Complete Video Coverage of Toronto Ashura Day Procession, Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain Ibne Ali (AS) 10th Moharram 1434H, Nov. 24, 2012.
Hussain was born in 620 AD to a family renowned for their values of love, equality and peace. He exemplified these morals -- taught to him by his grandfather Muhammad SAWW, the last prophet of Islam.
Being born into the household of Muhammad, the people flocked towards Hussain for his teachings, generosity and wisdom. He served the people as a leader -- promoting and upholding many universal principles. Hussain valued equality, justice, and honour, and was known for his truthfulness and selflessness.
Not long after the passing of Muhammad, the leadership of the vast Arab Empire had fallen into major disrepute and corruption. The morality that Muhammad had spent his life instilling into society was slowly being eradicated as the new tyrannical ruler, Yazid, seized power.
Hussain witnessed how the fundamental human rights of his fellow citizens was being usurped, and knew something had to be done. Yazid, from the Ummayad dynasty, knew nothing of morality or humanity, and ruled with an iron fist. He demanded Hussain pay him an oath of allegiance, to lend credibility to his tyrannical rule.
It was now that Hussain faced his dilemma... Should he give his oath of allegiance to an oppressive tyrant -- stand aside and allow injustice to overcome morality? Or should he take a stand and risk great personal loss? The timeless words of his grandfather echoed in his heart and Hussain knew what to do: \"The greatest stand is to speak the word of truth in the face of a tyrant.\"
Hussain, his family and his companions were alone with no support. Yet Hussain was a man of principles -- he would never give up his mission and bow to tyranny. Yazid ordered an army of over 30,000 to block Hussain from moving any further east. Hussain\'s caravan was forced to stop in the middle of the scorching desert of Karbala, Iraq. The end was drawing close.
The next day, under the blazing sun and searing heat, Yazid\'s battle drums were sounded and orders were given to the army to attack and kill Hussain at any cost. Hussain\'s army of approximately 72 or 100 men stood in front of an army of 30,000; the odds were impossible. One by one, Hussain\'s men, family and children sacrificed themselves, until he stood alone on the desert plains...That night, Hussain assembled his companions and pleaded with them to leave him and save themselves. They refused to leave their leader, declaring that they would prefer to stay and die with him on the path of truth and justice. They took comfort in defending a noble cause.
Wounded, fatigued and without support, Hussain issued a rallying cry that shook the fabric of society; a cry that implored future generations and one which still echoes in the hearts of the oppressed and those seeking justice until today: \"Is there anybody to help us?\"
Shortly afterwards, the heartless enemy army encircled Hussain and he was ruthlessly killed and beheaded. It was the tenth day of the first month of the Islamic New Year, the 10th of Muharram 680 AD, Ashura day.

