Distinguished Shair e Ahlebait and Renowned Marsiya khwan, Janaab Sibt e Jafar. Shaheed
Professor Sibte Jafar was also prominent educationist and the principal of Government Degree College, Qasimabad. He was shot dead in a targeted attack in Liaquatabad on Monday, March 18, 2013.
Professor Jafar, 50, had left the college on his motorcycle in the afternoon when two assailants on a motorcycle fired a volley of bullets at him near Arshee Chowk. The injured was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH)
\"All his life, Jafar kept an old motorcycle but you needed to call him only once for help in any personal or academic matter and he would arrive at the appointed place,\" recalled Prof Mirza Athar Hussain, a former president of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA).
\"He was a devoted marsiya khwan and trained hundreds of students in the art,\" he said, adding that the slain professor even established an institute to teach the art of writing and reciting marsiya [elegy]. About 5,000 students are enrolled at the institute.
Jafar\'s students too remember him for his simplicity and love for Urdu poetry, especially in the elegy genre. He was well-versed in Urdu, Arabic and Persian. Jafar also authored several books and wrote thousands of marsiyas and nohas.
To protest the murder, professors and lecturers have announced boycotting academic activities on Tuesday across the province, said SPLA President Prof Iftikhar Azmi. All colleges will be closed on Tuesday (today).
Three-day mourning
Criticising the government, judiciary and law enforcers on their failure to protect Shia citizens, the MWM announced three days of mourning over the untimely deaths of Jafar and senior lawyer Zaheer Abbas Naqvi.
MWM Secretary General Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri said the people of Pakistan had lost a great teacher, poet and humanitarian in Jafar. \"His brutal murder is tantamount to the murder of Urdu literature and marsiya.\"
The Shia Ulema Council also condemned the murder of the professor.

Medics tell Press TV they have found traces of depleted uranium in some Gazan residents wounded in Israel's ground offensive into the strip.
Norwegian medics told Press TV correspondent Akram al-Sattari that some of the victims who have been wounded since Israel began its attacks on the Gaza Strip on December 27 have traces of depleted uranium in their bodies.
The report comes after Israeli tanks and troops swept across the border into Gaza on Saturday night, opening a ground operation after eight days of intensive attacks by Israeli air and naval forces on the impoverished region.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak warned on Sunday that the wide-ranging ground offensive in the Gaza Strip would be "full of surprises."
A ground offensive in the densely-populated Gaza is expected to drastically increase the death toll of the civilian population.
The latest assaults bring the number of Palestinians killed to over 488 with 2790 others wounded. The UN says that about 25 percent of the casualties were civilian deaths - including at least 34 children.
According to Israeli army officials, at least 30 of its soldiers have been wounded since the start of the ground campaign.
Amid global condemnation of the ongoing violence in the region, the UN Security Council failed to agree on a united approach to resolve the crisis.
"Once again, the world is watching in dismay the dysfunctionality of the Security Council," UN General Assembly chief Miguel d'Escoto said Sunday.
According to diplomatic sources, the US blocked a Security Council resolution, with US Deputy Ambassador Alejandro Wolff arguing that an official statement that criticizes both Israel and Hamas would not be helpful.
The White House has so far declined to comment on whether an Israeli ground incursion into Gaza is a justified measure.

Anti war protestors demonstrated in front of the White House and brought more than just signs they brought shoes
WASHINGTON, Dec 17: About 100 people gathered outside the White House on Wednesday to protest for the release of the Iraqi journalist who hurled his shoes at President George W. Bush over the weekend.
Muntazer al-Zaidi, who works for the Al Baghdadia Television, has been in custody since disrupting President Bush’s weekend press conference with the size-10 projectiles. If convicted, Mr Zaidi may be jailed for up to seven years.
The protesters brought a giant head of President Bush, threw shoes at it and covered it with shoes before ending their protest.
They also brought bags of shoes representing Iraqis and US soldiers who have died since the Bush Administration’s “illegal invasion” of Iraq.
The peace activists urged the Iraqi government to release Mr Zaidi without charges and have set up a fund to support him and his family.
At the White House, Press Secretary Dana Perino said the president had “no hard feelings” about the Iraqi journalist who flung shoes at him.
Asked if Mr Zaidi should be forgiven, Ms Perino said Mr Bush trusted Iraq’s legal system to decide an appropriate punishment for the assault.
The protesters outside the White House also displayed names of thousands of Iraqis killed in the war. The display contained their names, ages, places where they were killed and how they were killed.
“These are real people,” said Gael Murphy, one of the cofounders of the Code Pink which along with three of the groups had participated in the protest. “They were killed because of the US invasion.”Later, representatives for Code Pink, Women for Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War, and Veterans for Peace told a news conference that they had come to White House to remind the Bush administration and the American people that “Mr Bush is directly responsible for the deaths of 1.5 million Iraqis and 4,200 US troops”.
They noted that the war also displaced more than five million Iraqis.
“Bush is the real criminal, not al-Zaidi,” said one of them. “Al-Zaidi speaks for millions of people across the world.”
“Arrest Bush, not Zaidi,” chanted the protesters as they marched outside the White House. “Bush is a war criminal,” shouted the protesters as they spanked a giant picture of the US president with shoes.
The speakers who addressed the news conference noted that Mr Zaidi had become something of a folk-hero in the Arab world, and his shoe-throwing had become a symbol of dissatisfaction with ‘Bush’s bungled war in Iraq’

