying) - meaning that he keeps his mind on this and finishes his prayer in that way - he will become pure like the day he was born from his mother.”
Recite “Chapter Hamd” in prayer. Is it possible to pray and not recite Chapter Hamd? It means recite Chapter Hamd in prayer with attentiveness. You’ll be reborn. “All praise belongs to God, Lord of the Universe, the Beneficent, the Merciful.” (Qur’an 1:1-2) Whenever I say “the Beneficent, the Merciful,” I think, “See. It said ‘the Beneficent, the Merciful’ a moment ago. Now, again it’s saying, ‘the Beneficent, the Merciful.’”
“In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All praise belongs to God, Lord of the Universe, the Beneficent, the Merciful.” God, You insist very much that I see Your Mercy. Why do You say, “Look at My Mercy” this much?”
“and Master of the Day of Judgment.” “The Beneficent, the Merciful (is the) Master of the Day of Judgment.” So, don’t be afraid. God, I’ve said, “The Beneficent, the Merciful (is the) Master of the Day of Judgment.” Now, will You punish me there? You Yourself said to say, ““The Beneficent, the Merciful (is the) Master of the Day of Judgment.”
“(Lord), You alone we do worship.” God says, “I only help the one who seeks assistance from Me.” “And from You alone we do seek assistance.” God says, “Ok, I have to help you since you said, ‘Only You.’”
“(Lord), guide us to … the path of those to whom You have granted blessings,” the path of Ali (‘a) to whom You have given so many blessings. “… those who are neither subject to Your anger...”
It is as if “Chapter Hamd” is reciting a eulogy. Similarly, when people who usually go to religious eulogies go to Hajj, they have a lot to say and they do the circumambulation beautifully. Especially when these people do the walking between “Safa” and “Marwah”, they really enjoy it. They walk where Hajar walked and read eulogies (in poems), “When did my Ali Asghar start talking?!” They say this as they walk and cry. Such people know what to say. Others don’t know what to say. Others say, “Which supplication should we recite now?”
But, these people read eulogies even when reciting Chapter Hamd. God has said this Himself in this chapter. “…those who are neither subject to Your anger…” Don’t take me on the path of the murderers of Imam Husayn with whom You are angry. Don’t take me on the path of those who slapped the face of Hazrat Fatimah Zahra (‘a). You hate them. Separate me from them.
This is the high point of the “Kumayl Supplication” too. The high point of the Kumayl Supplication is where it says, “Do You want to put me in the same place with Your enemies.” Even if I tolerate Your torment, how can I tolerate them?!
“…those who are neither subject to Your anger…” is the peak of the Kumayl Supplication. The supplication first moans because of the torment, then it says, “Fine. If I tolerate this, how can I tolerate that?”
I ask God that you can pray with attentiveness.

An Attitude, which God Dislikes in People
God has introduced people as being ungrateful and thankless, meaning they are very ungrateful. People are ungrateful beings. If two people are sitting next to each other in a taxi, or in a gathering for breaking the fast, and one asks, “What’s new?” they start to talk ungratefully. They list all the problems, one by one.
Yes, these problems exist. But, praise the Lord, you are healthy, and God has given you a long life with dignity. There is safety and other blessings in society, yet a person states the problems first. The culture of ungratefulness is a culture in which people see the empty half of the glass, even if just the top of the glass is empty.
Such an attitude exists in people. Some people have sunk deeply into this attitude. They get upset, depressed, and angry too. This attitude of being ungrateful has become very ingrained. They consider being ungrateful to be something very serious. You tell them, “Sir! Remember all of your blessings. Be a little happy because of them! Was it good if you had cancer or something now?”
I am coming here after going to visit two people. One was in the hospital and one at home due to accidents. In a moment, a healthy youth was stricken with such a situation. We should thank God. We have gone on trips many times without being hurt. God dislikes this attitude in us very much. In conclusion, if God wants to highlight a fault in people, it’s ungratefulness.
This verse may be strange to you. Many people have never heard it. That’s because they don’t usually make a poster out of this verse. But, you should. It’s an admonishment. It says, “Perish the human! How unthankful he is!” (Qur’an 80:17) People would ask the Messenger of God (s), who was crying all the time, \"Why do you bother yourself so much?\" You are the dearest to God. He’d say, “I’m afraid I won’t thank Him enough.” This means, he worried he may be unthankful.
Our situation is clear! We should evaluate each of our attitudes to see if there is ungratefulness in it. Ungratefulness is like bad weather. It’s like Autumn, which causes the leaves to fall. It’s like a chill, which is very annoying. Ungratefulness definitely accompanies all sins. We have to be very careful of this attitude.