Complete Sermon of Prophet Muhammad SAWW at Ghadeer Khum by Agha Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi - English
The Ghadir event and its significance
Seventy days before his demise, when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HF) 1 was returning to Medina after his last pilgrimage to Mecca, he reached the pond of Khum
(Ghadir Khum) near Juhfa. It was the 18th of the month of Dhul-Hijja of the year 10 AH (March 15, 632 AD). By this time, the Prophet (PBUH&HF) had conveyed
all of the divine commandments to his nation except for the formal and explicit public announcement of his divinely appointed successors as the leaders,
guardians, and guides for the believers for all days to come.
By the order of Allah, the Prophet (PBUH&HF) stopped at the pond of Khum, gathered the crowd of pilgrims, and delivered his last universal speech. In this
sermon, he presented his last religious instruction which finalized the last divine religion and made Islam the perfect religion in the sight of Allah. Imam
Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH), the fifth Imam and successor of the Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: “The last obligatory duty that Allah sent down was al-Walaya(adherence
to the guardian assigned by Allah). Then, He sent down the verse: ‘Today, I completed your religion…’1 once the Messenger of Allah established it in Juhfa
area.”
This message was the most unique in the entire mission of the Prophet (PBUH&HF) due to the revelation of Verse 67, Chapter 5 of the Holy Quran before his
speech. In this revelation, Allah warned His Messenger that failing to deliver this last message would nullify his entire mission. This unprecedented warning
proves that this last message contained the most important religious commandment of Allah for the Muslim nation.
Moreover, the contents of this last message were so crucial to the faith that the Prophet (PBUH&HF) emphatically required all those who directly or
indirectly heard the sermon of Ghadir Khum to convey it to people who were not aware of its details, and parents to convey it to their children for all
generations to come. Hence, this sermon addresses all Muslim generations of the world until the Day of Judgement. This emphasis naturally implies that
the content of this message has a vital role in the future of the Muslims, their spiritual health, and their felicity in the Hereafter.
The main issue that the Prophet (PBUH&HF) addressed in his speech in Ghadir Khum was that Allah appointed Ali Ibn Abi Talib (PBUH) as the guardian (Wali),
the master (Mawla), the leader (Imam), and the commander (Amir) of all believing men and women, the deputy and the executor of his affairs (Wasi), and his
successor (Khalifa). His sayings and commands should be preferred over the opinions of all others in every matter. Obeying him is obeying Allah, and
disobeying him is disobeying Allah. Whoever follows him (and his sayings) is a believer under the guardianship of Allah, and whoever turns away from him (or
his sayings) is a disbeliever under the guardianship of Satan.
Guardianship (al-Walaya) expresses a bilateral relation between the guardian and the people. Observing al-Walaya by people means adhering to the guardian and
acknowledging his authority by heart, tongue, and action. On the other hand, the action of al-Walaya by the guardian means offering protection from evil,
spiritual assistance, care, support, and guidance for his adherents. A divinely appointed guardian guards his adherents from misguidance, spiritual
destruction, wrongdoing, and sin as much as they adhere to him and his commands. Establishing al-Walaya has been the ultimate goal of religion and the fruit
of the entire efforts of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HF) during his mission.
One who submits to Allah’s representative and adheres to him has indeed acknowledged Allah’s authority and guardianship and is a true monotheist in obeying
Allah. Acknowledging the guardianship of the leaders that Allah appointed and submitting to them is the greatest pillar of faith. It safeguards the followers
from the wrath and punishment of Allah. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH) said: “Islam is established by five things: prayer, charity, fasting, pilgrimage, and
al-Walaya (adhering to the guardians authorized by Allah). None (among them) was called for as (emphatically as) al-Walaya was called for. However, people
accepted the first four and abandoned al-Walaya.
People who refused to submit to the leaders that Allah appointed resemble the Satan who refused to submit to the viceregent of Allah, Adam (PBUH), and
consequently, became an outcast and went under the curse of Allah forever as mentioned in the Holy Quran.1 It is narrated that Imam al-Ridha (PBUH) said:
“The similitude of the believers in accepting the guardianship of the Commander of the Believers (Ali) on the day of Ghadir Khum is that of the angels in
prostrating before Adam (i.e., submitting to him), and the similitude of those who turned away from the guardianship of the Commander of the Believers on the
day of Ghadir is that of the devil (Iblis).
In one of his speeches on the anniversary of the day of Ghadir, Imam Ali (PBUH) said: “Allah does not accept the faith (of an individual) except after he
acknowledges the guardianship of whom He required. He does not arrange the means of His obedience (for an individual) except after he adheres to His ropes
and the ropes of His authorized people. Thus, Allah sent down to His Prophet (PBUH&HF) on the day of the large trees1 that which explained His will for His
sincere and chosen servants. Allah commanded him to convey (the message) without being concerned about the hypocrites or the deviants, and guaranteed him
protection against their evil... By that, Allah completed His religion, and delighted the eyes of His Prophet (PBUH&HF), and the believers. Some of you
witnessed this event and some received its news. This (appointment) concluded the beautiful word of Allah for those who observe patience… ”

During the last ten days of the lunar month of Safar, millions of Shia Muslims travel o the holy city of Mashhad in the north east of Iran. In these days, the mourners hold magnificent ceremonies for the departure anniversary of Prophet Mohammad and the martyrdom anniversary of the second Imam of the Shias, Imam Hassan Mujtaba peace be upon them. But the mourning ceremonies reach their peaks on the last day of the lunar month. Iranian Shia Muslims love all their Imams, but they have a special devotion to Imam Reza.
On Thursday, the cold weather didn\\\\\\\'t prevent the lovers to go to Mashhad for offering their sincerity. An estimated three million of pilgrims were in his holy shrine to condole these tragic days to the holy presence of Imam Reza. Different ceremonies were held such as chest beating. But those who could not travel to Mashhad, gathered at local mosques and other religious centers in their own cities in commemoration of the event. In Tehran, Imam zadeh Saleh\\\\\\\'s shrine were full of mourners on a snowy day. People from across the capital went to north of Tehran to attend the ceremony. The eighth Imam of Shia Islam, Imam Reza was martyred after being poisoned by the Abbasid Caliph Ma\\\\\\\'mun in the year 818 AD and his holy body was buried in an area, today, known as Mashhad-o-Reza dubbed the place where Reza was martyred.