Friends, let this not come as a surprise to you. This is the reality we are living in where it is ‘estimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. That’s roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these causes each year. About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger related causes… Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.’
--HOW YOU CAN HELP --
Don’t waste natural resources. Be thankful to God for His gifts and blessings. Be mindful of your responsibility toward other human beings. Think about what the Prophet (saws) would do. Have mercy and compassion toward all humankind. Next time you spend money on those unnecessary luxuries of your life, think for a moment about the plight of the poor and oppressed around the world. Be aware of the materialistic forces and the contradictions of the dominant economic systems that are at the roots of global inequality. Don’t become a part of this system. Don’t become a slave of consumerism and endless materialistic competition.
Understand that it is not enough to just keep yourself from engaging in consumerism. It's not always easy to protect yourself and your family against the multi-billion dollar industry of marketing. Join forces with other like-minded people. Strengthen your communities that can serve as a buffer against corporations. Engage in collective action. Transform people's consciousness and hyper-consumeristic lifestyles. Among other things, join a local organization that is working against subtle forms of oppression, like hunger, poverty, illiteracy, domestic violence, anorexia and bulimia, perfect body images, and endless materialistic competition. If there isn’t any, start one today!
For ideas, you can look into doing online activism. Check out moveon.org’s work. Some online organizations also invite web surfers to click on their sites regularly. They say every click earns them revenue to support their causes. The Hunger Site is an example. Some may also invite you to buy their T-shirts and other souvenirs. I guess, you can buy these items if you think they can help spread the word and encourage people to join a good cause. But, in general, more shopping and more consumption cannot be a solution to human suffering. Selling consumers to products through clicks or ads is exactly what we need to shun. Because that feeds into the same loop of consumerism. My suggestion: Donate directly! And, encourage others to do the same!
Lastly, remember the advice Imam Ali gave in his Last Will:
“My advice to you is to be conscious of Allah and steadfast in your religion. Do not yearn for the world, and do not be seduced by it. Do not resent anything you have missed in it. Proclaim the truth; work for the next world. Oppose the oppressor and support the oppressed.”
Become a friend and supporter of oppressed people and an enemy of oppressors and all forms of oppression."

Lyrics:
Tomorrow with these swords raised... we write an oath in our blood
For endless years we\'ll be praised... with pride we welcome the dust
* * *
The world shall learn from our blood... and lives with us no disgrace
Pride sits on all our shoulders... every man hope in his face
Only destiny knows us... it\'s hand brought us to this place
Angels circle our arrows
Beauty engulfs our sorrow
As we welcome tomorrow
Tomorrow in death we\'ll sleep... with honour, death we shall meet
* * *
O\' grave that shall be our homes... for us reveal your carpets
After we are dressed in blood... dress us in your pure garments
We\'ve sold ourselves to Hussein... and left sorrow and torment
We\'ve left our wives and children
Our sons shall grow as orphans
Our hearts Hussein as stolen
Even if it\'s at this price... Hussein is our greatest guide
* * *
Upon us God has his eye... the Lord watches over us
Our lives were made for Hussein... and this service we entrust
The Lord shall see our service... as we throw away our lust
We throw away our evil
And welcome death and angels
To craft a beautiful world
Our blood shall build the future... and justice it shall ensure
* * *
The poets shall draw for us... a picture of such beauty
The future shall testify... Hussein is worth our bodies
Oppression will not prevail... for it\'s blood our swords thirsty
We are thirsty for our deaths
With martyrdom we are blessed
As we welcome our last breaths
Haider\'s name sits on our tongue... our battle-cry and our song
* * *
Tomorrow let the world watch... a golden road we shall pave
Its cement is our bodies... its gold the death that we crave
Upon it millions shall walk... when they visit Hussein\'s grave
Indeed we teach the nations
To Hussein lives are given
For Hussein fates are written
Judgement Day it shall be known... Hussein\'s servants are his crown