[07 July 2012] Iran Cultural and Historical Heritage - English
On the 30th of June 2012 The World Heritage Committee added two of Iran's ancient structures to its World Heritage List. One is the Masjed-e- Jame' or Friday Mosque of Isfahan, It was described as "a stunning illustration of mosque-architecture-evolution over 12 centuries, and the oldest preserved edifice of its type in Iran and a prototype for later mosque designs throughout Central Asia. And the other was Gonbad-e Qabus, a tomb built in 1006 AD; the only remaining evidence of the ancient city of Jorjan on the Gorgan River in northeast Iran.
UNESCO has described this ancient structure as "an outstanding and technologically innovative example of Islamic architecture that influenced sacral building in Iran, Anatolia and Central Asia. So far 15 of Iran's ancient sites, 8 of its intangible cultural heritage, and 25 of its literary and scientific figures, have been listed by UNESCO. In this edition of the show we will be talking about Iran's contributions to the list and more.

Lebanon\'s former Prime Minister Sa\'ad Hariri says he\'s ready to form a government and share power with the resistance group Hezbollah after months of a political deadlock.
Hariri\'s announcement comes as his Future Party supports opponents of the Syrian president, while Hezbollah backs supporters of President Bashar al-Assad. Hariri says despite the disagreements over Syria, Lebanon needs stability and he\'s optimistic about its future. Lebanon has been without a functioning government since Prime Minister Najib Mikati resigned last March. A caretaker cabinet has been running the country since. Fears over Syria-related violence have added to the pressure on politicians to find a compromise.

[22 June 2012] Water occupation - Remember Palestine - English
On December 13, 2011, the French National Assembly issued a 320-page report entitled, The Geopolitics of Water, which dedicated 20 pages to an alleged water war between Israelis and Palestinians. Employing the incendiary term apartheid, the report's lead author, Jean Glavany, accused Israel of usurping Palestinian water sources and showing favoritism to 450,000 settlers who purportedly use more water than 2.3 million Palestinians in the West Bank. This year the UN also reported from the 530 springs they surveyed in the West Bank 30, mostly in areas where Israel retains military control, were taken over by the settlers.
It added that Palestinians currently had limited access to 26 other springs where settlers had moved in and threatened to take control. This month, local security forces in Jenin said that the bulldozers destroyed the well near Beit ad village, north of Jenin. The well belonged to a Palestinian resident of Tubas and provided water for tens of acres in Beit Qad plain. Sources added that a handful of military machinery, supported by two bulldozers were in the area during the destruction of the well. The governor of Jenin, Talal Dweikat, denounced the destruction of the well which he described as designed to fight the rights of Palestinians. Dweikat also said that this issue has come to shape an important worry for all districts in Palestine, especially Jenin which has been suffering continuously from similar attacks.

Historical events are at times extremely influential in transforming human thought, politics and the structure of society. One of such historical events in Islam was Qadir event which happened in 632 AD.
Shortly before his death prophet Muhammad undertook a farewell pilgrimage. It has been recorded by numerous historians that on their return journey, he commanded all the Muslims to gather so that he may recite for them a crucial sermon. Then the prophet declared Imam Ali\'s guardianship as his own. He said: Whoever I am the master of; this Ali is the master of.
Although Imam Ali, peace be upon him, is the first Imam for Shia Muslims, the Qadir event is indeed a factor for unity among Shia and Sunni Muslims. On such occasion, an international congress has been held in Iran to study more about Qadir.
Dozens of scholars from Iran and other countries attended the congress presenting articles on different aspects of Qadir event.
Unlike a false belief which considers Qadir as the origin of disunity between Shias and Sunnis, Qadir promotes unity among Muslims.
Religious experts say once Qadir is explained to all, Muslim unity will be achieved because Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) recommended Muslims on Qadir day to obey both Qur\'an and his holy household.