The death toll from the Israeli navy's takeover of a Gaza aid convoy has risen to 20 while Israel carefully censors reports on the casualties from the attack.
Gaza Freedom Flotilla came under fire early on Monday by Israeli navy forces in international waters more than 150km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza.
The six-ship aid fleet was soon stormed by commandos descending from helicopters.
At least 20 people were killed in the takeover of the Gaza aid convoy, al-Aqsa TV channel reported, saying that more than 50 people, including leader of the Palestinian Islamic Movement Sheikh Raed Salah, were wounded in the attack.
The news trickled through the Israeli military censorship which has sought to block the reporting of any information about the casualties.
A report on the Israeli radio said the censorship was aimed at covering up the number of casualties brought to Israeli hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, Israeli Trade and Industry Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer expressed regret for the deaths aboard the Gaza aid ships.
"The images are certainly not pleasant. I can only voice regret at all the fatalities," he told Israel's Army Radio.
The comments come as the first official acknowledgement by Tel Aviv that the attack had turned fatal.
Israel had initially declined to comment on the reports of casualties from the takeover of the aid ships.

Iran's president lashes out at Western powers for their opposition to the outcome of the June 12 presidential election.
In a Thursday address to thousands of people in the northeastern city of Mashad, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the West has gone as far as setting up satellite channels to influence Iranians against their better judgment.
Ahmadinejad, who was speaking during his first provincial trip after the June 12 presidential vote, said foreign countries have no right to insult the choice made during the election.
"During the whole election process, certain foreign countries attempted to push the country to the brink of civil war," argued Ahmadinejad.
Iran turned into a scene of opposition rallies after the re-election of president Ahmadinejad with nearly two-thirds of the vote.
President Ahmadinejad's rivals -- Mehdi Karroubi and Mir-Hossein Mousavi -- reject the election result as fraudulent and have yet to acknowledge the Iranian president's re-election.
On June 20, the unrest over the result of the vote took a turn for the worse after protesters, who demanded a re-run of the 10th presidential election, gathered to hold a rally without the official permission of the country's Interior Ministry.
The day turned bloody -- increasing the post-vote deaths to at least 20 -- when, according to Iranian officials, terrorist elements infiltrated the rallies.
Ahmadinejad went on to say that the West has trouble tolerating an independent nation that takes a stand against their policies.
He said Iran would respond to any aggressors in a way that they would forget how to return home.
"I have told the enemies that this nation will strike you in the face so hard you will lose your way home," he said.
The president said the high voter turnout in the recent elections has caught Westerners off guard and "has foiled all their evil plans".
On the Iranian nuclear issue, Ahmadinejad said that his government would remain open to "logic and dialogue" to end the international deadlock.
He, however, issued a warning. "If each and every one of the Western countries that oppose Iran's nuclear program joins forces, they would still fail to deprive the Iranian nation of its inalienable nuclear rights," he said.

A violent clash between Shia pilgrims and demonstrators and the Saudi Arabian security forces during the Hajj pilgrimage, which led to the deaths of over 400 people, occurred in Mecca on 31 July 1987.
Since 1981, Iranian pilgrims had held an annual demonstration against Israel and the United States.
For years, Iranian pilgrims had tried to stage demonstrations called \"Distancing Ourselves from Mushrikīn\" (برائت از مشرکين) in the Muslim holy city of Mecca during the hajj. These demonstrations had their origins in 1971, when Imam Khomeini instructed his Shiite followers to distribute political messages when performing their pilgrimage.
Saudi security personnel reportedly opened fire on the demonstrators killing 402 pilgrims and 649 wounded.
Iranian officials displayed the bullet wounds in the victims\' bodies, which proved that the Saudis had indeed used firearms.

[29 July 2012] Suu Kyi after Muslim free Myanmar - News Analysis - English
More deaths, more silence, more questions asking why. Why has much of the world turn a blind eye to the killings of Muslims in Myanmar? Is this Bosnia revisited, where the international community ignored the genocide against the Bosnia Muslims in the 1990's right in the middle of Europe? Why are we witnessing the silence from political circles, media entities and even Nobel Peace Laureates? And what took the United Nations so long to call for a probe into the killing of Muslims in Myanmar.

Israeli forces kill two Palestinians
In another blow to the stalemated Middle East talks, Israeli forces have shelled the Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinians and injuring four others.
Hamas officials said an Israeli navy boat shelled an area north of Gaza City early on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
Palestinian medical sources have confirmed the deaths, adding that four other Palestinians were also injured in the Israeli attack.
The incident comes as US-brokered talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel failed to resolve their past disputes.
Israel has repeatedly attacked Gaza since the end of its war on the tiny densely-populated coastal strip at the turn of last year. Gaza has also been under an Israeli siege since 2007.

\"As talks continue in Geneva, we\'ll continue to strengthen the moderate opposition\" that was what President Barak Obama said while hosting France in a lavish ceremony in Washington, a stance that was shared by France as well. Why does the US continue to think that arming the opposition will lead to a positive outcome, never mind what they call the moderate opposition? In this edition of the debate, we\'ll discuss the prospects of the Geneva conference, which the Syrian delegation says the focus should be terrorism, not the transitional governing body, and why the prospects of parallel talks between Russia, US and int. mediator Lakhdar Brahimi also look to lead no-where.
Guests:
- Journalist & Political Commentator, Richard Millet (LONDON).
- Author & Historian, Webster Griffin Tarpley (WASHINGTON).
Subjects:
1. The US is adamant in its arming of the opposition, the moderate one: Does the US even know who the moderate opposition is, why this persistence, again, making this announcement again during Geneva talks?
2. Another repeated announcement, by the US: the threat of foreign fighters 7,000 of them from some 50 countries, including Europe, with some American, tied to al-Qaeda, the al-Nusra Front, who aspire to attack the United States
3. This piece of news did not make it to major for a variety of reasons: that the intel. Western intelligence agencies have visited Damascus for talks on combating terrorist groups: Faisal Mekdad told state TV BBC that there was a schism between Western security officials and politicians who are pressing President Bashar al-Assad to step down; the growing numbers of foreign terrorists from Europe means there are common concerns
4. On the Geneva negotiations: the divided SNC: today we presented our main document which includes the steps and principles in transitional process: 22 points: formation of transitional governing body, made by the 2 parties...and some other points. The Syrian delegation response: comprehensive document detailing the horrendous deaths by the hands of these foreign backed insurgents: Why such resistance against first rooting out terrorism inside Syria/
5. Parallel talks seemed like a good idea: Originally a Russian proposal, floated again, to originally include Turkey Saudi Arabia and IRan, along with the US and Russia: now narrowed to the US and Russia, with int. mediator Lakhdar Brahimi, slated for Friday?
6. Get Iran involved in the peace talks: Increase chances for a solution: Geneva track record obviously proves these talks have failed, except for the evacuation of some civilians trapped in Homs: What\'s the hold-up?
7. Reaction: Syria Media advisor: Botheina Sha\'aban: The West and Israel wanted to change regional balance and power to their own benefit: the outcome of the conflict: a proxy war, with Turkey Qatar and Saudi Arabia as the main supporters of the war under western and US influence: Has this failed, or is that still the goal?

What started as a regular basketball game between two teams, ended in the arrest of 30 Turkish youth. Police in the Turkish city of Kayseri stepped in after the crowd, waving Palestinian flags, began protesting against the Israeli team.
According to the indictment, they have been accused of "insulting Israel".
This is not the first time Israeli players have been forced off the court. In 2009, some 3000 Turkish fans disrupted a game in the capitol Ankara.
Soma analysts say these events shine a light on the growing rift between the long-time regional allies, who share trade, military and strategic ties.
Tensions between Turkey and Israel were at one time, reserved only for the political leaders. However that is now being seen on the streets. This is especially true since the deadly raid on the Gaza aid ship back in May of last year that saw 9 Turkish activists' killed.
Israel refuses to apologize to Turkey for the deaths saying their troops acted in self defense.
According to Hayrettin Turan, the editor of the foreign desk at Turkiye Newspaper, relations between the two countries really soured with the Israeli invasion of the Gaza strip in December 2008.
While Turkey is a predominantly Muslim country, it is a secular one, leading some to believe it will make a good role model for new governments in the Middle East.
Turkey also maintains strong ties with Iran and with that growing influence across the region. The dilemma now rests with Israel and how long they feel their policies will keep them afloat.

Indian troops kill Five in Kashmir
Police in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir have once again opened fire on protesters, killing at least Five and injuring more than two dozen others.
According to police sources, after protests turned violent security forces were forced to open fire to disperse protesters in the southern town of Mendhar, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The death toll is expected to rise as some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
The deaths have triggered more protests in neighboring Poonch district and surrounding areas with protestors attacking several police stations in the disputed Himalayan region.
The regional administration has sought the help of Indian paramilitary forces to contain the situation in the predominantly Muslim region.
In a separate incident, pro-independence demonstrators set fire to two government buildings to protest a round-the-clock curfew across Kashmir, which has been in place for four days now.
Residents say they are running out of food and supplies.
Kashmir has been the scene of violent clashes on an almost daily basis.
Over 90 Kashmiri protesters have lost their lives at the hands of Indian troops since the unrest erupted back in June.

It has been 30 years since the US undertook Operation Eagle Claw - a failed military mission to rescue 52 diplomats and embassy staff taken hostage in Iran.
About 90 commandoes, eight helicopters and six aircraft landed in the Iranian desert on the first stage of the mission, but an accident resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers and it was called off.
The hostage crisis lasted for another year after "divine intervention", as some Iranians say, stopped Eagle Claw.
The anniversary comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran.
